EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: The 5D Mark II: Happy 4th Anniversary!

Been waiting on the long rumored announcement about the "entry level" FF. After the announcement I am now going to buy the 5D2. It might be 4 years old but I would have to say it's still going strong!

Overall, though, it's difficult to shake the feeling that the EOS 6D simply lacks the 'wow' factor of its main rival. Whereas Nikon seems to have taken the approach of taking away as little as possible from D800 when creating the D600, Canon appears almost to have gone the other way, removing as much as it thinks it can get away with at the price. The result is the kind of conservative, slightly unimaginative design that's become the company's hallmark. It's still bound to be a very good camera, of course; just perhaps not quite as good as it could be.  -http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canon-eos-6d/6- DPReview

My FF upgrade will now be to a 5D2 - NOT the 6D! From my perspective the 6D is disappointing, DPReview summed it all up, "conservative, slightly unimaginative design that's become the company's hallmark." I have no plans to jump back to Nikon but Canon needs to watch their back. Technology moves ahead at warp speed and if Canon's stodgy approach continues, they may loose market share and eventually their dominance in the marketplace.

As a 7D owner who was looking to upgrade to FF - I'm not impressed with the 6D specs. I had hoped for more from the 6D, so my move to FF will be to a 5D2. The 5D2 is a tried and proven FF performer that I can acquire for less money with more resolution and enough features for my needs. Between the 7D and the 5D2, I have all the performance and capability I need for the next couple of years. Given the pace of change and innovation, who knows what i will get to choose from in a couple of years. In the meantime, I will have two great systems to work with as I continue my photographic journey!

As a 7D owner who plans to add a FF body to my gear, I have been waiting for this announcement. As the actual details of the Nikon D600 were released, I realized that what might be coming from Canon might also be more along those lines. These latest round of Canon specs seem to confirm that what's coming is more of a cannibalized version of several models than a stripped-down FF. All-in-all the specs from my perspective look puny for the price. I will wait for the "official announcement" before making any purchase but now I'm leaning in the direction of buying a 5D2. I think for my needs and budget this would give me everything I want in a known product (no surprises and or issues to stumble into with a brand new model) and the price keeps coming down.
