Technical Support / 10 Stop ND Filter - Metering
« on: May 03, 2013, 09:04:13 AM »
i got  my 10 stop ND filter today.  :)

now i wonder why the metering is completely off.
i knew it would maybe not be 100% accurate, but my 550D shows me 1/100s or 1/200s when a correct exposure is around 10 seconds.

but when i use live view the metering is correct.

why is that?

Third Party Manufacturers / cheap android tablet for 6D ??
« on: April 11, 2013, 07:27:07 PM »
i want to buy a cheap android tablet for my 6D.
7 inch would be fine, not bigger.
8-16gb should be enough, i don´t need to store much on it.

this tablet goes into my backpack and i will use this tablet only with my 6D & WIFI.

so a good strong WIFI connection and a nice display is all i need.
speed should be decent for using the eos remote app.

any advice what to buy?

is the nexus7 the best option?
or is there a cheaper alternative for me?

Technical Support / exposure issue i don´t understand
« on: April 10, 2013, 09:07:31 AM »
first im not a total photography noob but this is the first time i noticed this.

i thought when i have two different lenses and i shot them at the same settings i will get the same exposure (or nearly the same).

today i was shooting with my friends 550D and my tamron 90mm lens at 1/50s at f5 (iso 800).
then i shot the same motive with the 18-55kit lens at 1/50s at f5.

i shot a simple test to demonstrate it. this is the result:

it´s a backlight situation.
light did not change. camera was set to manual.

why is the exposure so different?

the tamron 90mm macro behaves the same on my new 6D.
with exactly the same settings the tamron 90mm macro is much brighter then lets say may EF 100mm.

i never noticed this before.   ???

it´s a bit confusing, there are so many kenko models... and then there are even colored dots that seperate the models further... i don´t know what to buy.  ::)

please help. :)

i want to use the 1.4x TC with my 90mm tamron macro and the 70-200mm F4 IS on my 7D and 6D.

and i want the best image quality.

ps:
i don´t want the protruting element on the canon TC, i maybe want to use the TC one day on other lenses too,  so it´s kenko for me.

Software & Accessories / Program like GEOSETTER?
« on: March 28, 2013, 08:21:58 AM »
first, i like geosetter a lot.. but it´s afwull slow with 16 bit TIF files.
it works fine with JPG´s but is a snail when working with TIF files.

for a folder with 200-300 TIF files it needs ages to create/display the thumbnails (i7 2600k@4500 MHz, 24 GB ram, 250 GB Samsung SSD).

i have talked to the author a while ago and it seems that will not change, as the display engine  he uses is not coded by him.
it´s really sad that it takes so long, especially as my TIF files have thumbnails included already.

so is there a program that is as good as geosetter but faster displaying images?

this question is for those who know geosetter and what it can do.
please don´t recommend some crap GPS tagging tool that has not even 30% of geosetters features. ;)

i read a lot about how bad cokin filters (*) are and i ask myself how bad are they in reality.
i mean, normaly things are blown out of proportion on internet forums. :)

but i have seen no side by side comparison of the different filters yet.

is there a website that shows the same landscape images (full size would be great) shot with different ND GRAD filters?

(*) so there is no need to repeat that discussion here. ;)

im thinkig of buying a second flash.
a Yongnuo YN-560 II or YN-565.

i have a 430 EX II and i want/need a second flash.

has someone really put the yongnuo flashes to the test?
i mean on a real shoot that stresses the flash.

should i go fore a cheap one or better stick to canon?

ps: i shoot manual, not ETTL, most of the time.

i need a new monitor.
i looked for month while my old samsung monitor gets worse and worse because of aging.

i read a lot good things about the DELL 2713HM and also a lot of worse.
the worse was some noise when text is displayed and bad luminance uniformity that some models show (the 2713H was said is worse in that regard).

anyway for 500 euro (the maximum im willing to pay) it seems to be the best 27" monitor so far.
i want 27" and high resolution because i do a lot of 3D work and need the screen space.
i know the 2713H is just released, but it´s 300 euro more and i don´t want to pay that.

my question is... how important is wide gamut for you?
makes it such a great difference when working with photos?
i have no idea because i never used a wide gamut display.

i don´t work for the web. all my stuff is for video output or print (i have a epson r2880).

anyone here who has a DELL 2713HM and want to share his experience?

Technical Support / Teleconverter and DOF
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:13:05 AM »
im still kind of a noob.. so is there a website or can someone explain what happens in terms of DOF when i use a teleconverter?

i know i lose 1 or 2 stops of light but what about DOF?

lets say i have a EF 100mm f2 and i attach a kenko 1.4 teleconverter.

Technical Support / at what shutter speed you turn IS off?
« on: January 25, 2013, 05:41:39 AM »
??

i turn it off whenever i go above 1/250s.

i once read that it has a negative effect for faster shutter speeds.. is that still the case with newer IS versions?

Lenses / 70-200mm f4 IS + 1.4 TC or 300mm F4 IS?
« on: January 17, 2013, 05:54:17 AM »
i have the 70-200mm F4 IS but i feel the need for more reach lately.

has someone example pictures (same motive) for the 70-200mm f4 IS + 1.4 TC combination versus the 300mm F4 IS?

i know i lose a F-stop and the reach is not exactly the same.

im just a hobbyist but i care about IQ.
i just don´t know if i "must have" the 300mm F4 or if a TC would be enough.

example images would help me make a decision.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1D X FPS limiting factor?
« on: December 28, 2012, 04:15:38 PM »
what is limiting the maximum FPS for the 1D X?

is it the bandwith/processing power of the DIGIC5+ CPU´s?

or is it the mechanical shutter construction?

could a dual digic 5+ powered camera deliver 10 FPS for a 21-24MP sensor?
