but it doesn’t really plug any holes in the maker’s range.

Man, what do those guys think...

The Canon EF-S 10-18 f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a 300€/$ lens that allows beginners and people with a normal budget to get into UWA.
I believe this is a really clever addition in Canons lineup meant for those double zoom kit buyers to at least buy a third lens and then get hooked. And it is small and light. And it will sell well.

I actually think this lens is really awesome. It's super light, cheap, and it's image quality is great!
Where it also has value is for people that don't really shoot this wide. Like me. I shoot FF and crop, but had no desire to drop a ton of cash on a lens that I'd rarely use. This lens fills that hole too.

The differences are "neg•li•gi•ble".
Everything else is just noise and a lot of geeking out.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: EOS6D or 7DMKII ?

This reminds me of the 5DII vs 7D debate from years ago.

You either get a camera with great image quality (6D), and not much else; or a top of the line camera with all the features (7DII)... Minus the top sensor.

Back then you had to buy both if you wanted the best of both worlds. Now you can just buy the 5DIII!

Smart Canon marketing.

Wow! That actually looks really cool though!

The 7D2 is going to sell very well. No thanks to the many threads on CR that have been bashing this camera (pre-release). Chill people, if it isn't for you move on! Any Canon product success is good for the brand's future. If you hate Canon and "their lack of innovation" there actually are other companies that make and sell cameras.

This just reminds me of a great scene from Mad Men:

Don Draper: This is the greatest advertisting opportunity since the invention of cereal. We have six identical companies making six identical products. We can say anything we want. How do you make your cigarettes?

Lee Garner, Jr.: I don't know.

Lee Garner, Sr.: Shame on you. We breed insect repellant tobacco seeds, plant them in the North Carolina sunshine, grow it, cut it, cure it, toast it...

Don Draper: There you go. There you go.

[Writes on chalkboard and underlines: "IT'S TOASTED."]

Lee Garner, Jr.: But everybody's else's tobacco is toasted.

Don Draper: No. Everybody else's tobacco is poisonous. Lucky Strikes'... is toasted.

Roger: Well, gentlemen, I don't think I have to tell you what you just witnessed here.

Lee Garner, Jr.: I think you do.

Don Draper: Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear. It's a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you're doing is OK. You are OK.

Lee Garner, Sr.: It's toasted.

[Smiles]

Lee Garner, Sr.: I get it.

Canon. See Impossible.

I actually get Lynda.com for free by having a public library card. I live in the US. If you have a good local library check their website to see if there is a portal link. I just type in my last name and library card number!

I used to have a paid subscription to Lynda, but obviously recently canceled as I get it for free. It is worth it regardless of cost.

Deke is a brilliant teacher too.

Until I can look through a Nikon viewfinder and change ISO settings with my right index while also adjusting any other setting I need, I'm sticking with Canon. All digital cameras are capable of capturing a quality image. I just like USING Canon cameras better.

I'll get the 7DII to mess around with, but will wait for it to hit the Canon Refurb site during one of their sales! It will be sweet at 1200 ;)
No reason to preorder "new" technology before all the bugs are worked out!

Looks good for an aps-c camera. I never go above iso 800 on my 7D. This looks good up to 3200!

EOS Bodies / Re: How excited are you about the new 7D II?
« on: September 16, 2014, 07:32:11 PM »
Excited. Like the 5DIII, it has improvements in every area of the CAMERA. Sensor maniacs will complain about minor IQ improvements, but I buy a camera for more than one part.
