Mac users use Aperture, pc users use Lightroom.

I think Lightroom dominates the marketplace across both platforms.

I'm a Mac user and I use LR4 and I think a fairly substantial number of Mac users use LR4 over Aperture.  I was surprised about earlier posts about Canon's DPP being better than both, has anyone else had the same experience or done test regarding DPP vs. any Adobe products?

Does anyone know how long it typically takes Adobe to send an update out when new lenses get released by manufacturers?  In this case I'm interested in when Adobe will release the profile for the new 24-70 f/2.8L IS II.  Second question is if this typically shows up as a software update that goes out to all or if this is something that needs to be downloaded individually?

I can't get over this stat.  This ramp is unreal.  Very impressive

The recent exponential growth is similar for DSLR bodies as well, with projections of 18 to 20 million interchangeable lens cameras to be sold during 2012, with another 100 million fixed-lens digital cameras (compacts etc.) also expected to be sold. Notwithstanding all of these mega numbers, of the 7 billion inhabitants of planet Earth, probably only 1-in-20 people own a serious camera ( < 5% and by serious I'm including basic Rebels like Canon's EOS 1100D and higher spec DSLR's) as distinct from camera-phones. So there still exists tremendous growth potential.

Unreal but I believe it.  Shift to digital has made photography so much more accessible for so many and I'm sure that feeling of accessibility will only increase as technology continues to advance.  Hopefully the ability to sell more and more high end products will mean that more companies like Canon will be dumping more and more into R&D to race ahead of the competition and we'll all reap the benefits (at a price of course).

+1 on the Sun Sniper.  I haven't tried the black rapid offering but I've been very happy with the Sun Sniper.  Very good padding, and the shock absorber helps when you're lifting a full frame w/ a white lens.  Since it screws into the tripod mount on the lens or on the camera (as I'm sure other brands do), the balance is great and you can hide the setup under an open jacket so that when you have it down, it's hiding under the back of your jacket.  You can also do get it setup so that when you have it down it will hang under a backpack.  I wouldn't worry about the swinging, perhaps it's because I'm paranoid, but I always seem to have my right hand on the camera so I can pull it up to my eye to shoot or to make sure it doesn't swing around.  Here's a link:

Filters.

Thanks for the reply.  How are you finding filters most useful to your photography?  ND to show motion / allow you to shoot wide open etc in daylight?  Circular polarizers to enhance images?  UV to save your butt if you've got butterfingers like I do?  Where are you seeing the most impact in areas that post production tweaking won't get you there?  Thanks in advance

I don't have any new numerical data to add to the discussion for sharpness etc, but I will say that after checking one out at my local camera shop this afternoon (I was a little stunned that they still had one as they only got one copy and no one had jumped on it yet), the "user experience" is absolutely fantastic.  I admit that I haven't shot with the mk1 version of this zoom but the new version is lightning fast while focusing (and that's on a 5d mark II, the shop didn't have a 5dIII out for me to try with).  The balance and feel are both wonderful and I ended up across the street scouring through Lightroom on my laptop to see what % of pictures i've taken with my 24-105 f/4L that were at a low enough shutter speed that they would have benefited enough from the IS to make a real difference.  I've been wishing I had a bigger aperture on the 24-105 for a while and I think I'm probably going to pull the trigger on this one and sacrifice the extra reach on the zoom for the bigger aperture and what most data point to be a sharper lens.

- I haven't shot at 70mm on a non IS lens before, can anyone provide any feedback on how slow they liked shooting on the mk1 version of this lens?
- When Canon has released lenses that have technical flaws or faults that they eventually fix, how long after the release are these typically discovered?  In other words, how much of a danger is there in being a first mover here?  I know we don't know until we know, but there are a lot of smart people on this forum with far more experience than me, so I'm always looking to learn off you guys.

I'll echo the ShutterSnitch advice. Don't waste your time on the EyeFi App. I also save my RAW files to the CF card and M JPEGs to the EyeFi. I then use 'matching RAW files' in Aperture and just bring in the files I selected on the iPad.

If using Lightroom or PS CS6, is there an easy way to match the selected JPEG's you select on the iPad with the RAWs you import into LR4 or PS?

Thanks for the advice, this could be very helpful for an upcoming shoot that I'm doing for friends for their engagement photos

All -
these are all wonderful suggestions and I definitely agree that there are a large number of ways that I can improve.  Very helpful, and thanks for offering up suggestions on how to improve in areas such as composition.  I've definitely had the experience where I know I'm looking at something that I find interesting, but have been disappointed with how the pictures have come out when they don't "pop" as much as I'd like them to.  Some of this is due to mobility limitations and it being tough to get close to subjects, but I know a can improve a lot with a better understanding of composition and what turns certain captures of scenes from good to great pictures.  I'm looking forward to getting better and all of this input is very helpful to me.  Thank you all for taking the time to respond here and if anyone else has suggestions, I'd certainly welcome any more homework that anyone else may want to hand out,

Canon General / Advice: If you had a month to learn anything about photography what would it be?

This is my first post on this forum but I've been a fan and observer for some time.  I decided to get into photography late last year as a way to help me "smell the roses" and take a break from work and escape a little.  I've loved every minute of it, however I was in an unfortunate accident over Memorial Day weekend and spent the last 3 months in the hospital.  I have learned a ton from all of you, and have about one month to go before I return to work.  I've learned Lightroom pretty well, I have a 5DIII and feel that I have a comfortable knowledge of getting around it and look forward to getting out and about and taking photos again and growing and learning as a photographer.  Since I have a lot of respect for this group I'd love to tap into all of your experience and ask the question of "if you had a month where you could dedicate hours a day to learning and becoming a better photographer, but had limited mobility and likely couldn't spend a lot of time 'behind the lens', what would you learn and how?"  I'd love to get to a point where I could put some very large prints on my walls that I was proud of and that I will continue to find interesting.  I'm open to learn anything and I appreciate any advice or input that anyone may have.  My Flickr account is pmcpmcpmc in case anyone wants to see what I've been up to until now; I'd love any feedback or suggestions.  Thank you in advance
