EOS Bodies - For Stills / Refurb cycles
« on: December 05, 2014, 03:00:27 PM »
Does anyone here have any knowledge, memory or experience with on the average just how long it usually takes for a Canon DSLR body to start showing up on the Canon Store refurbished list?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Arca Swiss compatible camera plate for Rebel SL1
« on: December 03, 2014, 09:24:49 PM »
I am aware that there are currently no dedicated A/S camera or L plates available for the Rebel SL1/100D. So my question is, has anyone found a good universal plate? I'd especially want one with a hand strap slot.

My current kit has found me with the widest FL of 24 and I have been mulling over the 16-35 f/4 L IS. I have owned both the 17-40 and 2.8 16-35. Also a Zeiss 18 3.5.

I'd like to hear from those who own/owned/rented this supposedly super sharp in the center, sharp in the corners lens.

Lenses / Anyone here been to Punta Cana?

Yes, yet another travel light but get all my potential focal lengths and apertures which I might want thread.

I will be at an all inclusive but will venture out a few times. (Probably use the 40 for those trips)This is strictly for holiday with a lot of drinking/sun/family/water laziness etc.

I'm taking a 5D3 and an S95, but haven't made up my mind on lenses. I am thinking small hotel safe, light packing, focal length needs, my styles. Hate this. lol,  I'll be packing in an Incase sling fwiw.

Here are my two ideas for a small bag:

1. Heavier-   5D3+ Sigma 24-105, Sigma 35 1.4, 40 pancake
I'd have a walk around for day, prime for low light and a tiny semi normal lens (discreet and light) for excursions.

2. Lighter-    5D3 + 40 Pancake and 100L Macro
Primes aren't as versatile but these are super light lenses as most here know. I'd lose my UWA but I like the 40's perspective and colors. We all know how awesome the 100L is for flowers and family.

Anyone who has been to Bavaro beach? What did you find you used the most?

Now will the Canon Price Watch Notify system work with a Canon site glitch? Crazy good price.

Lenses / Soon to be MP-E 65 owner has a couple questions
« on: February 24, 2014, 11:38:44 AM »
I'd like to hear opinions on using a protective Clear filter, such as an B+W 58mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter.

I'm not looking for the Pro filter/Anti Filter Lobbyists to chime in but the Macro shooing 'Your front element is dangerously close to stuff' group.

Then there's the hood. I have heard it's good for 'possibly' cutting down flare from the MT-24 EX. ???

I use filters on bushwhacking lenses, on my Macro 100 and in inclement weather. FWIW

Software & Accessories / Hand Strap

Curious to see if this works better than the flawed design of my E-2 strap from Canon. Not too expensive either.

Lighting / How would one go about....Macro wireless slave speedlites
« on: January 31, 2014, 08:32:25 AM »
How could I possibly, and I acknowledge that I may not be able to, build a wireless setup such as the example in the RRS banner below, yet on the cheap?Well, Cheap is relative and great Macro flash setups are never cheap unless you want them to be MacGuyver-esque! And I want wireless and very clean. I'm looking for under $1k

I would think my starting point would be a 600 and a pair of 270's plus hardware. Am I correct?

Lenses / Lens Plate question
« on: January 18, 2014, 02:56:18 PM »
I'm debating between the RRS L84, Wimberley P20 and the Kirk LP-41 for my new 70-200 2.8L IS2.

Any great reasons why I should pick one over the other? When not mounted on the ball head I will be using a RS-7 strap. I'm not certain that the P20 has a hole for the FR-3 on the strap. It looks like the other two do have threaded holes.

Thanks in advance

Lenses / Concerning TS-E 45 & 90 requested updates
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:12:22 PM »
I do not own either of these lenses but a Canon Tilt Shift is in my wishlist  following an MP-E 65.

I frequently read about the 45 and 90 TS lenses needing a refresh. However any of the reputable reviews out there (Bryan, Roger etc) remark how outstanding the build, optics and sharpness are. True these are some of the oldest lenses in the Canon current production lineup, but is age alone enough reason to desire a refresh AND the price bump that surely will come along with it?

I'd like to hear from those who have used them/own them about what they would like to see changed.
