Software & Accessories / Do I really need to buy a Lee Pro Glass
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:50:46 AM »
Hi folks,

I like landscape shooting mostly and particularly flowing water or waves.

I have a Hoya pro HD circular polariser and a MRC 110 10 stopper by B+W.
For the likes of smooth flowing waterfall shots which I know the 10 stopper works for and the circ polarisor.

Is there any advantage in getting say a Lee .75 100mm pro glass filter? (I have the lee 100mm system)

I know it gives me more choices to use at certain f stops for a given DOF or indeed to operate my lense at its sharpest aperture.

But will it (pro glass .75) outperform the circ polariser in sharpness?
Will it outperform the 10 stopper in colour rendition (im guessing a yes to this.)

What do people often find themselves using or indeed find sharper, more natural etc for flowing water shots?

By the way as a note I have already .3 .6 .9 in Hard and Soft graduations (100x150mm) but these are resin based and I prefer to keep these for horizon line type shots i.e. sunsets as I suspect they might hinder focus details if covering the entire scene comapred to glass or indeed filterless.

Any pointers much appreciated,

Software & Accessories / Gloves for Photography
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:07:47 AM »
Hey folks!

Just curious for anyones reccomendations for Gloves when out in the field doing some photography.
I use a DSLR but not a touchscreen so I dont need capacitative and fingerless is an option if people think it aids in dexterity/usage when using the camera.
Temperatures down to 0C or so and I might be planning a trip to Iceland at some stage so any input in this regard is also appreciated.

Thanks in advance!,

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 5D MkIII - Bulb Mode on screen timer
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:41:40 AM »
Hi Folks,

Whilst on a club outing night shoot last night I noticed that the 5D MkIII does not display how long the shutter has been open when in Bulb mode on the Live view screen, is there an option to enable this?
Actually I didnt check the top display but im sure you wouldnt want to be pressing the top display backlight button either during long exposures.

I was recently having a laugh with a fellow club mate a nikon user and his Nikon didnt do this, what do I do now!   :-[   :P

The Canon 550D shows it why wouldnt a €3,400 DSLR have this? users im sure dont want to be faffing about in the dark with stop watches, phones etc etc.

Cheers for any help,

Canon General / One for Canon Europe - Canon Ireland or Canon Retailer
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:21:37 AM »
Maybe if Canon read the forums or a retailer could answer this one:

Prices in Europe for the Canon EOS 6d are pre-ordering at €1,999 why in Ireland are we 'EXPECTED' to pay €2,200?

I would appreciate a reasonable answer as this sort of pricing I hate to say deters me from buying in Ireland. and instead importing from e.g. Germany.

It cant be the VAT difference as Germany are on 19% i believe so the difference doesnt come to €200 more.

Lenses are also more.

Forgive my tone but it is annoying to say the least and not good for Retailers if this RRP pricing is governed by Canon.... anyone?

however if I was to walk into a Canon retailer in Germany and buy a 6D with say a 16-35mm L II
example from www.pixass.de as a random German Site also you can check www.idealo.de for same products:

These would cost €1,359 for the 16-35 L II and €1,999 for 6D Total €3,358 + shipping was <€20
Compared to a retailer in Ireland it would be €3,708 why is there a €340 odd euro difference this equates to a little over 9% price difference - so would a shop say ok so we'll take a bit of that if someone was to haggle a bit?
