I wanted to check out the 40mm (primarily because of its "chic" looks) but already have the 50mm f/1.4. Just wondering whether the 40mm does anything that the 50mm does not with respect to IQ?

Hi,

I upgraded to the 5D3 this October and since then my 7D has been gathering dust. I thought that I would use it for birding pics with the 100-400 mm, however, I tried the 100-400 with the 5D3 today and found shooting to be considerably easier with the improved AF without any loss of IQ.

I also own the 70-200 f/4 non-IS. Now I am pondering whether I should sell the 7D and the 70-200 f/4, put in some more money and buy the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II. In the alternate, I could sell only the 7D and buy the 135L. Any suggestions?

I don't think that I'll need the 7D for any other purposes. Don't have any EFS glass so no downside there.

I normally do portraits, street photography and occasional landscapes.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5DM3 - Problems with tungsten lighting
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:41:36 PM »
Hi,

I was trying out my new 5DM3 late this evening and I notice strange color rendering in the pics. The color seems to change in every progressive shot.

Even more strangely, the problems seems be alleviated by stopping the lens down.

These were clicked with the 50mm lens at f/1.4 in low-speed continuous mode.

I've tried other combos with the 17-40 and the 24-105 on the 5DM3 and the problem is pretty much the same. I've also tried the 50mm on the 7D (again under tungsten light) and even the 7D seems to have a problem, though less so.

Is this normal? Any thoughts would be welcome ... I want to be sure that the camera doesn't have a problem.

PS: I've not yet tried this in daylight and propose to do this tomorrow morning
PPS: I don't rule out user error :-)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Autofocus Query
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:46:23 AM »
I'm just wondering as to what is the aperture at which Canon DSLRs do the AF (not considering LiveView). I've read somewhere that the AF is done using a f/5.6 aperture but am unable to confirm.

I've tried searching the net but am unable to dig deep enough to find an answer. Anyone have any information on this?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Area covered by an AF point

I've heard that the actual AF point area is larger than what appears as the rectangle in the viewfinder ... does anyone have any info what the actual difference is?

Lenses / Focusing problem while using 50mm 1.4 on 7D
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:10:26 PM »
Hi,

I am having a weird problem with autofocus using the 50mm 1.4 on the 7D. Autofocus using the viewfinder is resulting in the images suffering from substantial blur. However, focusing at 10x using liveview is giving perfect focus.

I've tested considerably using a tripod and a cable release to eliminate any blur caused by camera shake but the problem remains as it is.

Any suggestions ...
