Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon Refurbished Lens Sale
« on: November 19, 2012, 08:35:19 PM »
They recently did a sale on the ef-s lenses thats true however I'm waiting for some discounts on the L glass such as the 24-70 I, even without a discount that price is amazing.

Does anyone know or have an idea when Canon will throw on another refurbished sale? I've been waiting to buy quite a few lens, as last time I was unaware they didn't ship down under  :(

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: New 60D or Second-hand 7D?
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:04:35 AM »
I've owned both the 60D and 7D and I would recommend the 7D without a doubt, the improvement over a 60D is massive.     If I had my time again I would have just bought the 7D in the first place, although compact flash cards are more expensive they are also better if you are thinking of upgrading to 'more professional' cameras.   Also the fps on the 7D is absolutely amazing.

I could not recommend the 7D more.

If you have any further questions, pm me

Are you planning to travel with your tripod? If so I'd recommend something Carbon Fibre like the Manfrotto 055cxpro4, if not a manfrotto 055xprob will suffice.

+1 Neuro's tripod head advice

Canon 50mm 1.4, it is a great lens for the price and on an aps-c it gives a great field of view

the only limiting factor on the 24-105 in my opinion is the f4, I would prefer a lens wider than 2.8!

Today I went to use another 24 70 ii, and the first copy I looked at must have been a dud. This was much better, I know that you can correct vignetting post processing, but its really not a look which I like in my photos (personal preference).

I think I will rent a copy of a 24mm just to see how it is with people photography, but i can understand how it can be too wide.

Thanks for your help guys

Software & Accessories / Re: BG-E11 weight

The weight is quite heavy but I'm sure you will get used to it, a canon hand strap is a great way to go, its what I have been using for the past few months

Have you considered Crumpler? I am biased as I'm from Australia but they are amazing bags.  Also maybe check youtube for some reviews, I'm fairly sure DRev did a review on several bags

As most people have said here the black rapid rc7 is a great strap I frequently carry the 5d iii and 70-200 is ii and the weight doesn't worry me

It depends how heavy your lens are and if you want fluid movement or a simple ball head.  I use a 498RC2 and I think that it satisfies my needs, which is mainly landscape photography.

One thing I would definitely recommend is a quick release tripod, it just makes things so much easier.

Lightroom 4.x its a great program and I personally find it a lot more user friendly than Photoshop

Lenses / Re: What lenses do you own?
« on: October 06, 2012, 05:29:19 AM »
I shoot with a 5d Mark iii, I previously had a 7D and a 60D

Previous lens were
- 18-200mm f3.5-5.6
- Sigma 50-500
- Sigma 17-70 f2.8-3.5
- Canon 50mm f1.8

Currently I have
- Canon 50mm f1.4
- Canon 70-200 f2.8 is ii

Accessories
- 580 ex ii
- Manfrotto 055cxpro4
- Manfrotto 680B
- Manfrotto Ball heads
etc

Nearly every lens can take amazing pictures, but the real magic comes from the photographer. I started basic and tried to perfect skill by skill with the lens I had.  I would unequivocally recommend any of the above lens and they have all given me amazing shots.

I think you should upgrade when you feel the need to, for example I didn't like the pop up flash on the 60D so that lead me to buying a 580ex ii.  Now that I have the 580ex ii I'm learning how to use it more so that requires new spending on items such as stofen omni bounce, gary fong lightsphere etc.

My favourite lens by far is the 70-200 f2.8 is ii, it is well worth the money!
