EOS Bodies - For Stills / Black blob problem

Ok here is the issue, whenever I do a studio shoot and the subject is wearing black (regardless of the back ground color) the photo shows just a black blob unless i turn up the exposure in post which just makes the black more grey.

How do I get the photo to show the detail in dark black clothing?

Is this a dynamic range limitation?

Lenses / Which Lens Canon 85mm 1.8 or 135 L

Situation is I have a tight studio, reach on the 135 might be tight, but the optics are probably superior.

Want an 85 1.2 but can't really afford it. The 1.8 might be a good compromise based on price, smaller reach for tighter spaces, I kind of think 440 might be much when the 50 1.8 is $100.

Is it a business decision (ie dont want to canabalize the prime market) or a technical limitation (physically can't do it with current tech) or cost issue (technical difficulties would require that the lens be priced too high for target market)?

EOS Bodies / Canon 450D user looking to upgrade to 6D, but the D600's price is real tempting

a few weeks ago I tested a D600 against a 7D at a costco, and the pics came out really bad (skin tones were inaccurate, and it looked overexposed), but today tried it again and it was much better. At under $2k for a bundle thats a fantastic deal. Will Canon adjust prices before Christmas?
