Software & Accessories / Wacom tablets for photoediting.
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:14:33 AM »
Hello dear CR's,

I wanted to ask you if one of you might help me out with my dilemma. I just got a nice new Wacom tablet (used, 5L) and have been playing around with it for a couple of days.
My problem is this, since I'm new to the device I'd like your thoughts on best setup for still's editing in CS6 (or any PS version for that matter), maybe even share your prefs files?
I can't find any pre-made prefs files that would make a good starting point for a PS setup.
Main questions would be:
1. Opacity or Size for pen pressure?
2. Pen buttons, CMD or mouseclicks or brushsize?
3. ExpressKeys, how ado you have them mapped?

I understand everyone's probably setup different for their own workflow, I'd just like to get a starting point to see what would work for me.

Lighting / Elinchroms and High Speed Sync
« on: March 26, 2013, 04:32:04 AM »
Hello all,

Since googling seems not to turn up any understandable results I decided to ask if any one here who could shed some light on the issue (pun intended. :))

I have been narrowing my options down to getting either the 500BRXi kit (500/500w) or the Ranger Quadra RX setup. However, they all say they can do flash durations down to 1/6000th of a second (give or take) but flash sync speed is only 1/250th of a second.
Speedlites can do HSS easily, no problem, they emit several pulses as the shutter traverses across the sensor to light the whole thing. Fine and dandy, but apprently the Elinchrom's cannot do this.
I was thinking though, if I set the camera to 1/2000th of a second shutter speed, but the Elinchroms to output flash over 1/1000th of a second, shouldn't that cover the whole sensor and then some?

Sports / CaniCross and Sleddog Finnish Championships
« on: October 02, 2012, 05:26:15 AM »
Went out shooting the CaniCross and Sleddog championships last weekend. After a bit of wondering around I found a spot that not only allowed me to get some cool shots but added a nice reflection to them as well. (Some other shots thrown in for good measure. )  ;D

Don't know if this qualifies as a real sport but there was this really fun event in Helsinki on the weekend so I thought I'd show you a few shots.  ;) At least there was some seriously demented vehicles rolling down the hill, some had more success than others.  ;D

Portrait / Helsinki Samba Carnival

No place really seemed to fit this, so I put it here in the Portraits section. That's what they basically are...
Gear used. Canon 7D and the magical 70-200 f/2.8L MkII.
The shots are pretty much straight off the camera. It was quite a challenging lighting situation. Bright sunlight with very harsh shadows.

There are more on my flickr-stream if you want to check it out.

Let me know what you think:

EOS Bodies / Best Canon body for permanent IR conversion?
« on: May 18, 2012, 05:47:07 AM »
Hi all,

I've found bits and pieces of information, but all very scattered. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I would need to find out which Canon EOS body lends it self for IR conversion in the best possible way?
I'm now talking about the conversion that would be done by one of the service centers, i.e. permanent.
I've read that some sensors/implementations yield better end results, but nothing conclusive found so far. Anyone have a more definite take on this subject?

Thanks in advance!

Abstract / Not quite abstract but heavily 'shopped.

Just wanted to show this one. I had a picture of the kid running around, up a hill, but the shot was very cluttered with people and trees etc etc.... Then I had another shot of a cliff I took laying flat down. So I tried to combine the two shots in Photoshop. Taking the kid out of the original one and placing him on the bare cliff shot.
It seemed to work nicely, and I was lucky that the sharp bits were all in the same distance. But I really like the odd scale it has. Looks like the cliff is enormous, it isn't really. :)
Tell me what you think, did it work?  :D

Not sure this qualifies as a 'landscape' per se, but I think it turned out well enough to show here. :) Everyone is invited to post images with snow in them.  ;) Let's make this the photochallenge for the week.
