Must be clearing stock.

Figured I'd post it in case anyone is in the market for a P&S for an insanely good price.

Lenses / Canon 17-40mm & ND filter
« on: January 15, 2014, 09:07:27 PM »
I was wondering if anyone out there is using a Canon 17-40mm lens with a high (i.e. 10 stop) ND filter. I'm thinking of building a small set of 82mm ND filters (separate, not variable - probably a 4 and a 10 stop to start with) along with step rings so I can use it on all my glass.

I guess the question is two-fold:
Is anyone using strong ND filters with this lens and do you see any vignetting on the 17mm end?
Any ramifications to using an 82mm ND filter and step ring to put it on the 77mm thread of the 17-40 lens?

TIA for any info.

Third Party Manufacturers / Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 2x DGX, and 5D Mk III
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:36:42 PM »
I'm looking at using a Kenko 2x Teleplus Pro 300 DGX with two specific lenses on my 5D Mk III:

70-200 f/2.8 II
100L f/2.8 Macro

Two variables: possibly using extension tubes with the teleconverter and the 100L, either on my 5Dm3, or on my 60D (more for composition purposes on the 60D, with the understanding if I do that I'll lose IQ over just cropping into a 5Dm3 shot - can't crop with my eyes when taking the shot though).

I've read a lot about issues with the 5D3 and kenko converters though. Blue dots, green dots, specific lenses, etc.

If anyone has recently purchased kenko teleconverters (the DGX 300) and is able to use them with all the above equipment (the 5d3 on latest firmware), please let me know.

EOS-M / 2.0.2 firmware and Magic Lantern

Has anyone been able to load ML on their 2.0.2 Eos-M? I need to record past the 30 minute video recording limit, but would like to retain the AF improvements of the 2.0.2 update.

Third Party Manufacturers / Sigma 50mm 1.4 AF issues question
« on: April 26, 2013, 10:56:37 AM »
So I'm in the market for a 50mm 1.4 (I cannot justify the additional cost of the 1.2L for what I'm doing, no matter how much I'd love to get it) after running into AF issues with a Canon 50mm 1.4.  I have previously tried a Sigma 50mm 1.4 and LOVED how sharp it was at 1.4 - 2 (primarily where I would use it), but had major issues with a shifting depth of field and AF issues.

As I mentioned though, I loved the IQ on the Sigma. But I am wondering what the ratio of this lens having AF issues is, and for those who owned one and had AF issues: whether sending it in to Sigma definitively fixed the AF issues for the body you were using.

So two questions really, for those who own one of these:
If you own one, did you have AF issues out of the box?
If you did have AF issues, did sending it into Sigma fix it?

Lenses / Question about Canon 50mm 1.4 AF and AFMA
« on: April 19, 2013, 02:19:34 PM »
I am trying out a Canon 50mm 1.4 after having substantial problems with a shifting depth of field on a Sigma 50mm (which I loved in every other respect, it was definitely sharper than this canon in the 1.4 - 2.0 range.).

Trouble is, I'm seeing something with the Canon as well. Basically, if I am within about 8 feet from the focus subject, I get relatively good AF accuracy (allowing for some fluctuation).  But the second I hit 10 feet or so, I have to push AFMA to -10 or pretty much every shot is OOF.

Is this to be expected, or did I just get a bum copy? Would appreciate any input here, my return window is closing next week, if I need to get it exchanged or outright returned.

Software & Accessories / Transcend 64GB 1000x card speed
« on: March 28, 2013, 08:07:19 PM »
I looked everywhere for info on these but couldn't find any prior to buying, so in case anyone else has been looking for information on speed on these, I took a chance and bought one (had lots of good experiences with Transcend in the past), and could not be happier.  I paid $209 for it on amazon.

It is blazing fast.

Disabled anything that might slow 5D Mk III, put it on very high ISO to up shutter speed to 640, and started firing:

18/19 shot average on Large RAW using high speed (6 fps) continuous before the shutter started to stutter.
Went over 200 on Large RAW on silent continuous (3 fps) before giving up on it stuttering.
Went over 230 on Large Jpeg on high speed continuous before giving up on it stuttering.

Using an external USB 3 Sandisk imagemate card reader, it took 24 seconds to transfer 1.91GB from CF to my hard drive.

EOS Bodies / 5D Mk III customization question
« on: January 10, 2013, 06:05:17 PM »
I may eventually get to this answer on my own (reading the manual and a couple of other documents/books on the 5D Mk III) but have an event next week and am trying to figure out what the fastest way to change manual flash output level from the camera is (i.e. 1/1 - 1/128).

I tried the Flash exposure adjustment (doubles with the ISO button then use the quick dial) but that only affects TTL flash, not the manual setting. So far, if I want manual flash and adjust my light output from the camera, I have to go to external speedlite control. Quickest method of getting to that I've found is assigning it to the top slot in My Menu.

Is there a way of assigning a single button so I can jump directly into external speedlite control?

I am using a 5D Mk III, YN568EX and YN622c transceivers, if that matters.
