Lenses / 1.4 lenses kwestion
« on: March 11, 2014, 05:56:53 AM »
I also wander, most 1.4 lenses are not very sharp at 1.4 and need to stop down to get sharp.

Why should I then consider such an expensive 1.4 lens, when a 2.8 variant (like the 24-70 2.8) has the same IQ at 2.8?

Lenses / How do you deal with lens reviews...
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:21:12 AM »
you read on the internet about lenses?

I am/was considering a UWA for my 5DmkII and have read reviews of the 17-40 (nice priced) and the 16-35II. Just for fun. I'm not a pro so spending my money is not based on earning money with the lenses.

When I read them, I get into doubts about to spend money on the lenses. Why.. well if I read the reviews on photozone, for both lenses they complain for ex. about corner sharpness. The 16-35 wide open should be also worse etc etc... There is always something worse.

Just thinking, how do you deal with...
what ever
those reviews?

EOS Bodies / 5DmkII + Magic Lantern question for ML users
« on: December 16, 2013, 08:34:01 AM »
I have a 5DmkII and found Magic Lantern on the net recently.
I think it could be a nice improvement but because it's not official supported, are there known stories of camera's died due to ML?

I've read it supports Auto ETTR. It sounds great to get the best image question but are you using it?
Does it really improve the IQ?

Why should I try ML for stills in your point of view?

Thanks in advance

I'm into a new tripod but the RRS and gitzo's are to expensive for the few times a year I want the use them. (I'm not a pro). Surfing the net, I've found carbon tripods from Sirui and Benro and they look nice stuff for the money.

I'm thinking about the Sirui N2204 or the Benro C2580T.
Has anyone experience with these brands and tripods?

Saterday I've bought a new macbook pro retina and now I want to move a LR4 catalog with pictures I'm working on from my windows PC to the mac. Is this possible without losing the work I've already done ?

If yes, what would be the best practice? The file locations will not match on the mac and via the network will be to slow.

If yes, do you think, the 300F4IS will fit into this one together with a 5DmkII + 24-105?

Software & Accessories / Markins Q10 ballhead
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:22:56 PM »
Anyone using this ballhead combined with a DSLR comparable with the Canon 5DmkII? I think is great.

I have this camera with maximum a 300F4IS + 1.4TCII and according the shop, this ballhead is great of this setup. But... I actually would like to have a small to pack (traveller idea) tripod but it's hard to deside.

I liked the benro C2681T but it can't be bought without the B1 ballhead and according to Benro, this ballhead can be to light. So buying the C2681T leaves me with a unusable ballhead.

Which tripod do you use or can you advise to work with the the Q10?

Or should I leave the idea to have a traveller (small to pack) tripod and go for something like the gitzo GT2541?

If you have any advise, it would be great.
