Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / 600EX-RT and Wattseconds - rating?
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:25:30 AM »
I am the happy owner of a few of the 600Ex-RT and an ST-E3-RT.

My wife keeps buggin me that there is not enough light in these "pocket-flashes" (her term) to do some serious portraits.

I beg to differ that this is of any importance, especially as I/we now use the 5DIII with a 100 Macro 2.8.

When i read that a monolight Elinchrom offers HUNDREDS of Ws when required, i wonder what a similar Ws-rating would be for the 600ex.

It's probably closer to a 60 watt bulb than a supertrooper.

Does anyone know?

Lenses / Cost breakdown of a lens EF & EF-S
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:59:18 AM »
I have been thinking about asking this for some time.

With the discussions about EF-S, M and Kit, Standard and L-Grade lenses i can't help but thinking what it actually cost to make a lens.

Some call it tear down, some COGS some...... Product Development is also a factor

Obviously material, volume and cost of production equipment matters a lot - written off over 8-10 years, but does someone actually know why a lens like the new 24-70 Mk II should cost 2.300 €/$/GBP versus the EF-S 17-55 ~1100 €$/GBP? are they really that far appart in cost?

Lenses / 24-105 - versions?
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:42:06 AM »
As i wait - still - for a 5DIII body (that has not been pulled out of a kit) i was wondering whether there is a reason to buy the kit - anyway. An escuse - if you like.

Is there anybody that knows whether the 24-105 that was introed 5-6 years ago is EXACTLY the same as is being sold today. Has there been any level of stealth improvement over the years?

I'm sure there could be a good conversation right there  8)

EOS Bodies / 5DIII in Deutschland
« on: April 03, 2012, 01:03:28 AM »

I am waiting....

Preordered mine a couple of weeks ago with one of the Canon premium partners, no news yet.... I am told I am one of the first 3.

Nothing on Amazon either.

Has anyone in Germany received theirs, curious!

Lenses / MegaPixel frenzy vs. Lens capability
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:48:55 AM »
I read through the last couple of days of back and fro on 5D"?" and the lust for MP.

Someone mentioned that there are "less than a handfull" of current Canon lenses that can handle 64MP (someones wild shot), which makes me think and ask:

What is the optimal (or even a sensible) MP resolution on a FF to fit/match the good 70-200-II or the 4LIS, the 100 2.8L Macro.

To me it would appear that a 5DII has a sensor resolution max of 3800 LW/PH (Source PZ Klaus Schroiff) and these 2-3 great pieces of optics does not use the "space" allowed. Is it because they can't

The only one I have seen that might, is the 24mm 1.4-L-II (Centre only), I assume the 300 2.8LII and it's bigger sister would maybe...

Do i read this LW/PH all wrong, are there other limitation (MP or lens)?

Is there a sensible stream on this topic already or does anyone have a technical answer - just to give me some solace, while i wait for Friday ::)
