EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 5d Mark III Eyepiece cover
« on: August 01, 2012, 04:16:30 PM »
Does the 5d Mark III come with an eyepiece cover that you can cover up the viewfinder/eyepiece when taking a long exposure to prevent light from coming in?  I heard some have a eyepiece cover on the strap.

thanks.

EOS Bodies / 5D Mark III Tips, Tricks & Settings
« on: June 25, 2012, 07:53:19 PM »
I just wanted to start a thread for those who have any questions or comments on settings that they really like on the 5D Mark III.  I have seen the odd post on AF settings but that's about it.

Myself personally, I shoot mostly portraits, so I'm just using the 15 point set up with the base focus point and I am pretty happy with that set up.  The camera is pretty new so I haven't had a ton of time to experiment try out everything in the menu.  I did have limited to success with HDR modes.

I have heard of people reprogramming the depth-of-field button on the front of the camera to different functions, which I am definitely curious about.

Lenses / ND Filter system for landscape photography question
« on: June 17, 2012, 02:33:58 PM »
I am looking at getting a filter system for shooting landscapes.  I was looking at a Cokin filter holder.  I do not know too much about filters to be honest, other then the results look very nice.  I was also looking at Singh-Ray ND filters.  I was unsure what people recommend.  a 4 x 6 or a P series filter?
As well, I heard a good start is to get a 2 stop graduated filter.

Any advice for someone starting out in the filter department?

thanks!  :)

EOS Bodies / 5D Mark III vs 5D Mark II Raw Image Quality
« on: June 16, 2012, 11:43:07 PM »
I was wondering for those that actually own the 5d Mark II and III, is there a difference in image quality with RAW files around the lower ISO ranges (100-3200).  I have heard that they are the same quality?

EOS Bodies / We need a "Canon Whiners" Section!
« on: April 24, 2012, 12:55:05 PM »
We need to open a "Canon Whiners" section on CR so peopel will stop spamming the forum with the same boring threads.  Up until the 5d Mark III came along, you never really saw people complain too much other then the random forum banter, but since the release or close to the release, all I have seen is "It costs too much", "There aren't enough megapixels", "It's broken because of a light leak" and on and on...
It's ridiculous.  Enough already.  I understand it's a forum and people have the right to express their displeasure or beef with a product.  But writing another "this isn't an acceptle solution to the light leak" or some of the other issues.  IT is an electronic device.  It will have issues, in some cases.  Other then the odd case, I have not seen anyone show any evidence of a photograph ruined by a light leak.  If it is runing your photos, then return it, just like you would any piece of electronics.
It even relfects negatively on the community.  "Canon users are a bunch of whining babies" is what a friend of mine had to say when looking through the CR forum the other day.  Yes, he was a Nikon user :P  BUT, I really had no defence, as he was correct about a lot of people on this forum.  Posting the same complaints again and again.  I really get the feeling that a lot of people were holding out for the MKIII because it would make them a better photographer just by pressing the  button.   People are focusing more on the shortcomings or what it can't do, then going out and taking great photos.  If you owned a MKII, it is a better camera.  If you could take great pics with your 50D, it will take better pictures although there may be a learning curve.
I understand this is sort of hypocritical complaining about the complainers but I am hoping that maybe some people will realise how foolish and useless this is.  If you really have a beef with it, or you think it's terrible, do what one user was smart enough to do and write to Canon.  As posting it in a forum, will get you nowhere... I'm sure a lot of you think this is a ridiculous post.  I'm also pretty sure, you are the ones continulously posting or commenying on the same posts bashing Canon.  Get out there and use your camera and post some great pics...

EOS Bodies / 5D Mark III Recall Update?
« on: April 16, 2012, 11:55:34 AM »
Does anyone have an update on the status of the 5D Mark III in regards to it being recalled or the light leak issue being resolved?

I want to pick one up, but in my personal situation, if I'm going to spend $3800(CDN Price) for a camera, I do not want it having a light leak issue, regardless of whether people claim it is a small or unoticable issue.

I hadn't heard any recent news and thought I'd check to see if anyone knew anything further?

EOS Bodies / Canon 5DX still to come?
« on: March 03, 2012, 03:51:25 PM »
There has been a lot of talk over the past while about canon splitting the 5D line and having on camera geared towards photographers and one more towards videography.  I hear rumors of a 4K dslr.  Does anyone think that the line may be split and a 5DX is still around the corner as this is supposed to be a record year for Dslr announcements.

EOS Bodies / Canon 5d Mark III vs Nikon D800!!!
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:50:34 AM »
Now that we have a full list of specs for the 5D Mark III, which camera do you think is superior based on the spec lists?  The Canon 5d Mark III or the Nikon D800.   How do they measure up against each other(ie strengths and weaknesses in your opinion).  I understand that you have to take a camera out into the field and shoot with it and see the Raw images to be able to fully make a choice, so this is just for arguments sake based on the released specs.
