Reviews / what utter crap this is.... samyang 24mm TS
« on: June 03, 2013, 03:35:22 PM »

While I'm sure that marketing can put the right spin on this statement to make it factual even without the word "may" being included, but that word shows some wishful thinking. And from an image quality perspective, wishful is about as far as this lens goes – unless you stop down to at least f/5.6 or f/8.

With a wide open aperture, the Samyang 24mm f/3.5 Tilt-Shift Lens delivers blurry image quality. It's just ugly. Do not plan on using this lens at any aperture wider than f/5.6, or better yet, f/8 (especially for full frame corners image quality). Use the "Image Quality" tool link at the top of this page to see the lab test results for yourself.

over 900 euro and such a bad image quality?

who thinks we will see 3 new DSLR´s this week?

and who really thinks the T5i will have a new sensor?   ;D ;D ;D ;D

One of the big stories in the business world today was that Nikon’s stock took a historic fall of nearly 19%. The company is weighted so heavily in the Nikkei Stock Average that the news had a rippling effect across the market, causing most Asian shares to drop.
Businessweek writes that the price drop was the largest single day decline in Nikon’s stock since 1985. It happened after the company cut its profit forecast due to decreasing demand and plummeting prices.
For the fiscal year ending in March, Nikon now predicts that it will pull in roughly $407 million in net income, down from the ~$643 million it had previously forecast.

Nikon expects to sell 7 million DSLR cameras (down from its previous forecast of 7.1M) and 9.8 million lenses (down from 10M). Its forecast for compact camera sales remains unchanged at 17 million units.

Both DSLRs and compact cameras are losing ground as consumers turn to smartphones and mirrorless cameras
The company also paints a picture of how the digital camera market is currently doing. It says that demand for entry-level DSLRs is falling and that new entrants in the market are competing against the camera style. This naturally leads to falling prices as DSLR makers struggle to convince photographers not to purchase mirrorless cameras.
Canon and Nikon have both been slow to engage the mirrorless camera market, which has led to both companies being squeeze from both sides. Their compact camera sales are struggling due to the rise of smartphoneography, and now mirrorless cameras are chipping away at their DSLR dominance.

TOKYO – Japan’s Canon Inc posted a 17.9 percent drop in quarterly operating profit on Wednesday, hurt by a strong yen and weaker demand for compact cameras as consumers switched to smartphones.

Canon says sales in China down more than 30 percent in 2012
TOKYO – Canon Inc said on Wednesday that its sales in China fell more than 30 percent in the year to December 2012, more than it had expected, due to a slowdown in that country and a territorial dispute between Tokyo and Beijing.

PowerShot / Phones better then Canons Compact Cameras
« on: October 10, 2012, 03:03:49 PM »
at least in DXO´s video benchmark.....

so when canon cameras have such bad sensors.... why not including a phone and make them worth the money?   ;D

GPS and WIFI is already there.... touchscreen from the 650D.... and finished is the 6D MK2 with included mobile phone..... hey i might even buy one then.....  :)

EOS Bodies / mhm... open letter to canon?
« on: September 25, 2012, 06:50:57 PM »
with all the complains about canons 6D autofocus why is no website, that cares about canon in one way or the other, writing an open letter to canon... demanding a statement?

i mean.... dpreview wrote it´s a rather dissapointing camera and i have yet to read a preview that is not puzzled by the low-tech AF.

if we complain here in a forum .. canon cares a sh*t.

but if a popular and frequented website writes something and is not afraid to tell the truth... maybe canon will take notice and feel obligated to react?

or maybe it´s to late here and im just bored and tired.....

EOS Bodies / 6D Sensor... why?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:23:21 AM »
can someone explain why the 6D has a new developed 20.2 MP sensor?

i mean, im tottaly puzzled why a new sensor?

if it would be a hybrid sensor.. ok.... but it´s not.
so why making another sensor an not using the 5D MK3 sensor?

i mean, it has to be more expensive to R&D yet another FF sensor then using and producing a existing sensor?

EOS Bodies / will we see a entry level FF camera from canon at photokina?
« on: September 03, 2012, 04:01:05 PM »
it´s awful quiet about canons rumored entry level FF.

nikon users at least have some photos of the body.

with photokina close at hand... i wonder if we see something from canon or not.

EOS Bodies / could the new EF-M mount support FF sensors too?
« on: July 23, 2012, 09:22:23 AM »
maybe a stupid question but could the new mount be used for FF sensor mirrorless cameras too?

i guess with current lenses the image circle fits only for aps-c.
but could it possible to use it for other lenses and a FF sensor.

i only wonder if canon thinks about the future here.
or if a future mirrorless FF camera would have a new lens mount again.

Canon General / future canon camera models
« on: June 08, 2012, 07:20:10 AM »
i was just thinking about the latest canon cameras and future cameras while walking with my dog.

i think it´s safe to say that the 2012 canon cameras are not that exciting when it comes to sensor technology.

it seems canon has decided to focus on the weak points (AF on the 5D MK3 for example) instead of improving what already is decent enough for 80% of all customers.

with the improved video and AF i wonder what the next generation will bring.
i mean can the AF be any better? noticeable better?
ok they can bring the 650D hybrid AF in the upper class bodys.

but to me it seems more and more difficult to enhance cameras enough to justify a new buy.
of course i speak from the view of an ambitious amateur (professionells will sure see this different).

for me the 5D MK3 is not such an exciting camera (i have the 5D MK2)
i do landscape, macro and studio stuff most of the time... so i don´t really need the better AF .
for sports i take my 7D because of the longer reach.

anyway.... my thoughts (hopes) are going in the direction that canon has improved everything around the sensor technology this time and in the next cycle they will focus/improve sensor technology. the 5D MK2 was a big step... not sure if we can see a huge jump in IQ these days.

but all i wish for my next canon camera is better low iso image quality.

what do you think/hope about future canon cameras?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mark 2 .... 250 euros up
« on: April 20, 2012, 10:48:30 AM »
i was ready to buy my second 5D Mark 2 (backup body) and just noticed that the price has raised from 1679 to 1929 at amazon.
i checked two weeks ago the last time.

and it´s not only amazon who raised the price.... it seems the 5D MK2 is still selling strong.

.... but i do remember someone wrote sony is a bigger company then canon and has more money for R&D.

he wrote canon had to fear sony, because sony has so much more money to spend on developing cameras.

well... he was obviously wrong and now look at this:

Kazuo Hirai, who took over as Sony's CEO this month, has said he is prepared to take "painful steps" to revive the company, insisting he would not hesitate to scale back or withdraw from businesses he deemed uncompetitive. He will lay out his revival strategy in more detail at a briefing scheduled for Thursday.

im curious what that means for sonys high-end camera business...

Lenses / Cokin and Lee .. supplies
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:24:01 PM »
hope it fits in here....

are there any news about cokin or lee?
for many month it´s very hard to get stuff from cokin or lee.

i read cokin was bought by kenko-tokina and hoped that the shortage will soon be a thing of the past.. but nothing changed.

my dealer has only a few cokin kits (stuff nobody buys) and can not even guess a date when he gets what he ordered from lee.

are there any news?

EOS Bodies / 7D Mk2 ..... APS-H
« on: January 26, 2012, 08:42:29 AM »
im just thinking here....

canon said it will not abandon the APS-H sensor format.

would it make sense for canon to put an APS-H sensor in the 7D MK2?

why or why not? what do you think?

i think what speaks against it is EF-S lenses....
but on the other side it would be a nice seperation from the XXD models.

the 70D could have better AF, better body construction etc.  (*) and the 7D MK2 would still have some edge.

"better" then the 60D, close to the 7D
