Software & Accessories / my first zeiss glass
« on: November 09, 2014, 10:04:54 AM »
hope you don't mind this post, but I'm simply too happy about it not to mention

recently I bought myself a present for my B-day
however it's not a lens, but binoculars from zeiss  :)
to be precise this one
zeiss conquest hd 8x42

I posted it accesories thread since it was meant for wildlife spotting, I'm really happy with build and also optical quality and I highly recommend it to anyone who's in need for something similar. I tried it also in sunset and in really dark conditions and resolution and clarity is simply superb.

From now on I am happy zeiss customer  ;) :)

Photography Technique / uneven polarization
« on: November 09, 2014, 09:55:44 AM »
Hi guys,
on my last trips to mountains I encountered some uneven polarization effect. I was wondering, is there any way how to use polarizer and prevent from this effect? Or do you merge more shots to handle it in post processing?

I have heard many opinions that this effect should be more visible with focal length of 24mm and shorter, but I've seen it in some of my shots with FL longer then 70mm (even in some 200mm shots), am I doing something wrong?

Lenses / missing reviews of 400mm f/4 DO IS II
« on: October 30, 2014, 08:34:26 AM »
There were lot of preproduction reviews of 7D mk II, but I'm really missing some more info about 400 DO II. It looks like a very interesting lens and I couldn't find any other info except introduction and short overview here

Am I missing something? Is it too soon for reviews? Or am I the only one interested in some sample images if not whole reviews?

Software & Accessories / pelican case 1200 for 5D mk III?
« on: September 07, 2014, 03:16:52 PM »
I have one very simple question, will it fit? Maybe with some other lenses?
I read some reviews about fitting 60D + some (three) lenses, but the case seems too small to do that.
Anyone any experiences? Thoughts? Alternative solutions? :)

Background is, I'd like to have some waterproof/shockproof case for my camera, since I'm planning trip to Thailand soon...

Lenses / wide angle needed
« on: September 05, 2014, 08:58:09 AM »
hi gyus, straight to my problem, recently I found I'm missing some nice UWA lens...

my requirements are:

  • nice build quality
  • focal length somewhere between 15 - 20mm (the wider the better)
  • AF is not necessary - but at least focus confirmation would be nice
  • sharp
  • price - the lower the better (but it doesn't mean 15mm Zeiss is not an option)
  • weigth - again the lower the better, it's intended for travel use

Hi,
I was thinking about some nice and useful photoshop & lightroom plugins, addons and presets

I think they deserve thread here in post-processing section.  :)

I personally tried nik collection - very nice for monochrome, but haven't used it much for color shots.

Software & Accessories / neoprene cover for 5DmkIII
« on: August 08, 2014, 04:07:13 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm looking for some nice neoprene cover for 5D mark III (body only) and lenses 24-70 and 70-200 (also separate). What I expect it to have nice fit and to provide layer of padding when my body/lenses is in my bag. Even better would be, if there is some kind of water resistance provided.

Any ideas?

Photography Technique / 5D III delete RAW+JPEG
« on: July 30, 2014, 12:58:17 PM »
Last weekend I used for the first time the option to simultaneously record RAW to CF card and JPEG to SD card on my 5D mk. III, it worked as expected however I found one thing when deleting shots I didn't like.

After quick review I decided to delete some shots, everything seemed ok, pictures weren't shown when browsing shots on camera, but then I realised only RAW shots were deleted and JPEG shots remained untouched. It think this is bit inconvenient as I wanted to have same two sets one in RAW and one in JPEG. Basically I had to review JPEG set again after I removed CF card from camera.

Is there any way to set the body to delete image from both cards simultaneously?

Thank you

EOS Bodies - For Stills / EDC gear
« on: June 05, 2014, 03:31:21 PM »
I was wondering, do you always carry your dlsr with you? Or do you have some portable mirrorless/PoS setup?

If yes then please share photos/description of your optimal backpack setup. I would like to get bit inspired what is obsolete and what is necessary and why  ::)

Photography Technique / learn canon
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:13:19 AM »
After reading lot of interesting stuff here and all over the rest of internet I decided to start new twitter account. It's focussed mainly on canon stuff, but there will also be some general photography stuff.

My motivation is to share knowledge. Sometimes even experience users (except neuro  ;D ) can find something he/she does not know how to work. Canonrumors is great source of knowledge, but it takes bit of digging to find the right post with interesting stuff.

I'll try to pick the good and interesting ones, for all kind of camera users, but dslr will be preferred. So, if you are interested then don't hesitate and follow  ;)

PS: please, share your opinions, critique or maybe post links if you know some great stuff on internet and I'll share them

Lenses / so finally
« on: May 07, 2014, 12:56:37 PM »
Yesterday I went to our local shop to get some advice regarding my 60D and some minor scratches (barely visible) in viewfinder. I was bit concerned since I plan to sell it soon and these marks are lowering the resale value. The technician said it's not a reason to replace viewfinder and noted if I haven't informed him, he would not know about it. So I was quite happy with result.

But, why I am telling you this story? This whole trip ended up the "worst" way it could (in my situation) and now I am owner of shiny new 70-200L II, smiling satisfied and my wallet is being 2K lighter (ok, I'll get 250 back due to canon cashback).

It's my first white and today I completed my dream set of 5D mk III + 24-70 mk II + 70-200 mk II + 100L
Thank you all guys for all advices, useful links and opinions.

Landscape / Mountains and city
« on: March 25, 2014, 08:40:22 AM »
Hi guys,
I'd like to share links to four galleries of photos submitted for festival 'Hory a Mesto' (in translation Mountains and city) organized in Bratislava, Slovakia, devoted to all outdoor enthusiasts. Today I was browsing in these galleries and realized there are lots of great photos nobody (or almost nobody) voted for.

That's why I'm asking you guys, if you have time, feel free to view some nice images and also to vote. I think it would be nice and more objective for competition if you - photographers share your opinions and votes. Right now it seems only everyones FB friends voted.

There are four galleries

I'm sorry, it seem that whole page is only in slovak, but I think you can still enjoy photos and use star rating  ;)

Disclaimer: I hope I'm not breaching some forums rules, if yes, please remove this post. I'm not organizing the event and I have completely no connection to it except of interest in photography. To be fair, I submitted two photos for this competition.

Software & Accessories / another B+W filter question
« on: December 16, 2013, 09:58:44 AM »
Hi all,
last week I received package with my new B+W 82mm polarizer kaeseman filter. Yesterday I finally had opportunity to test it and I was really happy about results. What made me even more happy was the fact that this filter was really easy to clean (I accidentally touched the glass). All my previous UV (protective) filters were Hoya and it is pain in the ass to clean them.

So I was thinking about buying some of B+W filters for protection, but now comes the question, do I need UV (010M) or just clear (007M) MRC filter?
I bought the polarizer because of your advises and your satisfaction, so maybe you can help a little bit here too ;)

btw: what about B+W 82mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter? Bit expensive, but I could find it useful in landscape photography... (right now I have only 5stop Schneider, which seems to soften the images produced a little bit)
