EOS Bodies - For Stills / Chuck Westfall Interview with DPReview
« on: February 06, 2015, 11:35:44 AM »
Chuck Westfall said in an interview with DPReview that the new 5Ds(R) is gonna have the noise performance of the 7DII, which was kind of expected, BUT also the DR of the 5DIII... Huge bummer IMHO.  :-X

PowerShot / G7X samples
« on: September 30, 2014, 10:44:25 AM »
Gordon Laing has posted some G7X samples over at cameralabs, I don't know if anybody posted them here before, but just for the sake of it ;)

The left corners look pretty awful to me, if it is true what I'm seeing there, my fear that Canon didn't design a great lens for an otherwise great camera came true... *sigh*

Lenses / New crop standard zoom?
« on: September 11, 2014, 11:34:42 AM »
It would make very much sense for Canon to introduce a fast standard zoom with the 7DII, something like an EF-S 15-60mm f/2.8 IS USM with weathersealing. The 17-55 is nice optically, but it is not dust- or water-resistant and does not go down to a crucial 24mm equivalent. Any rumors about that? I'd buy that lens in a heartbeat for ~1000$...  ::)

Third Party Manufacturers / Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 OS HSM Sport announced

Well, here it is:
I believe this will be a better option than the Tamron optically, maybe I'll buy one for myself  ::)

Lenses / Anyone want to buy the 24-70/4?
« on: September 02, 2014, 05:12:15 AM »
It is at a sensational pricepoint at Adorama, with rebate you get it for 750$!!! That lens with a 6D and a 70-300L, which is also 150$ off! is a great travel kit!  :D

Software & Accessories / Anyone with f-stop ICU Large Pro??
« on: August 30, 2014, 12:13:27 PM »
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the f-stop Loka UL backpack and need an ICU for it. The Large Pro looks suitable for what I want to pack (7D, 12-24, 24-70, 70-300 + tripod collar, 90, some small accessories). Anyone using that model? How much and what do you fit into it? Thanks for any help!  :D

Photography Technique / Back-button focus?
« on: August 29, 2014, 06:01:15 AM »
I watched a video about back-button focus recently. Seems great... Are there any negatives whilst using it, e.g. not locking focus properly on near still subjects? Are you using BBF? Thanks for any input! :)

Software & Accessories / Problem with Canon Tripod Mount C (70-300L)
« on: August 29, 2014, 05:57:11 AM »
Well, I bought the tripod collar for my 70-300L and after 1 week of use the velcro inside chafed itself, which led to not being able to turn the lens around, because that material is so sticky. I sent it to Canon and they sent me a new one, same problem again.  >:( So, am I doing something wrong or have you had the same experience? Thanks for any input! :)

Photography Technique / Tripod/camouflage for birds/wildlife?
« on: August 29, 2014, 04:33:59 AM »
Ok, my recent vacation to southern England has showed me how much fun I have shooting birds, so I want to get more deeply into it. I think my camera and lens (7D+70-300L) are sufficient for my needs right now. My question is about accessories.
Do you use a tripod/monopod/shoot handheld and why do you do that?
In case of tripod/monopod which pod/head combo are you using?
Are you using any sort of camouflage?
If yes, what type, a blind, a throwover or something like a ghillie suit?
I have a Leica Ultravid 8x32, is that sufficient for my needs in the field?
Questions about questions, but I appreciate every answer and am looking forward to the insights in your technique!   :D Thanks!

Photography Technique / Printing on A2/A3 - help needed!
« on: July 15, 2014, 08:37:37 AM »
Hey all!
I'm thinking about having some of my pictures printed. I will print them min. A3 and max. A2. My question is, to what do I set ppi and res and file size when exporting out of Lightroom to achieve the best results?  :)
Thanks!  :D

EOS Bodies / Unknown lenses with Canon Explorers
« on: July 12, 2014, 10:22:31 AM »
I recently checked the kitbags of the Canon Ambassadors and Explorers and found that
a) Quentin Caffier is using a EF 24-70/2.8 L IS USM: and
b) Andrey Golovanov and Sergey Kivrin use a EF-S 17-35/2.8 IS USM on their 1D series cameras  :o :
Do you think these are typos or real hints for new lenses?  :)

Third Party Manufacturers / Experience with Sony RX100 M3 and A7
« on: July 12, 2014, 05:21:52 AM »
I went to a store yesterday and tried out the Sony RX100 M3 and the A7. I had very high expectations, but the cameras did not live up to them. I found them both to be too aggressively sharpened and noise-reduced in JPEG mode, which lead to immense artefacts, starting at ISO320 with the RX100 M3. I also hated the EVF, when you panned, the picture was only one blur... 1 minute through this VF and you get a headache. With the A7 the artefacts started to appear later, but they appeared; I did also not like the layout and the menu. The salesman and I searched for a minute to find the language settings... I found the dial on the back to be not good to turn and the C1 and Fn button to be not good to reach. Of course, there were positive things, but I only listed the negative ones.
Have you got similar experiences with these cameras?  :)
