You cannot buy a prototype, the lens is still under development and not in production.  Everyone is waiting for a announcement and release date, but apparently some re-design was done after prototypes were used in the Olympics and some issues uncovered.

However, if you want one, plan on North of $10,000.

Mt Spokane

Once out, I'm sure it will drop after the first year plus, not a lot, but enough to wait patiently  :)

I went to the 'Focus on Imaging' exhibition at the NEC Birmingham (UK) today, while there I waited to get access to the elevated Canon stand to view their larger lens. Once up there, I checked the available lens to try on the stand, and I asked the Canon rep if there was the Canon 200-400f/4L IS to look at, he disappeared and came out with the Canon 200-400 f/4L attached to a Canon 5DMK3 which looked lost on it  :(

No photos could be taken on a media card, but could shoot away focusing with it and changing the focus distance between the 1 and 1.4 switch.

I was impressed, even got the other half to photo me  :D

I then asked the damaging question, how much, he replied it didn't exist.  About the same time another college asked him to remove it from the stand, it seemed it shouldn't have come out, so I was lucky. Well, it was certainly nice trying it and it was not as heavy as I thought it would be hand held.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D3 vs. Nikon D600
« on: September 29, 2012, 07:37:35 PM »
I've got both the Canon 5D mk lll and the Nikon D600. Without the analysing between them, for me I bought the Nikon D600 to use while travelling, being ideal for lighter, smaller and reduced the lens weight.

My Canon lens 17-40 4L, 24-70 2.8L, 100-400 4/5.6L (also used to take the 70-200 2.8L IS, but stopped this lens a while ago due to the weight) to the Nikon lens setup of 16-35 F4 VR and 28-300 VR.

I've got a Virgin flight coming up with just 6KG handle luggage allowance and one bag only. I've been checked at the check-in and caught a couple of times, over the limit. Then having to quickly spread the weight between the hold suite cases, which I don't like letting my expensive Canon white lens going in the hold.

So for me its fit for purpose.  :D

24-70 f/2.8L II
70-200 f/2.8L IS II
200-400 f/4.0L IS (1.4X)

I would pick the same  ;)

My Hobby is photographing Cruise Ships  - And how my lens relate to that

Canon 5DII
Canon 5DIII

Canon EF 50mm 1.2L  Don't use that much, but when I do love it
Canon EF 17-40 4.0L   3rd used most lens
Canon EF 24-70 2.8L  Number 1 lens used the most
Canon EF 24-105 4.0L Ok Lens
Canon EF 70-200 IS 2.8L MkI Good at long distance in less sunlight
Canon EF 100-400 5.6L 2nd used most lens

Would Like
Canon EF 14-24 2.8L
Canon EF 200-400mm 4L IS USM 1.4x (or purchase next years Canon's megapixal camera and crop instead) Would be cheaper
Canon EF 70-300mm 4-5.6L IS USM
Canon EF 24-70 2.8L IS Mk III (long time wait) if they do a IS version

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: Post Your Summer Beach Shots here
« on: July 29, 2012, 01:13:48 PM »
Well, I was standing on a beach when I took the photo, it was very early in the morning, on the Isle of Wight. Photograph of the early arrival of the Queen Mary 2 in the Solent towards Southampton.  Taken using 100-400L
