Software & Accessories / Camranger, anyone used for stills or video?
« on: December 18, 2012, 08:20:51 PM »
It looks like http://camranger.com is selling a $300 bit of hardware that'll effectively allow you to control virtually all features of newer EOS bodies from an iPod, iPhone, or iPad through wifi with NO COMPUTER in the middle of things ... and they claim up to 150 feet of range.  It sounds pretty great to me, possibly too good to be true, especially since they have enabled the video control (which Canon has crippled on their wi-fi options for the 6D, 5Dii & iii - at least for now).

Has anyone here tried it yet and can offer pros and cons?

Thanks, in advance!

EOS Bodies / 6D wi-fi controlling video?
« on: December 01, 2012, 07:21:03 PM »
Has anyone tested out the Wi-Fi on the 6D shooting video using a remote device to control the camera?

I've seen mixed things about it here, one poster suggested that it's disabled based on a minor comment in the manual.  And I couldn't find anything in the manual which indicated how to start and stop video, etc with the mobile app.  There's one 'hands on' youtube clip that claims this works both in the comments and the guy at the trade show, but it's not demonstrated.

Of course this would be an incredibly useful feature, allowing use of an iPhone or better yet an iPad as an off-camera monitor and controller.  With the EOS Utility of course you can control the video, and it looks like the mobile app is built very much the same way ... but I'd really like to hear from someone who has the camera in hand who can vouch for it being possible or not.

Thanks!

Software & Accessories / DSLR Controller remote control of EOS bodies
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:45:53 PM »
Does anyone have experience shooting with any EOS body using "DSLR Controller" which allows an android device to do damn near anything EOS Utility does?  I'm especially interested in shooting video with it (on a 5dii and T3i) as it may allow tablets to be used as cheap off camera monitors.

And if someone has good inside info, any predictions about when the iPad/Pod/Phone version will emerge?

Thanks!
