Third Party Manufacturers / Samsung NX400 with NX1 BSI sensor

Smaller body NX400 with the NX1 BSI sensor, around $900 with kit lens.  If true as rumored, that will be my next camera purchase to supplement my 5D III, seeing how nothing similar is coming forth from Canon  :'(

Since installing Magic Lantern 1.2.3 on 5D III, I have noticed that my files shot at 0 EV exposure comp are wrongly tagged as either +1/3 EV (seen in Digital Photo Professional) or "+1 Step" (in Windows Explorer window, flickr). 

Files shot with +1/3 EV are wrongly tagged as +1/2 EV (DPP) and "+0.5 Step" in Windows explorer and +1 EV in flickr.  A files shot with +2/3 EV actually showed as nonsense under flickr EXIF,  "-1/2 EV"

Has anyone noticed similar problems since installing Magic Lantern 1.2.3. on 5D III?  Any way to fix this or could this possibly be some other issue, although the only change has been Magic Lantern?

Having purchased and returned the Sony A7R 36 MP high-MP monster, I was hoping for a Sony camera with same sensor but better/faster AF similar to Sony A6000, but this A7S with 12.2 MP threw me for a loop from the left field.  With such huge pixel size, it *should* have unheard-of dynamic range at high ISO, something even D800/A7R cannot manage at high ISO.  With -4.0 EV AF, it should have fabulous AF in low light, and if color fidelity and IQ benefit from large pixels, this camera could be THE walk-around, low-light monster we have never seen before.  Although this camera should appeal to videographers, it could seduce photographers who shoot low-light events. 

Hate to say it, but Sony does seem to be towering over Canikon when it comes to imagination, innovation, and appetizing cameras  :'(

Anybody using the Sony/Zeiss FE 55mm lens yet? 

DXO testing shows results very close to the Otus 55 mm, in fact second best for any lens behind Otus and the best audiofocus lens DXO has every tested.  I should receive one soon along with A7R; I just hope all the ergonomic issues, Sony-specific software/hardware issues don't make me regret buying that combo to use alongside my 5D III.

Sony A7/R and lens sales must not be great, as Sony started a "Bundle Sale," with $200 off body+one lens and $650 off body+one lens+F60M flash.  Be aware, the F60M flash is riddled with overheating problems which Sony will not own up to, but $99 for a $600 flash may be worth it for those not needing rapid firing or willing to repair it on their own (supposedly $100 for repair at http://www.sp-ts.com/).

I can't believe it, but DxO FilmPack 3 is offered for free.  I just downloaded it, activated it, and yes it's free and works.  It's very similar to Nik ColorEfex Pro which I also have.


I just received a newsletter about Rogue's "Safari" flash-booster.  Looks great and appears better built than the "Better Beamer," but it is only meant for pop-up flashes.  I have already e-mailed Rogue to request a version for regular flashes and would like to encourage others to request the same.  TIA.


I have come to the conclusion that I simply am not motivated enough to carry traditional light-stands when I'm asked to "take some photos" as a favor to acquaintances at things like baby birthdays, social gatherings, etc. 

I have some traditional "portable" softboxes and even a lumodi beauty dish, but unless it's a paid gig, I'm simply not motivated enough for the hassle.  As a compromise, I have bought some Rogue Flashbenders/diffusers, which are working out great for ultra-portable 2-light setup.  However, light stands are still a problem.  I do have some Manfrotto Nano clones and some slightly bigger ones, but what are some out-of-box alternatives for portable light stands that just needs to support a speedlite with Flashbender?  I am looking at some microphone stands, maybe even some carbon tripods (have some), which are not that small actually.

My copy of 24-70 f/2.8 II needs -9 at wide end and 0 at tele end on my 5D III.  My Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II needs 0 at either end, and my 100L also needs 0.  Some of my fast primes including 35L, 50L, 85L II range between -1 and -3. 

A brand new Canon 17-40 f/4L I just borrowed needed -6 at wide and 0 at tele. 

-9 seems a tad too much for a $2100 lens, so I'm just wondering what 24-70 f/2.8 II owners have experienced with AFMA (and 5D III)?  Is it worth sending in the lens to Canon while still under warranty for calibration?

Is my copy of 5D III partly at fault here, as the body seems to need Minus AFMA on lenses, never positive.  The body is out of warranty, but should I send in both the 24-70 II and body to Canon for calibration together (does Canon even calibrate a specific lens+body combo?). 

Any help would be appreciated.
