How much of an improvement will I get? A quantified statement with specifics would be useful.

no regrets here

I own lots of lenses, but just recently got the 70-200mm f2.8 IS II USM.  It seems sharper than my primes, even at f2.8!

BIG fan of that one...

i got to agree with you on this.

Agreed.
The 24-70 F/2.8 II and the 70-200 F/2.8 II are the only L glass I use on my 5D MK3 now.
I sold all my primes when I got the 24-70, it's that good :)

Lighting / Re: Elinchrom Ranger Quadra
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:27:47 PM »
i have one pack with two heads and plan to add another.  i love this thing... i have the 1100 ws ranger as well but the Quadra is my pick people photography.  i have been replacing electric monos with battery units for energy conservation as well.  commercial electricity isn't cheap and a number of power packs recycling at the same time makes the electric meter spin.  remember that Elinchrom umbrella shafts are 7mm and the generics are't going to fit.  i have a Lastolite 24 soft box and a Elinchrom 33" translucent umbrella that do a super job with the Quadra.

How about Crumpler? I've got one that would do what you need, it's nice. I forget what size, but they make many sizes.

I use the "7 Million Dollar Home", but that would not be big enough for 2 x bodies with long lenses attached. However, perhaps the "8 Million Dollar Home" would be (weird names I know, but are strong bags, that are water resistant, have optional velcro fasteners or clip, or both, plus they have nice padded interiors that are infinitely customizable)

the Canon 70-200 L IS II is the digital equivalent to a can of "Whoop Ass".
