The Japanese Yen has fallen considerably in value in recent months. Japanese exports should therefore be much cheaper now for buyers, so why are Canon prices remaining so high? I'd love a new Canon 5D mk III but current MAP limitations are keeping prices high and stopping me from buying.

Becouse this kind of segment is not "economically flexible" regarding market changes.

All you can do is try and see what happens. Can always shoot moonlit scenes or star trails instead easily enough with slower glass and lower ISOs.

In your opinion, may I acheive a good result with canon 7D too at high iso? better to shoot in RAW I think...

Might get something worthwhile at F1.4 yeah.  Not sure what ISO I'd expect to get away with.  3200 maybe.

I can't go wider than 15 f/3.5 in this moment.... (budget problems!)
Any advices?

I did this last spring with a rented 5D III and Canon 14L.  Did it last fall with a 5D II and Canon 24L.  Now just did it again with a 6D and Samyang 24(as well as the Samyang 14 and Zeiss 21). 

The 6D is simply a beast with high ISOs and the night sky.  Even more of one than the 5D III was, easily trumping it.  12,800 was not a problem at all.  Quite amazing actually.  10,000 felt like one was starting to push it for the 5D III.  The same feeling probably comes in around 20,000 ISO or so on the 6D.

The Samyang 24 F1.4 was a load better for this than the coma abusive Canon 24L II.  Plenty fine using it at F1.4 for this.  Paired on the 6D it is pretty insane what can be had. 

The Samyang 14 also a lot better for this than the Canon 14L II.

I made a second page with full size crop examples for some 6D high ISO ideas as well as the coma of the 4 lenses.  I could probably add something if something was wanted.  It's clearly not a direct comparison as I never shot with that in mind and had the gear at completely different times.  It is what it is and I'm sure enough to give some an idea what to expect that might help.  http://www.extremeinstability.com/2013-5-4b.htm

From having used them, I would say that using an extender with the 70-200 mk1 + 2.0x II wasn't very good. However, mk2 + 2.0x III 3 is phenomenal. I would highly recommend it, even over a 100-400.

Dear all of you,
anyone who use extenders with 70-200 f2.8 IS USM Mk I or Mk II?

I am evaluating to buy one of them listed but probably Mk I is out of production, right?
And, an extender delivers good image quality on this lense?

Thanks everyone for your comments so far. I have used the 7D but with the 75 - 300 f4-5.6 III usm lens. It's not a great one as its very soft. I might burrow a friends 70 - 200, although he has the f2.8 IS II USM version.
Is there a massive difference between the f2.8 non IS vs the f4 IS? If I was to have a 7D would, is one better than the other? It would be used for sport and the occasional indoor event photog?

Non IS is really a good lense but not for indoor (IMHO) and it is out of production. High iso are not for 7D.....
f2.8 IS II is the "must" and it's not cheap and really HEAVY!

Canon will be updating the 50 and maybe the 85 like they did with the 24, 28, and 35.  Unknown what the final aperture will be on the new lenses but the build quality will most definitely improve.  Now, while waiting for a current 50mm to be built for EF, why not consider getting a 40 f/2.8 STM?  Image quality is excellent and the lens is very inexpensive.

yes, I am considering it even if I don't like how it fits on the camera
I'll wait the new release and then judge my best option!

Yep. I have read some but I found them not satisfying.
Here in a forum I have the possibility to orient my questions as I want...!

Infact I have never read about "bad and good" copy of Sigma 1.4 model
