Anyone could have taken those photographs as there is nothing special about them.

I just looked up your profile for more inspirational photos and found this one

I guess difficult for anyone to take this?

I know it is pointless thing I have written... but then people started all that pointless discussion.

In forums like this... I feel there are far too many repeaters and very few transmitters... otherwise we should see lot of examples of how canon is limiting their creativity and how often they run into those scenarios...

I dont understand what this DR gossip/bragging is all about.. Anyways, I got convinced and went to sell all my canon gears to buy nikon 6D.. shop owner was offering sensor cleaning kit for free (dont know why).... but when I asked for some speciality lenses.. he returned my money and got angry....

Later on he was mumbling something like this...

Actually the sensor in mine is from Sony.
Notice how Canon owners don't know their stuff.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: EF 24-70 f/4L IS in Stock at B&H Photo
« on: January 04, 2013, 06:59:15 AM »
Just because you cannot afford it or not willing to buy it at that price now does not mean it is "crazy" ... many of us bought 5DMK III at $3499 ... now the price has dropped, but we bought the camera when we wanted/needed it, so those who bought it at that price are not crazy ... 24-70 f/4 IS too will have many takers who need such a lens now ... generally people who wait for several months or years for the price to drop are the ones who do not really need that product.

I think he is just trying to express himself so no point criticizing him and I feel camera body price drops are not comparable to lens price drop...

I, myself, have bought many products just after release but I think that generally people who wait for whatever reasons (except some constraints due to which they cannot buy)
1. may have more patience than me
2. they are better placed than me to buy product with wide reviews/real-life-feedback
3. they may even get other options to select from
4. price drop is always welcome

btw, there are many who have a product but don't really need it.

those who say canon L glass holds value better... I dont think that is true for new lenses.

when 24-70 II was launched, it was going for around 19K HKD (here in hong kong)
Now, it is around 16K HKD
Difference is around 390 USD

Difference between launched price and current price of tamron 24-70 is less than 1000 HKD (one third)

Someone who bought new tamron and is not happy and want to switch to canon version now or few months down the road... is better off compared to those who bought new canon after launch.

I wonder how much this one will drop in price and how soon...

NOW...show me the sharpness of your Tamron under lower light with ISO around 1600.

Actually I was browsing through flickr group for tamron 24-70 and, if you do so, it will give you an idea what that lens is capable of.

Interesting topic... personally I feel that resale value of original manufacturers may take a hit... I wont be surprised if we start seeing comments like resale value or glasses are forever is overrated!!

macros, 35/50/85 primes... walk around zooms and now TS from samyang...

recently I stumbled upon one guy's flickr and his pics using humble 18-55 were so impressive that I feel more strongly on thing behind sensor is far more important than what is in front of it.

« on: December 22, 2012, 11:05:05 PM »

At least, with this new sigma, no of potential used 35L buyers (or maybe 24L buyers too who are not sure which FL to get or get first) will be lot less. even used 35L is lot costlier than new sigma... which is a good thing for us as a consumer. Even I was thinking to buy one used 35L earlier but decided on sigma.. so far I am happy.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: The seemingly amazing Sigma 35
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:22:46 AM »

I bought it last week.

For me:

1) It is best looking lens I have used till date (I own 24-105, 24 1.4 II, 50 1.4, 40 STM, 85 1.8, 70-300 L and recently bought used 17-40 and 135L ... none of them look as sexy as this new sigma)... maybe not so imp for many but what I noticed.

2) So far, I am very pleased with the result... esp at that price. I am not any pro or pixel peeper. I am a serious ameature and for me, esp recently, I have started to look more into glasses with better value.
I cannot justify 35L price tag and was waiting for this lens ever since it was announced.
I am getting rid of 50 1.4 and in 2 months time, I will most probably get rid of 24 1.4 II too (I have one trip planned where I feel 24 will be useful for me).

3) I dont give too much notice to sharpness, but this one looks as sharp as my 24 1.4 II if not more (at 100% crop)

4) I do not find colors etc from this lens to be flat. I used this along with 24 1.4 II, and to me, I do not see too much of a difference.

I had L syndrome earlier but I think I am recovering from it slowly. I bought one used sony RX100 recently and images from that are such that I will not miss too much my 5DII+24-105 combination (maybe 24mm end).
Personally, I am actually thinking to trim down lenses I own to speciality lenses (UWA, tele, 35,85,135) and carry one good point and shoot like rx100 along with it.

EOS Bodies / Re: Humidity
« on: October 25, 2012, 03:25:51 AM »

I have tried many things and Electric Dry Cabinets works best (they come with hygrometer and you can set the humidity level you want to keep it on). I bought it when I was in Singapore for around 130 SGD (close to 100/110 USD I guess). Singapore can get really humid too.. Mine is medium size and I can keep 5D II, 5-6 lenses and few other small electronic stuff in it. (Mine is I think DigiCabi.. just to get an idea you can lookup at their site http://www.digihub.com.sg/index.php?route=product/category&path=20 )

I bought one extra cheap hygrometer to keep inside my cabinet (in-case built in one is stops working).

Long back, I read somewhere in forums that if you use your camera/lenses very frequently like once a week then you could be fine without any dry bags/cabinets..... I am not sure about that theory though.

You have invested so much money in your equipment, dont hesitate to spend little bit more and buy yourself a peace of mind.

Lenses / Re: efs 15-85 or ef 24-105L
« on: October 24, 2012, 02:17:59 AM »

I will go for 15-85 (I owned one in the past) because for me, 15-85 is more useful range on crop sensor compared to 24-105 (When I was using crop body, I paired my 15-85 with 70-300 L).

Lenses / Re: Lens suggestions for 3 weeks trip to Egypt and Jordan
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:58:31 PM »

Since there are some interesting feedbacks and comments on egypt travel, I thought I will try to summarize what I intend to do in egypt… please feel free to comment as that will help me in planning if I have not taken that into consideration

* I have two separate tickets booked.. one return ticket to Amman from HK and then second one is Amman to egypt cities and return.
This way if something unforeseen happens in egypt, I will cancel my second phase and will book myself to turkey or some other place close by… on in worst case enjoy wadi rum and jordan more.

* I have good travel insurance covering egypt trip cancellation due to unrest or if govt raises the warning level to egypt etc. + All my bookings can be cancelled without any penalty if cancelled before 48 hours including air tickets (well for air ticket I will be losing around 1100 HKD which is 100 sh USD.. which should be fine and even easier to claim from travel insurance).

* I was reading forums for last three months and it seems most of issues happens around demonstration which happens after fridays prayers. I am not staying in cairo on any of fridays and other than that obviously will be avoid any kind of demonstration, other than that it seems life is as usual in Egypt (as per their standards).

* I generally try to rough things out but this time I am making an exception… cannot take chances esp with family. After spending lot of time on tripadvisor, I have found some highly recommended guides for cairo and luxor (those who does not cost an arm and a leg).
Hopefully this will save me from some hassle and from touts as well.

* Yes I want to do nile cruise, luxor temples, cairo, abu simbel etc… but one place I am really looking forward to is
White Desert, Black Desert, Sea of Sand … I am planning 4 nights in this area… this is the only off beaten track I am willing to take.
More I read about these places, more I want to go there… Most of problems in remote areas are happening around Sinai (which is western side) and these areas are on eastern desert so hope this should be fine… still trying to figure it out though.

We always wanted to go to Egypt and planned and cancelled it few times earlier.. hope things will work out this time.

The pyramids deserve the 24LII! The 40 would be perfect for travel you don't give up on image quality but on weight. If you add a third i'd do the 85. Most ranges are covered and the results, god If i could take my 24L there and shoot!

Thanks. I am leaning towards 24 1.4 II... I have started to think this way ... Which one I may miss/regret more.
esp due to
inside monuments where flash is not allowed
sound and light shows in pyramids, abu simbel and luxor
overnight stays in deserts and night sky..
