I got a 1Dx, a WFT-E6 and an ST-E3-RT from the Camera Store in Calgary today.  My serial number was #36 so there aren't that many in North America that have gone out yet.

For what it is worth, I am CPS and heading to London.

Got my 1DX yesterday, my serial number is 52.  I'm CPS also.

Cheers!

My condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time. :(

I'm in Montreal, but I put a hold on one at Henry's in TO early on (I think it was February). I used my CPS number and was told it would move me up the line. I got an email in June asking me to confirm my postal code, but they did not have an expected date. I haven't heard anything since. Canon did want to know if I was going to the Olympics. I am not. I figure it was for on site support.

To be honest, I bought the 5D Mark III  at the beginning of May when the 1DX was being delayed again and again. I'm considering not nabbing the 1DX and going with a second 5D MIII instead. I am actually nervous about that phone call now: "Sir, your 1DX is ready to ship. Shall we charge your card?" "Ummmmmmm...."

Anybody have news on the expected Canadian CPS pricing? 6500$ still?

CPS price is $5900cdn, got that price from camera store in Calgary after they verified my CPS membership. 2 1dx arrived in Edmonton,  and it's true that CPS gets priority. Camera store has not gotten their shipment yet as of this afternoon.  Vistek is still quoting CPS pricing at 6300.

I'm number 6 on the camera store list. We'll see how many they get in.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Cheers!

Got got my notice from The Camera Store in Calgary, they shipped my 1dx on Friday afternoon, should be in my hands on Tuesday.

Cheers

None.  Rebels, sure.  1-series bodies cartainly aren't going to be common holiday gifts, Canon and retailers know this, the price will stay where it is.

Agree

EOS Bodies / Re: Any actual photographers out there?

Love this site and the various topics that seem to get people hot under the collar. But am amazed at the rather low level of knowledge out there on the subject of photography and the poor quality of work being showcased in these forums. Is it just me or do others agree?

I love to learn.  Teach away amigo and lets see some of your pics. :)

Cheers!

Hi All,

I'll 'unofficially' assist in shooting a wedding for a friend.  They will have a paid-hired pro shooter at the wedding (from 1pm to end of reception, likely 11pm).   However, the pro will not be there from 8:30am  to 1:00
pm, so I will shoot, probably solo during this time (make ups, dress, getting ready period).  I've done this once before a couple years back with a Rebel & CF lens.  Currently I shoot w/a 5D Mark II and have 2 lenses: 24-105L & 50 f/1.8 II (just upgrade to the Mark II w/24-105 as kits lens 3 months ago).

My question is, SHOULD I RENT A LENS?  If so, WHICH LENS should I rent?

Your input is much appreciated.  Thanks!

Since you are not the primary shooter, what you have should be good.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III vs D800/E, is the 5D3 better at anything?
« on: July 02, 2012, 11:48:59 AM »
It recently occured to me after Nikon announced that with a grip the D800 shoots 6 FPS that I can't find a single advantage to the 5D3 over the D800. Here's what I know so far:

5D3 vs D800/E by catagory:

Dynamic Range: Inferior
Color Fidelity: Inferior
Noise: Equal
FPS: Equal (with a grip)
Video: Inferior
Autofocus: Equal (both are pro level)/Inferior (no f/8.0)/Superior (better with fast lenses due to special f/2.8 sensors)
White Balance: Inferior
Auto Exposure: Inferior
In Camera Lens Correction: Inferior
Pop up Flash: Inferior
Price: Inferior
Resolution: Inferior
AA filter: Inferior

I realize that the 5D3 has a better menu system, so that's one thing it can possibly do better.

Also please don't smite me. I'm not trying to bash the 5D3, as I'm actually a Canon fan and will be getting the 5D3, but can anyone think of one major feature that the 5D3 does better than the D800? If so feel free to post, I'm just trying to get informed here.

Thanks. :)

I think the better question is:

"Can the photog with the 5dmk3 do anything better than the photog with the D800?"

At the end of the day the client does not care about the gear, just the quality of the shots. In the end its really a poor craftsman who blames his tools.

Cheers!

EOS Bodies / Re: So, still no news of 1DX hitting stores in USA?
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:45:40 PM »
I am from Germany and ordered mine in December 27th at an authorized canon store. I was told that CPS members will be first in line. And they were also informed that some 1Dx's hit stores in UK, so maybe the first ones are coming next week (or within the first weeks in july).
I keep you updated when mine arrived ;)

Same here in Canada, CPS members will get theirs first (at least according to my pro dealer and from talking to CPS canada) even if there are non CPS members that preordered before them. Hopefully some should arrive next week or mid July.

Can't wait for mine!

Cheers!

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 1dx Got it! Got it! Got it!
« on: June 25, 2012, 03:32:08 PM »
Just confirming I got my canon 1 dx about an hour ago from calumet Manchester apparently they got 9 bodies in and mine was the first to be collected!! I have just got it home it is absolutely amazing I can't take the smile off my face! The battery only had a small amount of charge in it I have just put my 85mm 1.2L lens on left it in program mode and took some quick shots of my wife painting the house inside!! I think it will be a while before I venture out of "P" mode it's that good!!! Put it in al servo mode just to see how fast it was, it was like a machine gun with every picture pin sharp and exactly the same exposure!!! The camera truly is amazing if yours is on order you are going to love it!!!

Congrats!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS-1D X Hitting Retailers
« on: June 21, 2012, 07:55:56 PM »
neuro, based on the few reviews you've seen, the spec sheet, etc, do you think the 1D X is really worth the extra money over the 5D3?  I'm just looking for your straight-up opinions on this, since I know you skipped the 5D3 in favor of the 1D X.  :)

For me, yes.  The weather sealing and built-in grip are important to me, as is the frame rate, and I'm hoping for a bit better high-ISO performance.  I think the face-tracking in the phase AF will be useful, too.  I do tend to treat my cameras as tools not showpieces, and the 1-series build will hold up better to that treatment.

But it comes down to 'value', and there are two parts to that - what are the features worth, and can you afford it?  Photography is a hobby for me...in that sense, I don't need a 1D X.  But I want one, and I can afford one, so I'm getting one.   ;D

+1 (and for pretty much exactly the same reasons)  :)

+1 here too :) (and for the exact same reasons)

Cheers!
