Canon General / Re: Miami trip

Ok, let's all settle down here. I've always thought that this is one of the few forums on the internet not full of raging people attempting to get the last word, and let's keep it that way.

Software & Accessories / Re: Lightroom Vs Elements
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:49:43 PM »
I use both Lightroom and Elements, and I think that each has it's own specific purpose. Lightroom is an amazing organizer, and makes it really easy and straightforward to access the photos I need when I need them. I do the vast majority of my editing in Lightroom, because I usually only make global adjustments. However, when the occasion arises, I need to jump to Elements when I need to edid very small parts of an image, or when I need to use multiple layers. I use it for more of the local adjustments. The both softwares nicely compement eachother, and I don't think that one replaces the other.

Software & Accessories / Software for star trails/time-lapse?
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:33:45 PM »
I'm going on a vacation later this summer to Yellowstone and Teton NPs and surrounding area. I've never done star trail or time-lapse photography, and I figured that this vacation would be a good opportunity to do so. I have all the equipment I need except for the software to actually put together the time-lapse video and the final star trail composite image. I have Photoshop Elements 9, but as far as I'm aware It's not possible to do these things within that software. Do you guys have any recommendations for inexpensive (but decent) software I could use? Thanks!

Reviews / G1X vs RX100?
« on: June 08, 2013, 09:46:42 PM »
Hey everyone. I'm looking to buy a backup camera that's not a DSLR but has decent image quality. I think I've narrowed it town to the Canon G1X and the Sony RX100. Size isn't a huge concern, but I was wondering which I should choose. Thoughts?

Lenses / Re: What is the next Canon lens you want or covet and why...

I'd love a 300. The only one I could remotely afford is the 300 F/4L IS USM, but it sure would be nice to have one! Maybe after a 70D....

The first image was made at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, and the second in a sunflower field near my house.

But...but...you wanted fast AF?!?

I know that he's using a 6D, but for people like me using a T3........ I bet that the M's AF is pretty decent. I'm pretty sure It wasn't aimed at people like you using a 1DX. But I hope they produce something like that to beef up their mirrorless line!

Excellent. Now I can have an inexpensive backup camera that produces good results, instead of using my crappy old Powershot A590 IS...... Looks like canon is doing something right for once. I hope they'll keep up the good work with the 70D.
