EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 6D or wait for New 7D?
« on: December 26, 2012, 06:39:36 PM »
I just went from T2i to 6D :)

If you are even considering the 6D that probably means youre not into sports photography. And yeah, just ask yourself, "Full frame or Crop Sensor".

the 6D is a mighty fine camera.

6D is a fine camera if you do feel the need to stretch for a better lens, however have you considered the Tamron 24-70 VR? not too far off the IQ of the 24-70 mark ii and roughly the same price as the 24-105 :)

EOS Bodies / Re: 6d aus release?
« on: December 13, 2012, 07:52:00 AM »
Its released already, just stores arent stocking it :)
Ordered mine in Myer last week with a $15 off every $75 spent, PLUS $10 extra for every $100 gift card, PLUS the $300 rebate for kit lens (24-105)
all up 6D + 24-105 = $2590 or something :)
Came in on Tuesday, been using it since. Highly recommend it.

Software & Accessories / Re: Lightroom Presets.....

Are you applying the presets to RAW or JPEG's?
Presets could be developed for either one, and will look bad if applied on the wrong one.

Software & Accessories / Re: Do It Yourself Black Rapid type Strap
« on: November 20, 2012, 05:35:47 AM »
This is actually how I carried my camera on my recent world trip (About 12 cities in Europe and Asia)
I bought a rip-off Black Rapid Screw from ebay, and had that in my tripod mount. Then I had a twisty Caribeena/Harness thingy like the one used on the black rapid straps, attached to a heavy duty caribeena that I'd duct-taped together on the strap of my messenger bag. It was fantastic.
For the first couple of countries, I would tend to have my hand on the camera at all times, scared that it would detatch itself and fall onto the floor, etc. But after I got used to it, I trusted it so much, and it was brilliant.
Easy enough to take off of my bag too if I needed to. Was definitely better than carrying BOTH a black rapid and a bag, felt more comfortable and stuff, and I could carry my other lenses (and everything else you pick up whilst travelling lol)  in my bag too.

TOTAL COST (Already owned the bag): $25 AU

In these pictures you can kind of see how I did it. (The last picture, my camera was not attached but you can see the caribeena. Plus im next to a TARDIS, so whatever haha)

EDIT:
just realized im wearing the same top in every photo. How awkward.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Can someone help me with low light settings
« on: October 06, 2012, 12:35:31 PM »
As long as no-one from Melbourne steals my tips (and my business :P ) then here's how I shoot.

My equipment: T2i, 15-85mm lens, 580 exII (with stofen or Bounce card depending on venue)
this setup is fine for clubs, honestly, only full-frame could look better

Full Manual.
Shutter: 1/10
Aperture: f/4.0 (but set larger for big groups)
ISO: anywhere between ISO 200-800 (big groups sometimes 1600)
Flash either on ETTL, but I mostly shoot manual flash 1/8 or 1/4, second curtain flash

obviously it depends on the venue, but these are the settings i use in most of the clubs, bars and pubs i work in/have worked in.

Sometimes exposures need to be fixed up in lightroom from using the flash on manual, but yeah, thats an easy job.

Probably a bit too extreme in my example (only spent a minute in LR4), but for dull sky's I usually lower exposure, lighten the shadows, add a bit of clarity, and then raise the blues, and lower the luminosity for the blues. Play with colour temperatures and vibrance til i get what I like.
