I was happy to see that Pocketwizard has finally released a firmware update (Beta) to make the Pocketwizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 for Canon fully compatible with my 1DX (as well as the 6D and 70D). (see www.pocketwizard.com left side of the page).  I'm planning to download the firmware updates and give them a try later this week.

In the meantime, I am wondering if anyone has already downloaded and tested the firmware update with the 1DX?
If so:
1. Do you get full compatibility with the AC3 controller as well?
2. What's the fastest Hypersync shutter speed you have been able to obtain?
3. Any problems identified?

I look forward to hearing from the community and to trying it out myself.

EOS Bodies / 1DX - Ethernet, USB 3.0 or 2.0 for transfer?
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:21:04 AM »
My 1DX has shipped and I'll have it by mid-week, along with a Lexar 1000X 32GB UDMA 7 CF card. I have not yet ordered the Lexar USB 3.0 card reader because: a) I'm expecting to be able to use the Ethernet port to move photos to my Windows 7 Home Premium equipped PC; b) using a USB 3.0 reader would require me to add a USB 3.0 card to my computer (yes, it's a few years old, and not a big deal but an extra step); and c) I still have a perfectly good USB 2.0 Firewire equipped card reader that I've been using with my SanDisk 32 GB (90 MB/sec) card.

So, for those lucky few (specifically thinking of Neuro, et. al.) who have received their cameras and been playing with them for the last week or so, can you weigh in on whether you have been able to make use of the Ethernet transfer capabilities and any hiccups associated therewith?  Seems to require the use of the Canon Eos Utility software, rather than direct import into Lightroom, as I've done in the past. Haven't used the Eos Utility, so I'm wondering how that affects the workflow.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences and recommendations!

EOS Bodies / Amazon shipping 1DX yet? (status?)
« on: July 06, 2012, 05:09:34 PM »
Has anyone received a 1DX shipped from Amazon yet or received a shipping notice?
If so, please post the date and time you ordered and when your camera shipped and/or was received.

Maybe it was a mistake, but I waited and pre-ordered from Amazon because I missed the first several hours of the B&H pre-order opportunity and figured I would be way back on the list. Seeing that Amazon usually ships within a day or two of B&H for cameras like the 5D Mark III launch, I decided to try to get at the front of the Amazon pre-order list. I was able to pre-order within an hour or two of when it was possible on Amazon, but they are a black hole when it comes to information about new products that are not widely available.

I know B&H has shipped a small number wih more shipping today and early next week. Hoping to get some similar intelligence about what Amazon is doing (because their own customer service people don't know).

So, if you ordered from Amazon, post what you know!  My order briefly changed from "not yet shipped" to "shipping soon," stayed that way for about 18 hours, and then changed back to, "not yet shipped." Gotta love it.
