Here are some test shots handheld f2.8, 1/100 and 1/80 (2 shots), ISO 8000. I am already liking the sharpness and Bokeh. Wow :D

Thanks ALL for your valuable suggestions.

One question though. I am picking up the L series version of the lens and I thought this lens is weather sealed, please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks again

Lenses / Need filter suggestions - Ordered Canon 100mm f2.8 L macro
« on: November 13, 2012, 11:37:51 PM »
I ordered a 100mm 2.8 L lens and should be picking up from the store tomorrow. I am planning to use this lens for Macro and Portraits. I use Hood on my other lenses at all times which I plan to do with the new lens as well.

Please suggest what filters I need for Macro and portrait. I do have a Marumi CP (77mm) that I use on my other 2 lens (77mm and 67 mm with a step down/up ring).

Thanks in advance.

I have a 70-200 f4 IS USM lens and I am planning to shoot some bird shots next month (during my vacation). Is there a compatible teleconverter? Canon support person told me that he thinks only f2.8 lens are compatible with 1.4x or 2x teleconverters but does not know for sure if I can use the teleconverter with f4 and manually focus?

Please advise.
I have the 5D3, a 70-200/4 IS and a 1.4x mark II and they play together very well, including reasonably fast AF. The 2x TC's will fit as well, but you will have to focus manually. That's a firmware measure: you get yourself a Kenko 2x TC and you should be able to use AF on f/8. In that case, though, you better be prepared for very slow AF with lots of hunting ;)

Thanks for your quick response. Will there be an IQ difference between Canon and Kenko?
Sure there is, and normally you'd pick Canon over Kenko. Kenko, however, has a whole series of TC's, some pretty good, some pretty bad, most of 'em cheaper than their Canon counterparts. I picked up a 2nd hand 1.7x which is very 'not very good' (but it was cheap though!), I hear their top ones are between Canon's mark II and mark III, IQ-wise. However, I cannot speak from experience.

Thanks RC and Scrappydog

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: AFMA Callibration - How much is too much?
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:57:49 PM »
Hi, Did you use any software for Camera/Lens calibration? Is there any online tutorial or best method to calibrate. I have a 5DM3, 24-105L F4, 70-200L F4 IS USM. Any advice is appreciated

I use Reikan FoCal Pro, highly recommend it.  For my 1D X, manual mode is currently the only option, 5DIII works in semi-auto (for my 7D, and the 5DII I used to have, calibration is fully automatic).

For manual AFMA, I wrote a tutorial for TDP, based on LensAlign Pro, but with a DIY option as well.

Thanks

I would be interested to see what others have had to AFMA input into their 1DX's.

Here are mine.

16-35L II: W=4, T=7
24-105L IS: W=4, T=2
28-300L IS: W=4, T=4
70-200L IS II: W=2, T=2 (haven't done it with 1.4x/2x TCs yet)
100-400L IS: W=-1, T=1
35L: 4
40 pancake: -1
85L: 0
100L Macro IS: 3
135L: 0
