EOS Bodies / Re: More Coverage of the Canon EOS M

No swivel screen is the biggest let-down. Otherwise it's probably a great little video camera
That's the deal breaker on this camera for me.

I like the G1X but I want wider and more telephoto capability than that camera has.

Give me the mirrorless with a 3" swivel screen and optional EF-M 10-22 and EF-M 55-200 lenses, then I think I might be a buyer.

Spoke with B&H today.  I was told Late July, "hopefully."

I am just about ready to jump ship and find myself a nice used 7D, skip the whole "entry level" DSLR phase and jump straight to the crop format flagship, then call it a day.

I think I may wait until the 70D comes out this fall. The 70D is rumored to become the flagship crop camera and the 7DII will go to full-frame. The 70D most likely wont have dual processors but with a Digic 5+, it will probably out perform the 7D anyway.

It does depend how many of the features that the 70D I will really like so I still could end up getting the T4i. But, like I said, I'm not in a hurry since I've decided to give up the idea on buying a new camera before my vacation.

Edit:
I just saw the latest rumor that says the 7DII will be an APC-H and not full-frame.

I just called Norman Camera and the guy said the last they've heard it was going to be mid to late July before they will get the T4i / 18-135 STM kit in stock.

Well, I did get my money back from Beach Camera. Glad that didn't turn out to be a problem.

So again, I leave on vacation July 9th. It's not looking good at this point to get the T4i / 18-135 STM kit in time. If I can't get it before this weekend, I'm going to just forget about a new camera before the trip.  There's really not enough time to get to know the camera anyway and definitely not enough time if I got it next week. My original Rebel 300D might be old and have some relative limitations, but I know it well and still get great photos with it.

So since this is the reality, I may even wait until the 70D comes out (most likely September) and see what it's going to offer. The T4i / 18-135 STM will have many reviews by that time too.

That makes all three of us here with the same issue.
Even if we get them, there's not much time to get to know our cameras.

Ooh, I think I would have held off in selling a T3i just a little longer!
Myself, I am upgrading from an original Digital Rebel 300D.

Wow,  I wish I put that much though in it.   Unfortunately,  it's nothing more than I have purchased from them before.
I guess I would ask you the same question though,  should I of not ordered that way?
I don't have much experience ordering camera supplies online.   I always order pc parts.
I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that you were in a hurry to get your's delivered.  I am because of my upcoming vacation. This is the first time I've been in this much of a hurry on a newly released camera.

To answer your question, I don't know.  I would guess Tigerdirect is as reliable as Amazon is.  Amazon allows their third party suppliers to be rated by the customers.  I would also guess those with low ratings would be dropped by them.

Why did you choose Tigerdirect? Did you think it gives you a chance of getting it quicker by going with a third-party supplier than just waiting for a single supplier to get them in stock? Do you think Tigerdirect is better third-party supplier than Amazon?  I thought about putting in a pre-order on Amazon while keeping and eye on the individual online camera stores. It's easy to cancel on Amazon.

Anyhow, I would be pretty happy this point if I could get one shipped on the 25th.

Update:

Josh at Beach was able to stop the shipment and has assured me of a full refund. Just have to keep checking my credit card info now (I can do that on the web) and make sure that happens.

So, the hunt continues for the first available T4i / 18-135 STM kit.  My Hawaii vacation starts July 9th and there are only 11 business days left between now and then.

Well, I'm very disgusted with Beach Camera and I'm sure there will be a few out there along with me when they get their kit in with the wrong lens.

I just got a shipping notice from Beach after calling this morning and telling them to put my order on hold.

So, I immediately called Beach and talked to Josh again. He apologized but can't stop my order.  He's put a stop and return order in with Fedex but I paid for overnight so I may get it anyway.  A signature is required so I can refuse it.
Of course now I have to wait to get my credit card refunded until they get it back. And, then I might have to argue to get my overnight shipping charges back I don't know.

I've purchased many things from Beach Camera and this is the first problem I've had with them. This is a BIG screw up. They still have a lot of gall to presently be selling the T4i with the non-STM lens for the same price as it is for the STM version that pretty much everyone will be buying in a couple of weeks.

The salesman (Ari) at Adorama did tell me to call back this afternoon to get an update.

Well, I just got off the phone with Ari. He said that they did receive some updated information and the T4i / 18-135 STM is scheduled to arrive in the store on 6/30. Not what I hoped to hear.

I just called a salesman at Adorama.
They definitely do not have them right now and don't know anything for sure about when or how many.

I also called Beach Camera today. They are expecting a shipment of cameras today or tomorrow and there may be 18-135 STM lenses in that shipment but wont know for sure until they are in.

However, Beach changed their website and they now say the T4i / 18-135 kit is a NON STM lens.

I'm wanting the kit ASAP because I'm leaving for a Hawaii vacation on July 9th.

Update:

BuyDig / Beach Camera has now changed their website and specifies that their T4i / 18-135 lens kit is a NON STM.

I called the salesman (Josh). He said the camera kits are still not in yet and still expects them to be in by this afternoon or maybe tomorrow and that there is still a possibility that they could be the STM versions. I told him to put my order on hold but to call me as soon as he's opened the box and knows for sure.

13
My salesman's name is Josh. Did you get him too?

Yes it does seem strange. I have a feeling that when he does open the box, it will be the STM lens. At least I hope so.

If it is the standard 18-135 they've got a real problem with a misleading advertisement. The pictures clearly show STM on the lens and if you click on "What's in the box" it says 18-135 STM.

I guess we shall see tomorrow.

14
Oh, one more thing.
bestpricephoto.com says the T4i / 18-135 STM is in stock also. I called to verify and the salesperson said yes, they are in stock and ready to ship.

I just don't know if that is a reliable place to buy from though. So, I'll see how it plays out with Beach Camera first.

Update:

The salesman at Buydig (Beach) called me back. He talked to his Canon rep. and thinks the lens might be the standard one instead of the STM but still not totally sure.

He then said the cameras don't actually arrive in the store until tomorrow. When they get in, he is going to open the box and verify for sure which lens it is and then call me.

So, I will update here again with the latest info tomorrow after I get that call.
