I am beta testing the new OSX for Mac: 10.10 Yosemite.

I did a few checks and found that the following software does NOT work:
1) EOS utility. Why am I not surprised? This happened with previous OS X upgrades as well
2) X Rite Colormunki Photo does not install. I reported this and X Rite promised that they are working on an upgrade

I know that a lot of us EOS Utility for tethered shooting, hence the warning

I use a 1DX with WFT-E6 for still photography and it works fine.

Today I made video with the Rode VideoMic Pro plugged straight into the camera and used the EOS Utility to change camera settings and did a bit of recording.
At editing time I noticed that there is a clicking noise on the audio, about two clicks/second.
I removed the WFT-E6 from 1DX, reshot and the clicking noise is gone

Has anybody experienced this as well?

it most likely will not work, but it would be great to have an EVF for the EOS M?

What do you think?

Software & Accessories / Will the new MAC Pro support 10 bit colour?
« on: November 06, 2013, 05:35:40 AM »
The new Mac Pro will have dual AMD Firepro Graphics cards.
Does this open up the possibility of supporting 10 bit colour or is the MAC OSX Mavericks operating system still the bottleneck?

I ask this because I intend to spend $$$$ on an Eizo CG267 and a new Mac pro once it will be out in December

Lenses / green color cast with hoya 82 mm UV & IR filter on 16-35
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:35:18 AM »

I am rather disappointed with the HOYA 82 UV IR filter on the 16-35. There is a very clear green color cast in the corners.

The slim UV filter that I have as well does NOT have this problem.

At 205$, this hurts.

Settings, 16-35 F2.8 L @16 mm, 1DX, F2.8, iso 250, 1/6400.

Stopping down helps, but even at F9.0 it is still visible

does anybody have experience with the Manfrotto MVR911ECCN electronic remote?
Although it might be a good idea to use a "tethered" system for focusing, I am worried that the noise of the USM motors will be picked up, even with external microphones?

Furthermore, is the focusing accurate and fast?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Does GP-E1 influence IS ?
« on: October 10, 2012, 05:44:02 PM »

I have noticed something strange. 1DX, GP-E1, 70-200 II with 2X.

I had the camera at a 45 degree angle, so half way between landscape and portrait, the IS system was making noisy and I was unable to auto focus.
I switched the camera off , back on again --> everything fine, up to about an hour later when I was pointing upward to take a shot of a bird high in tree.

It looks like that at certain angles ~ 45 degrees the GP-E1 gets confused.

I tried without the GP-E1 and I am unable to reproduce the "problem"

My questions:
1) has anybody had the same problem?
2) is the GP-E1 info used for IS?

This is a minor problem, just switch camera off on and it is solved. I am just curious?

Technical Support / 1DX, ethernet on MAC
« on: August 01, 2012, 09:46:31 AM »

I have tried to setup an ethernet (RJ-45) connection between my 1DX and my MAC (lion). So far I have been unsuccessful.
I have tried both the FTP and EOSUtility options (2.11.4). My MAC clearly recognises the camera and assigns an IP address on the fly.
I am using the recommended cable a cat 6 twisted pair
Has anybody tried this?

Third Party Manufacturers / Kenko lens2scope
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:36:58 PM »

does anybody have experience with LENS2SCOPE? Does it have autofocus (HAHA)?

Anyway, this little gadget has the potential to give a new life to my "old" tele lenses, even if the image quality is far from superior.
