Canon General / Resources on bottle photography
« on: March 14, 2013, 05:21:54 PM »
Hi guys,

Does anyone have any good resources / links to information and tips on bottle image photography?

I am shooting wine bottles, and my current gear includes
- Light Tent
- 2 lamps
- Tripod
- Speedlite for fill

But help regarding better techniques would be great, as dealing with reflections and light bouncing off various parts of the bottle is tricky!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D MK iii - Help a n00b select AF modes

Hi guys,

In the hunt for becoming a better photographer, my new camera is bringing me all sorts of joys.

But, I am a little confused as to the general consensus of what AF mode to leave my camera in is best. I started using Single Point AF, then surround and even grid.. But I am unsure as what you guys use and whether or not there is a specific 'general' mode you leave it in?

Technical Support / Why won't mountain lion find my 5D3?
« on: February 24, 2013, 05:04:06 AM »
Hey guys,

Is it a known issue where mountain lion refuses to mount 5D3's? I plug it in, aperture does it's thing, but finder refuses to locate anything and hence if I want to remove all, or certain images, i'm left to do it on the camera..

Little tedious.. Is this just me? I installed the canon software, but EOS utility won't run anyway..

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D mk 3 2 quick questions

On mobile phone so will keep this brief as I can't find in manual:
1. Why does focusing sometimes flash AF point (av) sometimes not?

2. What is the process begins focus recomposing? Half press shutter on point, then keep half pressed while I frame and then click? Also what would be the point? If subject moves or if you want to use stronger AF points is my only guess.

Many thanks

Hi guys,

Been lurking for a few weeks now, gaining insights but need to ask for advice, as in 2 weeks i'll be taking the punt on a new 5D3 and I'm budgeting for around 2 lenses to go with it.

My uses: Predominantly hobby, but I will need it a lot of the time to shoot bottle image photography at work (which I have a light tent for).

I really, really like the look of the 50mm 1.2L. I love the creamy bokeh and amazing subject isolation. To complement this prime, I was looking at the 24-105 f4L due to it's good image quality, wide focal range and IS (I want to eventually shoot some vacation videos).

So, is this the zoom you would go for? I had looked at the 24-70 f.28 II but honestly I think with the 50 in my kit, id be at risk of selling myself short with just these 2 lenses to begin.

I understand that due to me upgrading from a Sony a350, and taking the most rapid crash photography course you'll find (I've gone from an ignorant to almost completely grasping the theory behind taking photos in about 4 weeks).

Advice welcomed.
