Hi !

I like playing around with B&W infrared photos using a Hoya R72 (or similar) infrared screw on filter and long exposures.

Since some cameras are better than others at shooting infrared without hardware modification, I wonder how does the Canon 5D3 fare ?

My original 5D Classic Mark I was ok (ish) ... Exposure times of approx 4 mins f11 at 100 iso in sunlight with R72.

The Canon 5D Mark II seemed to have a stronger internal IR filter making exposure times even longer and was less practical without hardware modification.

Is the 5D Mark III likely to have an even stronger internal IR filter that makes infrared photography almost impossible without hardware modification and removal of the standard factory fitted internal IR filter ?

Does anyone have experience with using UNMODIFIED Canon 5D3 and filters for infrared photography ?

Thanks in advance ...

EOS Bodies - For Stills / High Speed Flash Sync with Magic Lantern !
« on: June 03, 2013, 05:17:40 PM »
Hi guys ...

I've just posted this question on the Magic Lantern Forum too :

Basically, could Magic Lantern be enabled to allow high speed flash sync with outdoor fill flash ?

If the electronic shutter (in Live View Mode) is used instead of the standard focal plane shutter, could ML allow high speed sync with Canon portable guns at larger distances ?

Thoughts please ... and perhaps pass any useful comments on to ML thread too  ;D

Lenses / Leaf Shutter Lenses For Canon Dslr
« on: June 03, 2013, 03:11:10 PM »
Hi !

I used to have a 150mm (short telephoto) leaf shutter lens for my Mamiya 645. It was amazing - i could sync my fill flash outdoors at wide apertures and long distances.

Why don't Canon make such lenses ? They can't be any more specialist than Canon PC lenses and great for fashion / outdoor portrait work.

Any ideas ?

EOS Bodies / Thoughts on new high megapixel Canon DSLR ?
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:31:29 AM »
I'm a bit of a megapixel junkie and was disappointed in the megapixel spec of the Canon 1DX at just 18MP.

I was hoping to replace my Canon 1Ds Mark III but don't feel it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

1 ) Any thoughts on if and when a full frame high megapixel camera is likely to be released by Canon ?

Ideally i'd like it to be around 36MP - like the snazzy new Nikon D800.

2 ) When are the big trade shows this year ... and why do Canon seem to be so shy to release high MP cameras when they always used to be one step in front of Nikon ?

Thoughts and info will be of great interest ... Thanks  ;)
