Video & Movie / 5D mkIII vs A7s
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:44:12 PM »
I just got my A7s which was a hard decision after only ever shooting Canon. But the very few tests I've done are pretty amazing between the two cameras. I hope Canon makes me regret buying the A7s soon! Here are my first few tests.

1. A7s vs 5D mkIII: Basic Tests

2. A7s vs 5D mkIII Slo-mo

3. A7s First test: just playing around and getting to know the camera

Video & Movie / My latest wedding video =D Opinions welcomed
« on: September 02, 2014, 08:29:11 PM »
Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted my work here. Just wanted to share my latest wedding video with you and see what some of you thought. This was shot on 2x 5D mkIIIs for most of the day, but for ceremony I use 2x 60Ds and 1x 7D on tripods for the extra reach. All my cameras are running Magic Lantern. Thanks for watching.

Video & Movie / Yosemite - 5D mkIII w/ Magic Lanter Raw
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:57:31 AM »
I haven't posted any videos here for a while so I thought I'd share my latest.

I shot the entire video in ML Raw except for the areal footage which was shot on a GoPro 3 Black. I made the music as well. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think! (I know there is some jiggle in parts of the areal footage, my props were not balanced at the time of shooting)

Here are a few photos from house I just shot. I'm still learning and respect your opinions if you have constructive criticism to share. Here is the full post on my RE blog:

EOS Bodies / Will Canon release a Pocket BMCC competitor?
« on: April 08, 2013, 11:17:23 PM »
I think it's a amazing that Black Magic released such a camera and I have been looking to upgrade to something that shoots raw for my real estate work. The sensor is s16, but I'm sure I could find an affordable lens to get wide enough. This really sounds perfect for my RE work. I would be happy to pay Canon more for a competitor maybe even with a slightly larger sensor. Body size is not an issue to me for the most part. It's just the specs I want. And SD Cards! Affordable media. Any thoughts on Canon?

5D MK III Sample Images / Foggy Night 5D3 and 50mm 1.8 II
« on: March 13, 2013, 04:31:49 PM »
Check it out! This is raw --> converted to jpg --> downsized to 3MP. No editing in the shot. Let me know what you think.

I got home after a wedding and it was super foggy. This is the shot I got of a light shinning off my house through the fog last night at 11pm.

I am currently using my 5D mkIII for all my video work, and I love it. But, I want better images. I love DSLRs for my weddings and they treat me well, but for things where I need only a single camera and have more time to figure out and setup my shots, I need something sharper, some more DR, and something more gradable. Wondering how much the RAW will benefit me from the BMCC vs the ease of use of the C100.

The issue is more with my Real Estate Listing video when I have many shots where I will be needing to shoot interiors but still want to see out the window to the ocean.

BMCC Pros:
RAW - More DR
2.5K - Downgrade to HD for a nicer HD image

C100 Pros
Fewer Components needed - Don't need extra battery pack etc..
Smaller file sizes and Cheaper Media
Much Better Ergonomics

I like everything about the C100 better than the BMCC, but, the BMCC can shoot raw. Will I notice the extra stop of DR when I am pulling down the highlights and bringing up the shadows for the high DR shots? (shooting interiors looking out a window)

I imagine the price of the two cameras would pretty much even out when you consider the cost of SSD drives, extra batteries for BMCC, and more hard drive space on the computer.

What do you think? worth the extra stop of DR and RAW Codec?

Video & Movie / Independent Film: Compost - 5D mkIII
« on: February 22, 2013, 12:47:07 PM »

I learned the reason, yesterday, why a pile mulch begins to "steam" after sitting a few days. It's the process of becoming compost =-) so since I've produced the video "Mulch" I had no choice but to produce a new video called "Compost" which is simply focusing on the vapor rising from the compost as bacteria slowly converts it to a substance that is great for spreading on your flowers =-)

Original Mulch Video:

Deputy Shooting Leucadia, Encinitas, San Diego, California

I just walked outside of my house and notice a lot of commotion on the freeway nearby and  I would say about 20 cop cars passed by in the period of 3 minutes. Apparently 2 deputies were shot and swat team was called in. This is the footage I got.

5D MK III Sample Images / Single raw real estate photos
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:56:46 PM »
This was a cheaper job I did and instead of the standard 5 shot bracket fused together with LR/Enfuse, these just single raw shots edited in LR. Let me know what you think =-)

Video & Movie / Marriage Proposal Video
« on: December 29, 2012, 07:05:44 PM »
This was a beautiful night to shoot a proposal at Sea Port Village in San Diego CA. Check it out and let me know what you think. There were a lot of things I would change and would have done differently while shooting, but there is very little time to plan for something like this, especially since we kept getting moved around by the security guard which messed up the whole original plan! Anyway check it out! I did record this music as well.
