Changed iso to 100 and count goes up to from 665 to 829

Hi, just upgraded to 1.0.6.
I noticed that after formatting  a Lexar 32 GB the number of shots  (R+jpgL10)is now 665, and it used to be around 800 shots for that card.
I loaded an empty "old" card which gave me a free shot count of 807. I took one shot and the free count went down to 664
Did anybody notice same?

I noticed the back focus problem before, but I tought it was my own stupidity. I will try later this week

RAW files are losslessly compressed (that's why each RAW file has a slightly different file size). Generally speaking, higher ISO shots and those from lenses with noticeable distortion (fisheye lenses) compress less, and have larger file sizes. The larger the file size, the less you can fit on a card.

Try this: put your lens cap on, and dial in an exposure of ISO 100, 1/400th second shutter speed, any aperture. Fire off a burst like that and see what the camera reports back as the number of shots the card can hold. I bet the number will be bigger.

Update: Cancelled my (still unfilled) pre-order from B&H, and walked into a local store and picked up a unit. Odd.

Damn, I wonder where they got them from if the big suppliers still have nothing. I'll make some phone calls to see if there are actually units in stock. Great to have an option if B&H falls through, thanks pharp!

I've been having this lock-up issue too - it has happened on two separate occasions.

Both times it occurred was on the 2nd or 3rd photograph in a bracketed set of 7. Turning the camera off and back on resolves the problem and I can shoot the bracketed set again without troubles.

I'm using Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB and 32GB cards. I've yet to contact Canon about the issue, though I am thinking it might be worth the call instead of waiting to see what a firmware fix may offer.

The title says it all - I'm still waiting for the GPS unit specifically designed for the 1D X. Heading into the wilderness of the Yukon in less than a month, and I have no idea if it will arrive on time (September 10th).

I know the GP-E2 is available to some degree, but that's not the unit I plunked down money to pre-order.

Lifepixel offers hydrogen alpha conversion of DSLRs, I wonder if a modified 60D from them will be identical as a 60Da from Canon? http://shop.lifepixel.com/4-Convert-your-digital-camera-to-astrophotography-Hydrogen-Alpha-c16/

Beyond that, Canon releases special camera versions every so often, like last year with the 7D SV - barcode scanning capabilities and modified firmware to meet the mass portrait industry. Not sure if they sold any, though.

I have a 1D X on order, and as much as I want the camera here as soon as possible, I also understand that they are trying to produce the best possible camera they have ever created.

Perfection takes time, and I'd rather wait and have a perfect camera than have one today with noticeable flaws.... but of course the delay still upsets me

Your justifications do not silence that little voice - Canon updated and added many features on the 5DII in the past (because no product in its class in the foreseeable future could deliver those features - I get that), which gave me lingering hope for more to come.

Just updated without problems. It's a shame that whenever there is a firmware update posted, that a little voice inside me is hoping gleefully that there will be some added feature. Ah well.

Canon should include a secondary camera in the viewfinder, that records your retina with infrared light. This retina information can later be used to prove exactly who took the image.

This could be very useful with complicated copyright laws. If you rent or borrow a camera, technically you don't own it and copyright is retained by the owner of the camera in some cases (I believe... I'm no lawyer!).

It could also be incredibly useful as more and more devices are connected to the internet. Imagine this - a new generation of cameras have cellular connections to automatically upload images. Someone steals your camera, and you report it stolen. Through a retina scan, they can tell exactly who is using the stolen camera and return it to you.

Retina information would be encoded to a unique signature (like a digital fingerprint) so every image you take doesn't have an actual picture of your eye piggy-backed onto it. This signature could also be hashed with the image data, so any changes to the original image data could be detected.

As crazy as it sounds, its not a bad idea!
