Software & Accessories / Hoya CPL filter for 17-40 F4

Hi guys,

I just bought a second hand 17-40 F4 lens that came with a Hoya CPL filter but the seller didn't tell me which CPL filter it is. I checked the filter but it only says PL CIR. Is there a way to check if its version?

Edit: Been doing some google-ing and it seems all Hoya Filters says "Japan" or "Made in Japan"; however mine only says "HOYA 77mm PL-CIR". So it's fake?

Technical Support / 550D LCD acting weird

My 550D LCD is acting weird lately. Whenever i turn on the camera, the LCD won't come on. I have to press the menu button or DISP button or play button or trash button in order or it to come on. If the camera goes to sleep mode, I tried waking up with pressing half of the shutter button but the LCD won't come on unless i press the buttons i mentioned.

I am not covering the LCD senor.

Is it broken?

Hi guys,

I am learning to take time lapse pictures. There's one thing that i find it difficult to do.

Let's say I'm trying to do landscape from sun raise. How should i set my shutter speed and aperture? If I set the shutter speed to slow and aperture low then i can take clear pictures when it's dark but when the sun raise then it will be too bright. The setting for the transaction is so hard!

Can someone please tell me what to do?

Edit: How long should i take each photos for landscape? I am testing with 10 seconds. I do not want to have 'blip' when i make the video.

Has anyone bought a fake (wrong class label) SD card? I have a 8GB class 4 SanDisk card and 16GB class 4 SanDisk Ultra that i think is fake. Whenever i try to record with my 550D, it would say "Video Recording Has Been Stopped Automatically" which i think it's normal because it's a fake SD card but when i put it in my Sony TX10 and it would record without any problem. What's the reason behind this? Is it because DSLR is more picky?

I used a software call AJA System Test to test all my SD cards and here is the result.

Blue Class 2 2GB (SanDisk) Write: 4.4, Read: 16.5 (My 550D would record around 12 mins of 1080p until it stops because it's full)
Blue Class 4 8GB (SanDisk): Write: 3.2, Read: 15.6 (My 550D would say "Video Recording Has Been Stopped Automatically"
Black Class 4 8GB (Sony): Write: 6.8, Read: 17.9 (My 550D would record around 12 mins of 1080p and stops)
Grey Class 4 16GB (SanDisk Ultra): Write: 3.3, Read: 14.8 (My 550D would try to record but there would be a bar on the left hand top corner (i think it's buffering) then it would say "Video Recording Has Been Stopped Automatically". It would record 13 seconds of video.

Hello everyone,

I am a beginner that is learning new things every time i carry out my 550D.

I am currently learning to take time lapse photos and downloaded magic lantern. There don't seem to have a very good guide with ML. Please bare with my stupid questions.

1) How do i change the time setting in the intervalometer? It's default at 2 seconds and i can't figure out how to change it.

2) The ML wiki states "To make a timelapse without increasing shutter count, do not use the intervalometer; instead, set FPS override to a very low value (for example, 3fps) and start recording." How do I set it? I can't find the FPS setting.

3) The ML wiki states "When using the intervalometer in LiveView with "noisy" mode, your shutter will wear twice as fast than outside LiveView." What is noisy mode? I don't want my camera to 'die' too soon.

Hello,

I just bought the Kenko extension tube DG. I am not sure if it's working properly or not. I test it on 550D with 24-105. I find it hard to auto focus with 12 and 20mm (tube). It will focus on a particular distance and not focus with other distance. I tried MF and it will only focus on a particular distance. I can't take normal pictures when the tubes is/are attached.

I tried stacking 12 and 20mm tube and it focus with particular distance. When i tried the 36mm; it can't AF/MF. I tried stacking all three but can't AF and MF.

Then i tried it with with my 10-22 lens and it can't AF/MF with any of the tubes but DG is suppose to be compatible with EF-S lenses.

Am i not using it correctly or the tubes aren't working?

I am new to this awesome site. Please be easy on me. I've been searching a shutter actuations software for Mac. I see that there's one for 500D but not for 550D. Any tips?
