EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Announcement Soon? [CR1]
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:30:28 PM »
I highly doubt this rumor, I believe if there will be a 6D entry level FF priced @ 1999 USD then it will the same 5DII body but with the 5DIII sensor, that's it. Maybe a few more bells and whistles but not much improvement than the current 5DII body.

They'd better come up with the entry level FF camera soon, I've been reading the rumors of the Nikon D600, the 24mpix FF camera in the 1500$ range. For the first time since my first dSLR 5 yrs ago I feel tempted to switch to Nikon or sell my beloved 5DII.

C'mon Canon, an 18mpix (1Dx sensor) or 22mpix (5DIII sensor) FF sub-2000$ camera in 5DII body will both sell a lot and make many customers happy, customers like myself who only need a sensor upgrade and are satisfied with the remaining specs of their 5DII, or customers who want to upgrade to FF but are limited on budget.

Lenses / Re: Lenses: 35L II & 85L III Next Up? [CR1]
« on: April 23, 2012, 04:33:18 PM »
I have really lost the will to care for any new Canon products :( I can guess the new 85 will be 3000 USD, the new 35 will be 2000 USD. Both will be overpriced like all new Canon products :( I visit this site out of a habit now not because I'm really waiting for something new because of the new prices.

Whining aside, I'd love to see new non-L primes. I love my 85/1.8 for example and I'd love to see a new good non-L 35/1.8 or 35/2 with a similar performance :-\

5D Mark III

Some more clarification about the upcoming 5D Mark III. It will be moving a bit more high end with an improved 7D AF system. Expect it November/December 2011.

1D Mark V

The next version will be moving into the 1Ds territory as the new high end digital SLR. Expect it to be fullframe by the sounds of it. Late 2011/early 2012. No specs finalized yet.

24-70 f/2.8L IS

It’s coming and will be announced with a camera body at the end of 2011. I haven’t heard a peep about the lens in a while.

100-400

An interesting tale about this lens. Apparently the replacement has been canned and is being redesigned.

cr

It feels a bit weird to me that everything is November/December! Maybe you mean available in markets in Nov/Dec & not announced? I doubt Canon will past PMA 2011 in September without any SLR announcements.

So much for the A-series being replaced in CES... no rumors are correct anymore, even entry level P&S cameras :(

EOS Bodies / Re: Design Your Own Canon Body

There's also a thought in my head if I were to be the Chief Designer in Canon's dSLR division. I addition to the 5DIII above I'll say let's redefine the entry level camera. Basically the idea is to have everyone starts with Canon coz they'll be more likely to stick with Canon.

I'll take an old Rebel, something like the Rebel XSI (450D)
Put an improved sensor in it in terms of low light and resolution, don't add anything else, maybe remove stuff, like removing servo, decreasing AF points to maybe 5 AF points, and of course reduce size dramatically to something like AE-1 film cam.

Strip the camera down greatly to be basically an excellent sensor, an EF lens mount, basic AF & shutter button. And sell it for 200-300$ or something that's very cheap. This will get all wannabe SLR users to buy it as it will be the cheapest new SLR ever.

This idea just came into my mind a couple of months back when I was playing with my wife's old AE-1P I said to myself why not make a very basic camera like this one but with very simple AF and call it AE-1PD.

I think this will sell a lot, I know I'd buy one as an everyday camera. Just a thought.

Although I'd consider it a 5DIII not a 7DII.

Man, you freaked me out, this is EXACTLY what I had in mind when I read the thread title, even with the wireless radio flash trigger, AF assist beam, 18mpix FF, EVERYTHING!!

I'm glad someone else wants EXACTLY what I wont. :D

Cheers

JRSJ 7D-Redesign

(Excuse the photoshop.)

18MP FullFrame w/ Dual Digic IV
ISO 100-12,800
19 Point AF System
24/25/30/50/60 FPS recording modes in 1080p/720p (50,60)
5 FPS (8 FPS with battery grip)
Remove built in flash to make room for 100% VF
Dual CF (or CF and SD slots)
Selectable "Electronic Shutter Mode" to allow flash sync up to 1/500s (at the cost of slower FPS)
AF Assist Lamp (like the one found in the EOS 5 and ST-E2)
Reposition DOF button to the opposite side of lens mount and include another button above it. (Both of which can be customized.)
LiveView/Video Mode toggle switch to include third option: Mirror Lock Up (Represented by blue triangle pointing up.)
Weather Sealing.

Optional: Since the 100% VF would mean the omission of the wireless flash commander, they should include a radio antenna inside the camera body that can trigger Canon flashes. (Of course, only if Canon were to have radio receivers built into their new flash units.)

This would reposition the 7D to the Full Frame tier, and makes pricing hard to judge. If this camera was released instead of the original 7D, I would roughly figure $3200 for body only. This could see a decline in 5DMK2 sales, (due to features and video modes.) and allow the price of the 7D to drop before the 5DMK3 release. When released, the 5D MK3 would need to have enough features in it to allow a retail of $3500+. (Such as more AF points/MP, Dual Digic V, 4K video, etc...)

Lenses / Re: 24 - 70 f/2.8 L : When Is The New Version Expected?
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:31:46 AM »
I've been keeping an eye out as well ... the current version is around $1250USD right now at Amazon and I'm wondering if I should just pull the trigger at that price or just keep waiting. I have a few primes I am switching between and can wait.

I've been waiting for over a year now, both for IS and for fear of getting a "bad copy" of the current version.

I became fed up of all the waiting, bought the current version from amazon for 1230 USD and got a perfectly good copy :D

Couldn't be happier :D although IS would be great on this lens @70mm, but for the price I bought it I have no regrets. And IF an IS version is released in 2011 it will be easy to sell mine used and not loose much, as I already got it for a great price :D

Lenses / Re: EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS Patent
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:26:47 AM »
So Mr. "Not-noob" do you actually really think this lens will have better IQ than the 24-105L ?? From your experience with Canon (or any other manufacturer for that matter), do you think they'll ever do such thing??

I think this lens will be attractive to joe public.

Yeah, "Joe public" who will buy a 5DII or 5DIII?? and then come to forums complaining that his new camera is soft? :D

It might be a replacement to the 28-135 bundled with 7D or 60D though... and will probably has better IQ than 28-135. But why then did Canon bother to make a cheap EF lens and not a better EF-S Kit for such cameras.

It's either that we are crazy, Canon are crazy, or maybe just maybe something really great is about to happen!!

Everybody keeps on talking on the new FF mpix boost and current lenses resolving this boost etc... so why on earth are they releasing a cheap kit lens that will certainly have less IQ than the 24-105L ???? who will put this on 5DIII when people are already doubting the ability of the 24-105L to resolve the extra mpix!!!

UNLESS... MAYBE... Canon will divide the 5D series into 2 categories (like they did the 50D) one with better AF higher than the current 5D price (3d), and a lower same AF in a cheaper body (6d)!

So we're crazy: Any crappy lens can resolve any sensor
Canon are crazy: They don't care that lenses can or cannot resolve the new sensors
Something great: 3D & 6D!

I hope it's the last one, this is the only common sense answer to the existence of this lens IMO.

EOS Bodies / Re: No 1Ds IV? [CR1]
« on: November 10, 2010, 03:41:18 AM »
Aaaah... I don't know what to believe anymore. IMO it doesnt really make sense to have a FF 1Ds IV for 8000$ anymore... you can buy both 5DII (which is nearly the same for Landscape & studio) and a 1DIV (which is better for sports) for this price, and take one of them depending on your shoot.

However it also doesnt make any sense to me that the flagship camera is 1.3x crop and not FF!!

Maybe what they can do is have the 5DII stay at 21-24 mpix and have the 1DsIV 32+ mpix so that they can differentiate...

Or maybe have the 1DsIV have exactly same specs of 1DIV (including FPS) but with a FF high mpix sensor using new processors...

I really don't know what to think... only time will tell.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III Specs [CR1]

The most interesting thing is probably the "low-noise photo diode" thing... Canon seriously need new sensor technologies to keep up with competition.

The 7D still holds up well against new crop cameras, but you need to apply NR and resize etc... Canon needs to be ahead of everyone again without all the processing the users have to go through. And don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my 7D, but I'm expecting the D700 successor to be on par with D3s in noise or maybe slightly slightly behind it.

The Improved AF is expected, how much improved, time will tell...

Lenses / Re: EF 100-400 Version 2 Coming [CR2]
« on: October 29, 2010, 06:06:45 AM »
Could this be a lens that goes head to head with the Nikon 200-400F4???

It could, but then the rumor would be completely wrong. A lens with half the zoom range, larger aperture, much higher weight and 2-3 times the price would hardly be a 100-400 replacement.

I agree.

The current EF 100-400/4.5-5.6 cost $1,500. A 30% raise is reasonable. A 60% is borderline. Anything more and I go for the Sigma, which is $500 cheaper than the current model to begin with.

The funny thing is that the Current 100-400/4.5-5.6 is 1500 USD, the Nikon's 200-400/4 is 7000$

So anything in between can be anything in between...

It's a bit disturbing to think about it... If canon made it fixed f/4 aperture, it will for sure be at least 4000-5000$, if not more given that it has a wider range.

If they made it the same apertures as the current one, they will for sure increase the price quiet much, they see what Nikon lenses are being charged for, and this encourages them to increase the prices (70-200 2.8 II ?)

There's nothing "new" about the camera body in the photo. I can't tell if it's a new body or just a normal 5DII or 1DIV

And what about the new extenders? no date/price yet??
