Yeah, send it back..
That's what my Sigma was before I took it and the body in to Sigma :)

I like my Sigma on the 5D III.
It had a focus problem, and had a MAF of -19 out of the box...
I took it and my canon to the Sigma repair center (here in Canada), and had it back that afternoon with a firmware update and the problem fixed...

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 24-70mm II in Canada??

I just got mine in Calgary - preordered back in June...

Lenses / Re: Anyone heard when BH, Adorama or Amazon will ship 24-70 II?

BH has already shipped the first order to people who preordered in February.
I ordered mine in mid April, but it hasn't shipped yet...

Canon General / Re: Canada - USA cross border warranty service
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:49:30 PM »
When it was under warranty, I tried phoning Canon Canada to get my powershot repaired.
I was told in no uncertain terms that because it was a US camera, it could only be served by Canon US...
Canon US told me that it had to be shipped from a US address and back to a US address.
This was a few years ago...

Of course, once it was out of warranty, I shipped it to Canon Canada without a receipt, and they repaired it via goodwill....

Canon US and Canon Canada are different profit centers and different legal entities.. If Canon Canada fixes your US camera, it costs them money they wouldn't normally need to spend. That being said, sometimes you can get lucky - and worse case scenario, you can use a forwarding service to get your camera fixed - since you're saving a couple hundred buying it...

Lenses / Re: *UPDATE* Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II Pushed Back to October?
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:28:09 AM »
If I am traveling I want IS because I will not allocate enough time to make sure the picture comes out perfect and I am not likely to be at my steadiest since I am trying to pack as much fun into the trip as possible.

I too find it difficult to compose a steady shot when I'm bouncing up and down with excitement!
I really wish this lens had IS, but I'm buying it anyways... The added weight is inconsequential for me compared to capturing the memories...

kinda happy about this news, cause I was worried that this lens wouldn't ship before I went to Hawaii.  Seeing that it slipped, means I made the right decision to pick up the 24-105L instead for the time being...

Still want this lens though...

Hah, I did the exact same thing..
Was going to Hawaii.. had a preorder for the 24-70 II...
Ended up picking up a 24-105L for the trip anyways....

Just sold it though thinking September would be the ship date...

Lenses / Re: 50mm lens. I Need advice!!
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:32:20 PM »

Is this a common issue with the Sigma 50mm 1.4? I have one on my 5D3 on +20 and I reckon still needs +2 more to be acceptable.

Yup - very common... They told me they did a 'firmware upgrade' to fix it...

On a crop-sensor body like the 7D you'd be better off getting the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 USM for 2 reasons:

I agree. Crop sensor + 50mm is just too much.. A 28mm or a 35mm would be a much better choice.

That being said, on a fully frame, I have the Sigma 1.4 50mm for my 5DIII, and I quite like it.
Standard 77mm filter size I can share with my 70-200 II and my 24-105.
It needed MFA of 19 before I sent it and my 5d III to Sigma. Got it back and it needed MFA of 7.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark 3 - Please help!

Gotta say, I feel the same... Your 5D II pics do look a little better...

I upgraded from a T2i to the 5D III, and thought my 5D III jpg's looked soft.
My raws, once 'finessed' and then converted to jpg look gorgeous though... I wonder if there's some simple setting we're missing...

$500 bucks to repair? Just pay the $350 more and buy new..... Then you won't have to worry about temporary fixes, etc.
Water = bad news for electronics and gears...

You can get 'em off ebay for $800. Personally, I'm gonna sell 2 month old one for around $800 when the new 24-70 II comes out...
(I only had to buy it, because I sold my kit lens back in May in preparation for the 24-70 II I wanted for vacation, but then it was delayed :()

Yup... I sold my 24-105 for this and am patiently waiting..
Decided to get the 5d III + the 24+70 II and 70-200II for a big trip I'm taking in august. Thought I'd be safe...

I'm also waiting for the 5D III SDK to be released for some software I use..... It was supposed to be out in June.

Wow - I wish I hadn't sold my kit 24-105mm now.... I sold it the day I got my 5D III - thinking that the 24-70 II would be out soon... All I have is my 50mm and my 70-200mm II now...

My local camera shop expects to see the 24-70 mk2 any day, but in kits with bodies that they will then split.

Interesting.. I have a preorder set up, but if white boxes end up available, I'd definitely prefer one!
