EOS Bodies - For Stills / Let's see your film shots
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:23:05 PM »
Hi all,

So the other day i picked up a second hand EOS 3 for a steal just so i could play around with shooting some 35mm film again. I love the aesthetic of film and the discipline that comes with shooting with it. The cost of processing and scanning 35mm in Australia is a little steep so every time i press the shutter it costs me 1.16AUD.

Here are a couple of test shots from a roll of Kodak Gold 200 that expired in 2007. If you've been recently shooting some 35mm lets see some of your shots.

cheers
Scott

Third Party Manufacturers / Point & Shoot?...
« on: May 15, 2012, 03:43:04 AM »
Hi gang,

I've spent the day researching point and shoot cameras as i want something a little smaller than my 5dii to carry around for social occasions (nights out on the town etc).

There are so many options out there it makes my head hurt but i've been looking at the following:
Fuji x100
Ricoh GR digital IV
Canon S100

What do you guys use when you can't be bothered lugging around your DSLR's?

cheers,
Scott

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about dumping all my Canon gear and joining the Nikon camp but after crunching all the numbers its simply isn't worth it for me. I have a 5dii, a collection of lenses and speedlites that i've amassed over the years and to sell it all and start again just seems crazy.

I know a lot of people on here are hurt to have to admit that Nikon has a "better" camera in the D800 but really, what would you do with that camera that you can't already do with your 5dii or iii?

What brought me back down from my i'm jumping to Nikon high was the fact that i have all the gear i need right now to cover (pretty much) every situation i encounter on my photographic endeavours.

I will be upgrading to a 5diii in the future (simply for the AF) when the price is right but for now, just because cameras like the D800 or 5Diii exist doesn't mean that my 5dii stops taking photos...

... now where's my 35mm 1.4L ii?  ;D

Third Party Manufacturers / Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 PRO FX
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:33:55 AM »
Hi all,

Has anybody got any user experience with the Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 PRO FX? The limited reviews i can find say its a pretty nice piece of glass. The fact that its half the price of the Canon 16-35mm f2.8L makes it sound like an UWA bargain.

If you've played with this lens let me know your thoughts...

cheers

Hi all,

So i'm very close to pulling the trigger and buying the 35mm f2 ZE the only thing i'm slightly hesitant about is the manual focus. I've been practising manually focusing with my 50mm 1.4 and i seem to have some successful shots and others that are totally unusable.
In your experience is it easier to focus the Zeiss due to its smooth focus ring or do you some times wish you bought the auto focus equivalent?.. for me that's the Canon 35mm 1.4L...

p.s I'm using a 5dmkii with precision focus screen.
