EOS Bodies - For Video / 8K Sensor capable of 120fps.
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:13:25 PM »

I'm sure all of you are aware of DPreview, and if not, there is the link to the original article.
Does a sensor like this make anyone else drool? Don't get me wrong, I love photography but I shoot a lot of video and this sensor is just nuts. 8k video is an unreal resolution, lets slap one of those bad boys in a Canon body and see if that will shush the people begging for better video
. Just thought I would share the article with all of you as I found the concept very intriguing!

Japanese national broadcaster NHK has said it is developing a sensor capable of shooting 8k video at 120fps. It will be able to support the company's Super Hi-Vision standard of 7680x4320 pixels (generically known as UHDTV) which, at 33MP, is 16x higher resolution than current 1080 HD technology. The high-speed chip is being developed with Shizuoka University and was reported at the IEEE Internation Solid-State Circuit Conference currently taking place in San Francisco. (via The Verge)
UHDTV is expected to arrive in homes some time around 2020 (the first screens have been demoed) and a 60fps version will be used to show high-quality footage from the 2012 Olympics on a series of large screens around the UK.

Probably not what you expected! But the lenses are by Zeiss!
Very excited to have 1 of 4 pairs of these limited edition Platoon Goggles!

Needless to say, it handles CA very well and is tack sharp!

EOS Bodies - For Video / Your Ideal video setup
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:50:13 PM »
Alright, to start things off, I shoot snowboarding videos and I will be doing longboarding/other stuff like this as the year goes on. My question to you is what are must have lenses/bodies/accessories/other equipment for shooting video?
In an ideal world my setup would be:
7D (I like the burst rate as well because I shoot a lot of sports photography)
16-35mm F/2.8L
8-15mm L fisheye
70-200mm F/2.8 L
Glidecam HD 2000/4000 either one I've used both and they are basically the same.
A Camera Slider
A good Gitzo/Manfrotto/Slik Tripod with a smooth panning head.
Any sort of Shotgun microphone
A few different ND filters
Now, here's what I've got
60D (The articulate screen is actually nicer than I thought it would be)
8mm Rokinon fisheye (Optically excellent and build quality is second to none)
18-55mm kit
55-250mm EF-S
Crappy tripod
I'd like a waterproof housing but I'm going to wait until I upgrade bodies before I make that purchase.

I'm so excited!!! I just won these in a drawing! Only 4 pairs were made and I've got some! I'm just super stoked right now! I snowboard so this is a big money saver too, 200 bucks in my pocket for camera gear now

United States / If you could build your own DLSR...

How would you go about doing it? What special features would it have? What would you name it, for fun obviously.
Here is my dream DSLR (probably no where in the near future but man just think about it makes me giddy)
Canon EOS 4D (Just because there isn't one yet)
Price: Not sure, I'll let you be the judge, in a perfect world it would be around 1,000 bucks, but that's not going to happen haha.
Video:
4K video recording
High video framerate (max probably around 120~)
Dual/Triple Digic V (Probably would need more processing power pushing that much data for video)
Dual CF (XQD?) card slots
Full Frame Sensor (good for photos too)
Adjustable audio like the 60D
Photo:
Resolution ~20MP give or take 4 is fine with me
Average burst rate, 8fps is honestly fast enough for me
Good number of focus points, at least 20 cross type
100% coverage viewfinder
Misc:
I like all the port options on the 1D x, so those would be nice
I'd like to not have a vertical grip, more shaped like the 5D Mk II
Lastly I'd really really like a weather sealed, durable body. (unlike my 60D)
As you can see, I'm into filming video, but I like photography equally. So having the best of both would be awesome.

Site Information / Sub-Forum suggestion
« on: December 13, 2011, 08:27:27 PM »
I've looked through previous suggestions and I haven't seen any like this (my apologizes if I missed one).
Are there enough people that shoot video on their Canon DSLR's here to make a subforum for it? Or at least send me in the right direction as to where I should post mine. I mostly make sports edits (Snowboarding/skiing, Longboarding, wakeboarding, etc.).
