Lenses / Just bought a 17-40mm F4 L
« on: April 29, 2013, 03:50:15 AM »
What are some things that I should check out to be sure that everything is working as should?
What are good ways the clean the focus and zoom dials(has like a white residue stuff maybe rain/sweat)
Seems to be good to me. Don't notice any scratches or cracks
Asking price was $550, talked him down to $460.
I don't really shoot wide so I wasn't really looking to purchase this lens(really wanted something with IS ie.24-105) but I like to see how good of a deal I can get. Sometimes, I get deals too good to pass up lol.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Good, well priced monitor?
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:18:15 AM »
What is a good, well priced(less than $800 the cheaper the better. Just no trash) monitor that I can purchase?
I am using the 5d3 and would like it to have an HDMI input(with 720P playback while recording) as well as the ability to see different crop modes(2.35:1 needed), focus peaking wouldn't hurt also. If possible(not a deal breaker), would like it to be able to be mounted to the hotshoe.
Any ideas? What are you guys using?

EOS Bodies - For Video / 5d3 2.35:1 crop
« on: May 17, 2012, 03:32:51 AM »
Im looking to create a few videos with the 5d3. My question is, when Im in Adobe Premiere I would like it to have the crop with the black bars on top and bottom(2.35:1 crop) To get this crop, I must export with width=1440 and height=1080. When this is done, part of the video gets chopped off. My question is, is there any way in the 5d3 while recording video to set this standard so I can get the correct shot? I notice that while recording video on the 5d3 there is black bars on the top and bottom. is there a way to show what these black bars would like like with the 2.35:1 crop IN camera instead of just guessing how wide to record?

Lenses / kit 24-105L Price
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:54:05 PM »
Whats a good purchase price for the kit lens that comes with the 5d3?
I see many can be purchased for about $800. What would be a price that everyone here would believe it to be a MUST BUY?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5d3 Picture styles
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:18:39 AM »
Is there anyway to seperate the 5d3 picture styles?
If I were to use neutral with sharpness turned down while shooting video, is it poossible that once I switch back to images that the neutral style can have different settings?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5d3 questions and help thread
« on: April 23, 2012, 01:33:13 AM »
Ok so I keep getting questions about this new sophisticated camera that I have here. Only thing is, I didn't want to start an entire thread each time. So here's a topic that everyone can ask questions in regards to the usage of this camera and hopefully we can get some help to those in need(like myself)
I'll start... :-)
I upgraded from a T3i so things seem quite different on this cam.
1. When I had the t3i, I'd be able to click the 'q' button(in manual mode) and the menu would pop it. I could then go through the menu items and change and select, then change each individual one. When I click 'q' on this 5d3, the menu pops up, but only allows me to select the "Auto Lighting Optimizer", "card record location", and "record quality". But by clicking the info button theres more settings displayed on the screen, I just cant change them with the joystick. Is there anyway to be able to allow me to select the other options and chamge them(ie AWB, Picture style, AF) Mind you, this is when shooting in live view mode... (I hope my question isn't hard to understand. )
2. On the T3i, video mode had its seperate location on the mode dial. So when I wanted to record video, I'd change the mode dial to video and all of my previously used settings were there. Well here, I would go video mode in manual, but when doing so, it would still have my picture settings. Anyway to set it up so that in manual mode while on pictures it has one set of settings, but when I flip the switch to video, my video settings come into play, or must I change the settings everytime I switch modes?
PS. Im currently still reading the manual. This is the first manual I've ever actually read in my life lol.

Software & Accessories / Batteries....
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:24:14 PM »
I''ve heard that there was an online retailer on amazon selling fake batteries for the 5d3. Well, theres someone selling the batteries for an ok price in my city on craigslist. They are brand new in unopened packages. With that said, how can I verify their authenticity?

EOS Bodies / Anyone recieved damaged 5d3 bodies?
« on: April 20, 2012, 03:31:32 PM »
Has anyone here ordered the 5d3 online and recieved a body with any kind of damage? Im just curious to know. If so, who did you order from, and what was damaged?
Im kind of new at this photography thing and don't want to really hold onto a cam that might have issues that I may only find out about later.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / How do I set spot AF only on 5d3?
« on: April 18, 2012, 04:47:11 PM »
Im curious as to how I use spot AF on the 5d3? I went to the menu and took the check mark off everything but 'spot AF' and the one next to it. But for some reason the one next to it I can't uncheck. So when I go to select an AF point when shooting, instead of selecting a small dot, Im only allowed to select one of the squares.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Ordered the 5d3
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:08:16 PM »
Finally purchased this 3500 dollar camera from Adorama friday. Says it will ship on monday and I should receive it by Thursday at the latest. Hopefully it's a purchase that I won't regret. I dont get paid for photography but I've found relief in it. Maybe one day I can get paid from another passion of mine. Everyone got the 'soft' issues worked out right? Hopefully I have no issues with mine
