Lenses / Lens purchase strategy
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:51:21 AM »
Hello all,

I imagine many of us are having a kind of strategy to purchase lenses that cover our needs for the shooting style we have. My approach was to get f/4 zooms (back problems) and combine them with fast primes for low light and better sharpness (even though latest f/2.8 zooms seem to nullify the latter) when needed. Then, probably some of us are basically going for more of a lens to lens evaluation for the purchases, considering + & - of getting in in addition to or replacing one or more lenses in the current lineup.

What is your approach and why?

Software & Accessories / CS2 free download?

Hello all,

As a fellow forum member figured, use of these programs might not be legal so links to sonyalpharumors and 43rumors are removed!

Software & Accessories / DxO optics pro (8)
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:11:58 PM »
Hello all,

I have been trying out Dxo optics pro 8 and found the lens correction part very nice - the contrast seem to decrease somehow with autocorrection though. Considering to purchase it but I have no experience on LR (or any other Adobe software) so I was wondering whether anyone could provide feedback whether DxO optics pro is a good option.

I have 2 OS, windows and linux and use darktable, raw therapee and gimp mainly.  Lens correction data I could locate for these programs mainly refer to distortion correction and is not as extensive as the DxO offering.

Any feedback will be appreciated..

Third Party Manufacturers / SLR-like raw shooting cam - suggestions?
« on: October 15, 2012, 05:11:19 PM »
Hello all,

I am considering to get a  bridge cam with raw shooting ability just to carry around when not having any intention to photograph (yep, missed a couple of shots lately as I did not have the 5D2 & co with me ::)). Versatiliy would be good so have been looking at lumix fz-200 as constant f/2.8 for a 25-600 equivalent zoom sounds handy also at the sx50hs but not sure how good the images from 1/2.33" (6.08 x 4.56 mm) sensors can be. Also cosidering large sensor compacts like the G1X but, as I mentioned,  a little more reach would be preferred. I am not very familiar with the products in these segments  so wanted to ask whether anyone has any suggestion/advice...

Hi all,

Rumors (SR3 app CR1,5  ;D) go at sonyalpharumors that another FF sony will be coming next summer. 36mp sensor same as D800 as well as another 50mp sensor are mentioned as potential sensors of this cam. Also it should have built-in grip according to

High end body and 50mp does give me the impression it would be aiming at the high mp Canon and the MF market...

Lenses / Resolving ability of the lenses
« on: October 07, 2012, 02:02:01 PM »
Hello all,

Curious whether there is any source where it is possible to find max resolving ability of the lenses. Considering that the higher the sensor resolution, the more demanding it is on the lens, how many lenses in the current Canon line-up will keep up with a 46mp sensor, I am wondering.

Hello all,

saw this over at nikon rumors, possibly the D600 announcement:

Photokina is coming eh? :)

Let's see if we get to see anything from Canon next week...

Hello all,

It looks like Canon is not the only one planning an entry level FF camera:

Third Party Manufacturers / Sigma SD1 - Foveon sensor
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:08:21 PM »
Hello all,

Has anyone any experience with the foveon X3 sensor? Had Sigma produced the camera in EF mount (not sure if it would be possible but still), I would consider giving  it a go... Wonder how the lenses cope with it though...
