EOS Bodies - For Stills / EDC gear

I was wondering, do you always carry your dlsr with you? Or do you have some portable mirrorless/PoS setup?

If yes then please share photos/description of your optimal backpack setup. I would like to get bit inspired what is obsolete and what is necessary and why  ::)

Photography Technique / learn canon
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:13:19 AM »
After reading lot of interesting stuff here and all over the rest of internet I decided to start new twitter account. It's focussed mainly on canon stuff, but there will also be some general photography stuff.

My motivation is to share knowledge. Sometimes even experience users (except neuro  ;D ) can find something he/she does not know how to work. Canonrumors is great source of knowledge, but it takes bit of digging to find the right post with interesting stuff.

I'll try to pick the good and interesting ones, for all kind of camera users, but dslr will be preferred. So, if you are interested then don't hesitate and follow  ;)

PS: please, share your opinions, critique or maybe post links if you know some great stuff on internet and I'll share them

Lenses / so finally
« on: May 07, 2014, 12:56:37 PM »
Yesterday I went to our local shop to get some advice regarding my 60D and some minor scratches (barely visible) in viewfinder. I was bit concerned since I plan to sell it soon and these marks are lowering the resale value. The technician said it's not a reason to replace viewfinder and noted if I haven't informed him, he would not know about it. So I was quite happy with result.

But, why I am telling you this story? This whole trip ended up the "worst" way it could (in my situation) and now I am owner of shiny new 70-200L II, smiling satisfied and my wallet is being 2K lighter (ok, I'll get 250 back due to canon cashback).

It's my first white and today I completed my dream set of 5D mk III + 24-70 mk II + 70-200 mk II + 100L
Thank you all guys for all advices, useful links and opinions.

Landscape / Mountains and city
« on: March 25, 2014, 08:40:22 AM »
Hi guys,
I'd like to share links to four galleries of photos submitted for festival 'Hory a Mesto' (in translation Mountains and city) organized in Bratislava, Slovakia, devoted to all outdoor enthusiasts. Today I was browsing in these galleries and realized there are lots of great photos nobody (or almost nobody) voted for.

That's why I'm asking you guys, if you have time, feel free to view some nice images and also to vote. I think it would be nice and more objective for competition if you - photographers share your opinions and votes. Right now it seems only everyones FB friends voted.

There are four galleries

I'm sorry, it seem that whole page is only in slovak, but I think you can still enjoy photos and use star rating  ;)

Disclaimer: I hope I'm not breaching some forums rules, if yes, please remove this post. I'm not organizing the event and I have completely no connection to it except of interest in photography. To be fair, I submitted two photos for this competition.

Here are some of my first photos, I hope you like them as much as I do  :)

Software & Accessories / another B+W filter question
« on: December 16, 2013, 09:58:44 AM »
Hi all,
last week I received package with my new B+W 82mm polarizer kaeseman filter. Yesterday I finally had opportunity to test it and I was really happy about results. What made me even more happy was the fact that this filter was really easy to clean (I accidentally touched the glass). All my previous UV (protective) filters were Hoya and it is pain in the ass to clean them.

So I was thinking about buying some of B+W filters for protection, but now comes the question, do I need UV (010M) or just clear (007M) MRC filter?
I bought the polarizer because of your advises and your satisfaction, so maybe you can help a little bit here too ;)

btw: what about B+W 82mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter? Bit expensive, but I could find it useful in landscape photography... (right now I have only 5stop Schneider, which seems to soften the images produced a little bit)

Landscape / yellowstone and teton panoramas
« on: December 07, 2013, 04:20:00 PM »
On the end of last september I had the opportunity to visit grand teton and yellowstone national park. Both are great and place I want to visit at least once more again. Although we were in park only for day and half (we arrived in the evening and then had one whole day and then government shutdown), I took many shots and I am very happy.
Please have a look on some panoramas I made, comment if you like them or point out things you don't like. Most of them are only handheld between 3 and 12 shots. All of them are made with 60D + 24-70mkII in Av mode. First the weather was terrible, but in the afternoon sun started to shine. Excuse me, some panoramas are already uploaded in other topics, but I thought to have them together is bit better  ::)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Magiclantern + Shutter fail on 60D
« on: October 22, 2013, 09:16:15 AM »
Hi,
one strange thing happened to me while travelling US. I have 60D with upgraded firmware to newest version (1.1.1) and I'm using magic lantern (1.1.1-ml-v2.3)
Everything worked fine up to the moment all my memory cards were full and I had to buy and use the new one (16GB SanDisc Extreme). After that camera started to behave very strange, sometimes it just won't trigger shutter, just lock up mirror and let is locked for 30s (I tried to "take a shot" without lens to see whats happening). And no file was added on the card (I was expecting at least the just black frame)

After restarting the camera few times and also removing the battery this behavior continued. Then I realized it could be software issue, because camera worked fine in life view mode (Av, Tv, P, M modes were not working). As the next step I tried to switch to another card, to see if it's not somehow card related. After putting full card WITH magic lantern files the camera went live again and everything worked fine.  ???

When I switched the cards again, camera still worked fine (so no permanent issue), but I this situation happend 2-3 more times and every time using card with magic lantern helped to "unlock" the shutter. I also have to tell that only the new never used cards triggered this behavior.

FYI only - maybe might help someone.
Did it happened to someone else here?

Edit: added firmware versions

Lenses / lens vs. body
« on: August 07, 2013, 11:00:01 AM »
Hi all,
in a few weeks I'll be travelling to US, we are planning to have a road trip starting in NY. And I'm thinking about upgrading my gear (since EU lens prices are insane).
So what's the point? I can't decide between 5D mkIII and 70-200mkII and right now I don't have money for both. I already had opportunity to take few shots with 5D mkIII + 24-70mkII and 60D + 70-200mkII and both have their advantages and both combinations made me go WOW :o
I'm also open to other options (maybe sigma 35 + canon 135?)
Right now I'm more into new lens than body, but not yet 100% sure...I'll be traveling, and probably can't order online and wait for delivery, so it will be nice to have some info from guys living in NY where some good brick and mortar shops are, I want to buy in NY or maybe D.C. so I can use gear for whole trip.
Thanks for advices, opinions and maybe other info.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 35mm film body
« on: June 30, 2013, 12:23:33 PM »
Hi,
few past weeks I started to think about nice older body for 35mm film. Unfortunately I have no idea where to start, or what to be aware of and I found lot of them really cheap on ebay ::)
Right now I have only one requirement - EF mount, so I can use my current lenses...

Any ideas and advices are welcome.
Thanks
