Lenses / Re: Which Lens to buy for Portraits

The 70-200 f2.8 is your best option.  But only if you upgrade to a 5D MkIII first.

Why would anyone want to use this lens at f11 or smaller?  F4 and 5.6 should be where the action is.

I'm just surprised that someone lucky and discerning enough to have a 5DMkIII hasn't noticed how the manufacturer's name is spelled on the front.

New EF lenses--- EF-M for the mirrorless line up they say they are serious about. They have 4 lenses now and several patents for more have been discovered. I would love a EF-M 35mm 1.4 & 55mm 1.4 to use with a new APS-C chipped "M" rangefinder style that competes with the Sony and  Fuji

Amen to that.  Add in a 24mm and we're fixed.  What I want is a Canonized version of the a6000/X-E2/GX-7, optimised for street/travel photographers.  I'm optimistic, because I sense that Canon does build its products around the needs of specific groups of users - press (1D-X), sports/wildlife (7DII), portrait/video (5DIII), landscape (upcoming 50mp), etc, etc.  It's a sensible approach from a marketing point of view.  Given that Canon does most things very well (build quality, colour rendition, exterior design, ergonomics, lenses, touch screens, etc., I'm still confident that I made the right decision all those years ago to go 100% with them.

Manual Mode, but autofocus, right?  Which focus settings did you use, please?

I can't see how anyone could possibly criticise these terrific pictures, but let's wait and see what the pixel-peepers say.

EOS Bodies / Re: A Real EOS M Replacement Coming Soon? [CR1]

My preference is for an APS-C version of the Panasonic GX7, same form factor (slightly larger probably) but obviously with Canon's best APS-C parts (AF, sensor, etc.).  In other words an optimised-for-street, quick reflexes, rangefinder.  Would need to have Panny's faults eliminated (lack of mic input, lukewarm video performance, etc.).

Would prefer GPS and articulated screen, but tilting screen would be OK.  A decent wi-fi/app a necessity.  Pop-up flash would be nice, but not a deal-breaker.  Hot-shoe on top of a pop-up, anyone?  M lenses are OK as a starting point.

Whatever the naysayers may say about Canon products, they do a pretty good job at these promotional videos.

I've lost track - what does the upgraded C300 now have that the new C100 doesn't?  Or vice versa?

Can't remember if it was Patrick Lichfield or not, but someone used to blow a referee's whistle just before firing the shutter.  You probably wouldn't get away with it too often with the same group.

"You can pick an A7r up for as little as $1700 used, A7s' used for as little as $2000."

Ever wondered why these owners are selling?

Is that cello full-frame or crop-sensor?

Why don't you copy your post to ThinkTank for their recommendations?

I have a Benbo.............. and a Benro!

Both are fit for purpose, and I would buy again.  Ditto for my Manfrottos!

Does this mean a Mark II might be imminent?  Why did nobody tell us?
