EOS Bodies / Re: Official: Canon EOS 7D Mark II
« on: September 15, 2014, 04:36:45 PM »
Greetings,,,  Sorry if I have missed this in this long thread, but has there been any mention of a time frame for availablity?  I see Adorama and B&H offering pre-orders, just wondering how much longer we will hae to wait?

Stated arrival is November 17th

Now Amazon says Nov 28.  IT had said the 17th  Maybe it changed or maybe they have had enough pre-orders to push it to a later date based on delivery schedule.

When was the last time that we had two sensors having the exact same MP resolution but were "different " ?
I'm afraid it looks like the 7D II will have the 70D sensor . The 70D sensor is pretty good though, its just that we are expecting two sensor revolutions in two years ..which is incredibly rare.

Agreed. I know everyone (including me) hopes that the 7DX will have some jaw-dropping sensor tech, but the 7D and 60D shared the same 18MP sensor. The differentiation that justified the price difference was AF system, FPS, buffer depth, weather sealing and build quality.

Why should we expect the next generation of each camera to have a different relationship to one another? It would be unusual for Canon to make a "successor" to the 7D that was positioned differently in the market. Not saying it can't happen -- just saying it seems most likely that the positioning of the two products in relation to one another continues.

The 7DX uses the same sensor as the 70D and continues the differentiation with beefy AF system, FPS, buffer depth and even more solid build. Seems predictable to me. Of course, it's the predictability that gets so many shorts in a twist on this forum...  :-X

Your logic might be correct just maybe the relationship is wrong.  What is to say the 7DII will not have the same sensor as the 80D

Question for the OP

Was this quoted as a rider to your home owners / renter policy or as a stand alone policy?  Not sure how much but that will have a pretty good impact on rates

Only a little.  The 7DII sensor is quite good, I'm rarely limited by low-ISO DR, and Canon could potentially use the same sensor and still improve IQ by improving off-sensor electronics and/or using some tricks associated with the dual pixel architecture of that sensor.

So if you have the 7DII sensor in hand you better spill some info on this thing!   ;)

Pretty sure I saw it.  It was disguised so no one would suspect....  NIKON

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Deal: Canon Pixma Pro-100 $34 at Adorama
« on: June 29, 2014, 08:28:10 AM »
I got a second one last year $79 after the $300 rebate and free 13x19 paper.  I mainly got it for the ink as I already have a Pro-100 that I am using.  I might get another (3rd) Pro-100 for again, just the ink and paper.  What to do with the two spare machines?

It does print very well and the glossy on the Pro Platinum paper is the best I have ever seen.  I was lucky to pick up a 8 free packs of Pro Platinum 8.5x11 size when purchasing one pack direct from Canon last year too.  Not sure why they had the fire sale on the paper.  But I have more paper than ink at this point. :-)

Jason S.

They'll give printers away to sell ink.

Can't remember the last time (or ever) they sold large format printers for super low prices.  I'd say that your argument is invalid.

The fact that they've not done it before with this format printer hardly makes the observation invalid. Printer companies have frequently given printers away counting on future ink sales where margins are huge.

Anyway, I just ordered one through B&H, essentially the same deal. The $300 rebate is not precisely "cash back." You get a $300 valued American Express card to use -- apparently no way to get cash per se.

The B&H guy told me best results have been reported with the Pro Platinum paper.

Under whats included on Adorama and B&H, it says "Introductory Ink Cartridges" and on Amazon is says "Setup Ink Tanks", so are you getting your monies worth for these cartridges?

Can't speak specifically to this or Canon but on every other ink type printer I have ever been around new the ones that are supplied in the box are a long ways from the same capacity of the replacement cartridges.

Maybe it is just me or just wishful thinking but I read this as a sign that the CC is not being adapted and accepted as well as they would like .

What is the best "guess" on cards.  CF  ..  SD  ..  or both?

... I don't think these documents should be released, its a dangerous game and I don't think CR has the money or the power to fight a big corporation like Canon ... but be my guest and prove me wrong.
I'm with you - it is a risky endeavour to release NDA'd or internal documents.

Technically there should be a legal issue only for the person that sends/steals them. If you have no agreement with Canon, you're not a Canon employee, etc.. There should be no obligation for you to keep them secret. Unless Canon publicly disclaims their genuineness and sues you for diffamation.

Just because you are technically in the right doesn't mean that it will not take a lot of time and resourses to defend your postion.

Be carefull what you call desing flaws.  Maybe they are more along the line of improvment opertunities.  ANY product that is made can be improved upon.  Not seeing the documents it is hard to say how the issues are referanced but it would be easy to have a list of opertunities be looked at as flaws from the outside.  The site will do what it needs to do with this info but if it released without a 100% uderstanding of what it means the site will loose.     The companies I have worked for all have had internal documents on issues and opertunities to work on to make improvments and if they were out for public consumption it would not be good PR.  It is part of the process for inovation and improvement.

So, anyone have an answer to this?

If I subscribe to CC and have LR4. but have not had Photoshop can I use the CC Photoshop with my LR4 for a while without using LR5?  This would be some insurance that my catalog would not be transformed to LR5 so that I could not go back if I chose to stop the subscription.

Am I the only one that clicked on the Subject line on the front page thinking this was going to be about an old Canon F1 35mm camera?      ;D

On thing I beleive that makes Facebook different than many other social media outlets is the demographics.  It is not the 20 and 30 yr olds where the user base ends.  There are many users on the site that use it often and use it well and they are in their retierment years.
