##### EOS Bodies / Re: Are there 39mp & 50mp+ Test Bodies in the Wild? [CR1]
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:29:34 AM »
Thank you jrista. FTM50 is better that FTM 0%.

Why not to go a step further for the fun: FTM 100%?

Let's see what is a contrast of 100%.
A picture of black and white lines, with a perfect optic, can for a particular spatial distribution give a contrast of 100%. In this case, the distribution is sinusoidal with min = 0 and max = 1.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeanrouck/6240117829#

The contrast value is there : 100% =  ( 100 + 0 ) / ( 100 - 0 )
black is 100 and white is 0.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeanrouck/6240565328/#

For a  FTM 50%,  the darkest is 75%of grey and the brightest is 25 % of grey.
contrast : 50% =  ( 75 - 25 ) / ( 75 + 25 )
So we are far away from the original black and white lines.

Remark : If Imax / Imin = 3 , the contrast is 50 %.
(100-33) / ( 100 + 33) = 50%
(75 - 25 ) / (75 + 25) = 50%
(30 - 10 ) / (30 + 10) = 50%

Maybe , this pictures help to see (undestand) that the number of pixels will never change the grey pixels in white and black pixels.  But one day, tools like the Richardson–Lucy deconvolution could help a little to find the original values and than more information will give better pictures.

Here is a picture with a part of the original sample,  a 24Mpix pict of the sample and 12 Mpix pict of the sample..
http://www.zeiss.com/C12567A8003B8B6F/GraphikTitelIntern/CLN31MTF-KurvenBild13/\$File/Bild_13.jpg
So you can see how a little black line is transformed, with a 12 MPx and a 24 MPx, in grey lines.

##### Lenses / Re: A New EF 400 f/5.6L Before Photokina? [CR1]
« on: September 04, 2012, 01:46:40 AM »
Replacement lens that currently costs about same as 100-400.  At f/5.6 why would anyone want this lens?  Help me understand benefit over 100-400?
The bokeh of prime is  better.

These are very good images , but possible for you to do them with yrou newest glass/ incremenrtal ISO on equiv balanced exposures if not still helps us and thank you!!!!

ie , grey card iso 100, 400, 1600, 3200, 6400, (Stupid210,000 iso)

and againt a older cam
I took the body only one hour in my hands.
I will give more pictures directly when I will receve my 1D-X. Maybe soon.

##### EOS Bodies / Re: The Megapixels are Coming [CR1]
« on: April 03, 2012, 07:08:21 AM »
A lot of people knows that Light is a transverse, electromagnetic wave that can be seen by humans. The wave nature of light was first illustrated through experiments on diffraction and interference.
But who have see samples that show this fact.

The post is : The megapixels are coming.

The last time that I had studied this subject, I had found this:

If you want to go quickly, then you will look at the crop  13.jpg.
left original                   center: 24 Mpix               right:   12 Mpix

If you want to understand more than you have to read the documents.

After you understand why Canon declare:
"The images produced with the EOS-1D X camera’s new sensor are so clean that files can easily be up-sized if necessary for even the most demanding high-resolution commercial applications."

My 2 words:  When white = 100%(RVB 255) and black = 0% (RVB 0)

FTM 50% is  a contrast =  75% - 25 % / ( 75% + 25 % )

If your optics have a contrast of:                                           50    % @  80 lp/mm:
The contrast will be  (87.5 - 12.5) / (87.5 + 12.5) =              75     % @ 40 lp/mm
The contrast will be  (93.75 - 6.25) / (93.75 + 6.25) =         87.5   % @ 20 lp/mm
The contrast will be  (96.875 - 3.125) / (96.875 - 3.125) = 93.75  % @ 10 lp/mm

Is far from :   100% - 0 % / ( 100% + 0 % )

So when the little lines, on my subject, are white and black. on my captor they arrive black washed and white dirty. So the real questions could it be?:

howmunch pixels want I to see the transistion from black washed towards white dirty?

Some days, I say 1DIV is not enough, some days 1DX is enough. Some of my friends think 7D.

##### EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS-1D X Delayed Again? [CR2]

i bet they want to fix the 200 .. 800 stabilisation issue before releasing it....

For the 5DIII, oups..

I have the 5DIII and the EF800mm and I dream about a solution.

5DII + 800mm, in one shoot mode, the photo are not sharp.
5DII + 800mm : AI servo mode, I can see vibration in the viewfinder.

Thank you Canon. I am a beta tester now.

##### Lenses / Re: Canon 400mm f5.6 L lens - upgrade needed.
« on: February 28, 2012, 06:08:25 AM »
I have wanted an EF 400mm f/5.6 IS for years. But now I would rather have an upgraded 100-400 IS with better IQ. And a 500mm f/5.6 IS if it could be half the price of the 500f/4 or the new 200-400.

I think near the same.

I dream about a new 400mm for years but:
The EF 400mm f/5.6 L is a very good choice for the price.  For action shoot, the IS is not very important.
If canon upgrade it, all the new birders will have to pay twice more for a very little improvement.
Actually, the user of the EF 400mm f/5.6 can work on monopode or tripode with good result for cheap.

The quality of a new  100-400 IS will be near the 400f/5.6. So the IS and sharpness will be for 3k\$.
But not the bokeh.

A 500mm f/5.6 IS would be a new exclusivity for CANON's users.
Can Canon construct it for 4k\$? Maybe 5k\$.

##### Lenses / Re: EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM and DXOMARK.COM
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:39:38 AM »
Thank you NEUROANATOMIST

"DxO can, and they do.  Do you define a 3 lp/mm difference as 'better'?  DxO states, "Differences below 5lp/mm are usually not noticeable."

I come back for difference between  EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM :    60lp/mm
and EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM :                                                   49lp/mm
and EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM                                              57lp/mm

When a surfer read dxo infos, has he to understand that the 100mm is good like the 24-105 and the 300 so bad?

Thank you keythR for your post :

On the site : lenstip.com, I find some very good  informations about tests for the 300mm  and the 100mm.
So still now, i will recommand it without restriction.

On this site :
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-300mm-f-2.8-L-IS-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx
I find also realistic informations.

Is there another good place to consult?

I post this on rumors because DXO has created a rumor.

I find a test of the new EF300mmf/2.8LISIIUSM on:

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/News/DxOMark-news/A-good-if-heavy-and-expensive-lens-the-Canon-EF-300-f-2.8L-II-USM

Who can explain that DXO find  the resolution of the old EF300mmf/4.0LISUSM is better?

Why Canon don't react at this point?

Are the FTM curve of CANON a joke?

If on dxomark, you compare the EF300mmf/2.8LISIIUSM with a zoom like the 24-105L, you can observe that the resolution of the zoom is also better. Very strange .

##### EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: What about the 1d Mark IV? Does anyone here own one?
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:02:31 AM »
A great tools of the 1D mk IV is the exposure level indicator.

You have to use the fel button and:

1.With multi spot metering readings, you can see the relative exposure levels of multiple areas in the picture and set the exposure to obtain the desires result.

2. with flash : the flash exposure level is a big plus.
Metered Manual Flash exposure is very easy with this.

The main difference between CANON and NIKON.

KENKO Lens-2-Scope or Bynolyt Lens-2-Scope?
Who is the constructor?

I have a KIPON EOS TELE.
I use it with EF800mm EF300mm and EF180mm.
They are no visible chromatic aberration. The mecanic is very good.
