Does anyone know if the AF problem has been resolved?  Seems from posts, here and elsewhere, up until early '12 there were still issues.  Curious if anything "official" has been announced?

Software & Accessories / Thoughts on DNG
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:03:22 AM »
I'm interested in folk's thoughts on Adobe's DNG...

Is there any loss of information converting back and forth from Canon's raw format?

Why is it really out there?  I mean, what are the odds that the Canon (or Nikon) raw format will really disappear (and Adobe won't)?  It makes some sense in light (hee, hee) of Kodak's recent demise, but for the big guys?

Should I let Lightroom convert all my raw images to DNG?

Lenses / Compare 70-300 vs. 70-200 with 1.4 iii

All other issues aside, how would you describe the IQ difference between these two setups (used mostly at the long end)?

Barely noticeable with pixel peeping? :)

Noticeable only on a large print or severe cropping? ;)

I can see it, but its not bad? :D

It's there but worth the $1000 difference? :(

I'm an idiot for thinking I could get away with the extender? >:(

EOS Bodies / AF question
« on: March 03, 2012, 05:21:01 PM »
Is AF more accurate/faster when using a better lens?  The lesser lens are often described as not as sharp, or good lens as soft wide open.

When using a good lens, does stopped down result in better AF performance?

Does using a lesser quality lens result in degraded AF performance?

EOS Bodies / 1D Mark IV versus 5D3
« on: March 02, 2012, 09:03:51 AM »
What would be better a used 1D Mark IV ($4000) or a 5D3?  I'd be really interested in people's reasoning with either choice.

EOS Bodies / Megapixels and such

OK, I have some questions for folks...

I've followed the discussions on MP's and was wondering.  If an image is framed the same and the print size is, say 8 x 10, and the image is not cropped, what is the advantage of high MP's versus not so high MP's.  Or put another way when do the image MP's exceed the printer's ability to take advantage them?  I've been taught that 300ppi is about the limit of printers (at least the one's I can access) so 8 x 10 x (300 x 300) = 7.2 MP.

I must be missing something, but I don't know what it is :-\

Yes, I am a rookie!!
