Software & Accessories / Re: Magic Lantern Alpha 2 is out for the 7D !

Hi!

I could not find a newer version of the ML program for the 7D. As it would be a lot of work to "downgrade" the 7D, I wpould like to know, if there is an easier way to get ML running on an 7D

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 7D vs. 70D: Which has better image quality?
« on: February 05, 2014, 02:33:43 AM »
Hi Guys!

We own both bodies. Summed up, the 70D is really the better body. The 7D was a hit when we bought it. But, as written by others, it has no good ISO performance. Compared, the 70D is there much better. The AF comes close to the 7D´s. And the pics are a little bit sharper.
My tip: Save the plus of about 100 Euro and buy an 70D.

Lenses / Old lenses - really so bad?
« on: October 23, 2013, 05:04:43 PM »
Today I got my "new" 70D back from the shop I bought it in Munich. They exchanged it, after an system breakdown (posted).
My question: The shop assistents told me to exchange 2 of my lenses. I own an 70-200mm 2.8L and an 28-70mm L 2.8. I bought them about 7-8 years ago and they work well.
Are they really so "sub" using them on the 70D?
They said, that the 70D requires an IS Lens, the 70-200 II or the 24-70 2.8 II (no IS). Is this true?

EOS Bodies / Re: Reactions, Pros and Cons, and Results to the 70D

I was having a chat with the manager of a major retail chain outlet yesterday and we had a brief discussion about the 70D.
In short, this is probably Canon's best crop body yet, but the response from the buying public has been very underwhelming; they're sitting on the shelf much longer than expected.

40D is still my favorite Canon, 60D is very good too, but from what I've seen of the 70D you will likely find it a very pleasing upgrade from the 40D in most ways except for a few ergonomic differences.

If it is truly the best crop camera, it has to beat out the 7D which from what I have read is pretty tough to do.  I imagine they are on the shelf because of the uncertain economic climate.  If I had the money Now, I would order it today.

I think sales will pick up before Christmas.  There may even be a price reduction to lure more customers in.  I can only hope that happens.

Leo

IMO Canon cropped their sales by offering the 70D only to a few shops. In Germany, there is still no real price-competition. Amazon e.g. is still not able to deliver the body. I think most customers will wait until the body is on the free market.

A question to the community: Canon has deliberately delayed reviews of the 70D? I heared that rumor. Is this just rubbish, or true?

I could wait until 2014, if Canon releases an really "gamechanging" FF and crop-Cam that is better then the competitors. Especially an visibly better image quality would be such an gamechanging feature.

As my new 70D had an electronic failure, Canon was able to exchange it superfast. The shop, where I bought it (professional Canon store) just got a few of them. And the salesman was unhappy, about Canons behavior to keep the Camera rare until October.
I think personally he is quite right, when he says that this an disgusting Canon behavior.

I hope Canon will not do this in 2014 again, keeping the price high.

Much thanks for all your replies and advice!

As mentioned, I talked to the shop manager and I can return the 70D and get my money back.
The shop is ok, they would have exchanged the camera. But they do not have one anymore, as they got just two dozen of them. And Canon told me to get it repaired, what I think is not an good solution for a new camera.

I will order a new one when my money returned to me.

Canon General / Canon behavior at launching new products
« on: September 09, 2013, 03:26:52 AM »
As I have an actual problem with my new Camera, I wonder, if Canon will act as it does at releasing the 70D.

Announcing the Camera, delivering a few Cameras to professional Canon stores after some month of being announced - and delivering it to other stores after an long "announcment time".
For me, this is just to keep the price high by making the product rare.

My japanese Girlfriends think, that this will be done by all new "highlights" from Canon to milk us custoerms  as much as possible.
Maybe the 7D2 and an big MP Camera will be announced and released 2-3 month later and kept rare 6month. Rumored in by them. But who knows if this won´t be true?

What do you think?

Ok. This will be an possibility too. I will try it. Maybe it works to get the money back. I checked the www. and saw that there are some other shops offering the 70D.

Thanks a lot!!!

And if somebody is interrested, on the german Traumflieger page, there is an AF review video. impressive. But impressive too, that the mirrorless Cameras are very fast.

Much thanks for your replies!

I recharged one of my old 7D batteries and took the battery off the Camera over night, inserted an old 8GB SDHC card.
And in the morning I took some shots of the sunrise. And it worked.

But some minutes ago, my son tried it again - and it had the same problem as before. 0-Byte files, Error02
 :(

I will try to get some support from CPS on Monday

Hi!

I download it with the Canon Utility.

The problem is, that I can see the picture after the shot for 1-2 seconds. But if I look back/in the memory then the Camera tells me that there is an error. Sometimes Err02, then Err 30, 40 was there too.

My son thinks there is an internal failure, so I have to repair it anyway. I will write to Canon if they can exchange the Camera.

Try to return/exchange it. Better than having a new camera serviced. If they refuse threaten to report them to some authority. Plus mention their name. Don't keep it secret...

Hi tron!

They would have exchanged the Caera, but they do not have one anymore for some days or weeks. They will replace it, after the massmarket will be delivered.
But my holidays are starting in 3 weeks. :-(

Hi guys!

I need your help:
My brandnew 70D (4 days old), has problems at saving files on the sdhc card. I use an sandisc extreme 32 gb uhs-1 card. The first files on Wednesday and Thursday were ok, but now all Raw files have 0 Bytes, the jpegs too.
I tried one of my older sdhc cards, but there appears the same problem.
I did an reset on all Camera functions, and reformatted the card. The card is ok, when I save files from the computer on it.

What can I do?
My son thinks, there is an hardware problem. Is there anything I can do against it?

I wrote to the internet shop, where i bought it. They refused exchanging the Camera (despite they offer an uncomplicated exchange in the first 7 days if something is broken), because they only own a few of them.

Send it to Canon here in Germany? Or rely on an exchange?

Technical Support / Re: Help needes: EOS 7D - noisy pictures
« on: July 09, 2013, 02:01:27 PM »
Thanks for your help.

My son sent the camera to Canon-CPS. First message of the technican:
The AF of a few cameras are lacking  in AI servo of performance at fast objects moving toward the photographer. Moving away is no problem for the AF. They adjusted the sharpness of the lens-camera combination, but there seems to be an malfunction of the program/chip who "reads" the pixels and makes an file out of it.
If so, it will be an expensive repair.  :(

When my son returnes from holiday, he will post the image in raw. But I can not do this here, the filesize is too big.

Spend 20$ and buy an Nikon D400 strap in Hongkong.
My husband did - and he was more interresting for the men with the biiiiig lenses then all of the "bunnys" who went around at the Nürburgring on Saturday and Sunday.  ;)

Is this image pre or post processing? It looks quite underexposed as it is...
the pics are like shown in lightroom without any changes
