Animal Kingdom / Any regrets for leaving camera at home?

Today I was just heading to the shops for something and spotted this out of the corner of my eye. Needless to say when you need it you just don't have your camera, luckily I had the cell phone to catch a quick pic before he headed off. Los Angeles is always full of surprises. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

Lenses / Canon 24-70mmL II v Canon 50mmL 1.2

Hi all,

I have recently sold a a 300mm L 2.8 IS and have some money burning a hole in my pocket. I have recently bought a Canon16-35L II with some of the proceeds and am now trying to make my mind up between the 24-70 and the 50L 1.2 Canon as a walk around lens with occasional use for portrait I have a 70-200L 2.8 II and a Macro 100L 2.8 IS, I use the lens on a 5D mkIII.

I have tried the 50L on the 5D III and it is fast and super sharp, I have read a lot of negative comments about this lens but my experience was very positive. I had a very short time with a 24-70 II at B&H today and it was a lovely lens. I am hoping that someone who has experience with both could give me the benefit of their experience so that I can make a decision.

Technical Support / Lost photo's on frozen and reset I Pad

Hope someone can help.

A friend recently visited the Galapagos Islands and loaded all his photo's onto an Ipad 2 and deleted his photos off from the SD cards. When he arrived home his Ipad froze and it was taken to an apple shop and they re-set it and he has now lost all the photo's. Is there any way he can retrieve his photo's from the Ipad or from the SD cards. The apple shop were not sympathetic and would not offer any help.

EOS Bodies / 5d mkiii and no AF at F8

I have read a review on Photo net of the 5d mk 3. In it it was said that there is "no AF at F8 as was the experience with the 1DX. As the review was dated 25th July, I am somewhat confused, I have a mk 3 and I don't seem to have a problem. Does anyone else know if this is right, just curious.

Lenses / Lens to take to Kruger National Park South Africa

I may have the opportunity to visit Kruger this August and will take my 5d mkiii and 50d. With the camera's i'll take a 300mm 2.8L 70-200 2.8 mkii L and 24-105L with 1.4 and 2x extenders. Does anyone have any advice on what other lens I should pack/rent/buy.
I have never been on Safari so all advice will be helpful on lens or any other equipment needed.

Software & Accessories / Lightroom 4 -v- Capture One

I have recently upgraded to Lightroom 4 and to be honest am still a bit disappointed with its slow response to commands. A friend introduced me to Capture One this past weekend and on first sight it seems very good in particular with color and ease of operation. Has anyone else used both and if so whats your experience please and to jump ship and change is yet another few hundred $, thanks.

5D MK III Sample Images / Is the IQ from the 5d3 really as bad as everyone is saying?

I have heard lots said about the 5d3, the IQ, soft focus ect ect ect. I have just been playing around, having come from a 50d the step is a large one, one that will take some time to get to grips with. I say this because even with my limited knowledge and experience I am finding it a delight. With this in mind I pushed it a little yesterday with a 70-200L 2.8 mkii and a 2x to try and take some photos of birds in the garden. I have done some minor adjustments on LR4 and cropped it 100%, but here it is, comments please??

P.S. The silent shutter whilst not completely silent did not spook the birds, so big thumbs up for that.

Lenses / Whats a good walk around lens to put on a new 5d Mk iii

I am going to buy a new 5d mkiii and am uncertain about the kit lens, its 10 years old ish and was wondering about getting the new 24-70 but at 28oz its quite heavy without IS so I am stuck. I have a 70 to 200 mkii IS and a 100 macro IS so am looking to supplement what I have. Second question is, I am looking for a good wide angle, 16-35mm or 14mm. Any and all suggestions would help thanks
