lenses change over time due to minor bumps, its a good idea to periodically check the AFMA.  I've noticed no difference with firmware updates.

...yeah that's true.
Good practice to check AFMA from time to time as you say.
Thanks for info.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / AFMA changes since 5D MK III firmware 1.3.3 ??
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:15:49 AM »
Has anyone else noticed they need to re-adjust AFMA values for lenses since upgrading to firmware 1.3.3?

My 70-200f2.8L II used to focus accurately with W +8 and T +5. I've recently redone AFMA on this lens and it now seems most accurate left at 0 on both W & T. Admittedly I don't use software for adjustment but do it old styley, which has always been good for me.

If it was a very slight change I'd not be too surprised but this seems quite an adjustment.
Anyone had similar experience?

I'm more than satisfied with my MP-E 65.
Think I'd rather Canon looked at a mark II of the MT-24EX.

A pixel size of 6.54┬Ám or greater would make me interested.
I'd get one to dedicate to my macro work and be backup to my 5D3

Software & Accessories / Re: Kirk BH-1 or RRS BH-55 Ballhead?

I've actually got the custom kirk plates for my 5DIII and 70-200II already thanks SwampYankee. I actually connect my black rapid strap to it with a kirk clamp too. Nice solution.

Maybe I should just stick to Kirk then and get the BH-1 if both ballheads are close in performance.

Thanks for the other brand suggestions guys.
I've kind of already short listed it down though from the big players to either the Kirk or RRS taking in to account my needs and wants etc. Just can't decide which to go for and was wondering if someone had something to say that I'd not considered or was aware of regarding these two.

I've seen one review online say that the Kirk wasn't very smooth, though other reviews contradict that. If I could buy them both locally here in the UK I would and just pick which one I prefer but I have to get the RRS head from the US and deal with import duty etc. so not quite so simple.  :-\
Decisions decisions...

Software & Accessories / Kirk BH-1 or RRS BH-55 Ballhead?
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:46:56 PM »
Hi people...

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the Kirk BH-1 or RRS BH-55 Ballhead.
Anyone have any suggestions for me or experience with these?
I'm in the UK and can buy the Kirk easily here but would have to buy the RRS head from the US and pay for import charges and wait longer for delivery. I've worked out that the cost will be pretty much the same for either option.

Another bit of info is that my camera and lens plates are Kirk plates, but as I understand these will work with RRS.

Dear Friend, Mr.lastcoyote
I use LED Ring Light for my dear MP-E 65 mm., Since 4-5 years, and still love this LED Ring light, which can turn on  Both Left side and Right side---Or just one side of the LED. Ring light , for the Shade and shadow to make the subject 3D. look. Yes, Super Cheap TOO = jUST $ 36 us dOLLARS---If you do not like , Just throw them away.

Thanks for reply Surapon.
Yes it seems to me most people use a continuous ring light for macro video, similar to the one you linked to.
I guess I need to literally try out the options to see what works best.

Lighting / LED lighting for Macro Video

Hi people..
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for continuous lighting for macro video?
Specifically filming using the MP-E 65mm Macro Photo lens. I'm experienced with taking still shots with this tricky lens, but just getting round to thinking about filming with it on my 5DIII.
I have the MT-24EX Twin light macro flash and wonder if adding either a Manfrotto ML120 or ML240 led light to the hotshoe mounts on the flash head lens bracket from this would work?

Anyone do the same sort of thing? Or have alternative suggestions?

Software & Accessories / Re: Step Up Ring 77-82 for 70-200 f2.8L II ?

Thanks Neuroanatomist.
I fear I may end up going the route of spending out to get another CPL in 77mm.
Too fiddly otherwise.

Software & Accessories / Step Up Ring 77-82 for 70-200 f2.8L II ?
« on: June 29, 2014, 06:24:40 PM »
I've just got a B+W XS-PRO CPL for my 24-70 f2.8L II and want to use it for my 70-200 F2.8L II which of course requires a 77-82 step up ring.

I know the one I'd buy, the Heliopan ring as it's made of brass. The question I have is it a usable solution using a step up ring for this lens? I'm guessing the lens hood won't fit. If anyone has any firsthand experience could they give me some advise? Cheers.

Oh it feels very smooth when rotating through the whole turn :)
It does seem to be getting even better with use as you say.
Really brings out the colours and enables you to get better exposure balance on the land part of the image when including a bright sky. Definitely will benefit my travel shots.

Just got this filter for my 24-70 f2.8L II.
It's actually my first CP filter. I've tried it out briefly and it certainly does what it's supposed to. Love it.
The only thing I wanted to ask people who have this particular filter is if when turning the outer ring do you occasionally get a slight 'shooshing' sound like it's slightly rubbing every now and again on the turn? It's still rotates really nice and smooth when it does it though which is good.
