EOS Bodies - For Stills / Panning with 5D3

I need some advice on panning techniques please:

1. Do I need an image-stabilized lens for panning (I tried panning with the 135/2 with less than desirable success)
2. What would be the appropriate shutter settings compared to the speed of the subject

I used AF servo, Mode 1 and 2 for tangentially moving subjects across the plane, the camera could focus well but I got either motion blur on the subject or not enough blur in the background depending on shutter speed.

Third Party Manufacturers / Choice of compact: OM-D em5 vs Sony RX 100

I am stuck between theese two for my wife, I know they are different in size and target different group but having a good FF DSLR spoiled me. now I need to make a choice for a smaller camera.
The RX looks stunningly good. The OMD, with a Pany 25/1.4 and Oly 45/1.8 is better but by how much? Four x price?

Has anyone compared the IQ and usability of these two? Does the RX100 reach to the high end 4/3?

The OMD is very much more a camera but most of it's customisation will be set once and never changed. EVF? Never had one. LiveView with touch focus on 35 fields! Sounds good and easy. The OMD will be closer to the MarkIII. More artistic options.

I am afraid that the Sony will still have the issues with dust on sensor and into the lens (my first and only P&S Casio died by a sand corn). For family photos it is more than enough. But zoom is not necessary. Video either.

A question about concept practicality on a Mark 3:
I need a focus assist device for video and stills. Which is the way to go? I haven't had either in my hands. The Mark IIi LCD has gained a lot quality over the Mark II. Would live to hear more opinions from experienced hands.

EOS Bodies / Shoot JPEG again with 5D3

Do some of you guys start shooting Jpeg again with the 5D3 - it is slowly the fact with me: the camera is so much fun to use and jpegs are so good especially high iso that I set the m-fn button to change from RaW to Jpeg Hold. Not every shot needs that massive PP and the camera to my eyes has a good jpeg engine.

135/2 is really fun to use with this AF system. I enjoy total peace of mind: no zoom, no thin MF, just frame and shoot... What a relief!

EOS Bodies / Mark III metering

Please someone explain why is the metering under exposing 2/3 or more. Is this a design issue? To get the histogram away from the left corner I need to go +2/3'or more on almost all shots. Not that it disturbs me much but I just wonder. The 40D did not have that.
BTW has someone noticed that when looking into that huge VF you can see the mirror straight under the frame view? There is a lot of camera to be seen through this VF, no wonder the light fall off on the VF would influence the exposure

EOS Bodies / MkIII for Manual Focus Primes?

Would you buy a 5D3 if you are using MF alt primes, handheld?
Just for the colors, noise?, features and built?
I shoot non pro, just for fun, no weddings, no sport, no cars, just life.
I am coming from a 40D, now almost on the trigger for a 5D2 and wonder if someone thinks this is nonsense.

For all those who are still not entirely convinced (like me) new 5D3 users please compare with examples the 5D2 with the 5D3: IQ at RAW, sharpness, colours, VF, LCD usability for MF, usability of AF and higher FPS (RAW), all in all give us your impression why should I pay twice the price...

I'd like to structure the first impressions a bit. You decide what you compare and post either here or start a new topic. I agree this is borderless issue but please stick to hardware testing standards ie as objective as possible.

This decides whether I'll buy the Mk2 or Mk3.
I am not interested in AF, 25K ISO and 3.2" LCD. Any low ISO IQ improvement spotted?

Software & Accessories / TIFF or JPeg for storage

I shoot in RAW almost always, import, store and backup in Aperture and do PP in NIK or PS. The last two do save in TIFF and this multiplies the file size.
Do you convert your PP tiff files back in jpeg for storage or not? Is there a lot of printing info lost, i.e. is it better to print from the tiff than from  jpeg?
I always keep the RAW masters separately, so a second look and PP is possible.

Lenses / How do you correct chromatic aberrations?

Could you please explain how to correct chromatic aberrations in PP! I have never managed to achieve a good correction in Aperture alone. Don't know how to use PS CS5 even if I have it... (perhaps there is a smart way there) , NIK doesn't offer this I think but not sure as quite new to me, and last but not least: DxO Optics Pro 7 for 99USD - until 24th Dec. I've never used it, but how is it integrated into an Aperture based workflow? I think Neuro mentioned he uses it on the PCvsMAC thread. Thanks for Your Effort!
BTW I searched the forum and other sites but couldn't get a straight forward explanation.
Ah, and I can't afford a 1Dx with automatic in-camera correction

On the DxO Pro 7 topic: does anyone use Catapult to integrate it with Aperture and what are your impressions?

Apart from ISO (as in all recent discussions) what else do you think will very high (36 or more)MP sensor put stress on?:
Lens technology ? - how many MP (FF) would augment lens aberrations to an unacceptable level?
Production precision ? - above how many MP would you need focus adjustments in extensi of all existing, and would a  highMP sensor be more prone to optical misalignment
Diffraction ? - where is the sweet spot and can it be pushed around with technology
DR ? How would highMPs affect DR and what is the current electronic workaround to augment this (and give us more detail in shadows)

Please let's not discuss ISO and MB per shot (storage) neither FPS limitations. There are enough other threads.
I'd like to ask you to help me to overcome the fear of 36 MP  or more seriously : Canon seels to steam up lens upgrades - does this mean the existing lines would be less usable for a MegaMP sensor?

Lenses / 70-200 f/2.8 II or f/4 vs. 200/2.8 prime

The hype is building up around the magic 70-200 / 2.8 II with the recent price rebates. From my experience with my 70-200/4 IS most of my shots were made at 200/4...
Now that I converted all my Canon zooms to CZ primes I don't use the 70-200/4 that much on my 40D - why not sell and go for a 200 prime. The 200 f/2 is probably the best Canon EF but not affordable for an amateur (the word "amateur" comes from "amor" - love - so all amateurs love their gear even if they don't earn a living with it)

Has anyone had experience with the "oldish" 200/2.8 - lightweight, 778 USD (not 2074) and STILL 2.8 at 200? Especially as compared to the zooms! Please, don't mention the f/2 as it is a dream of mine and is... dangerous.
Experience as referred to corner sharpness, contrast/micro, focusing, daily use, on an 1.4 / 2 III TC etc.

Wasn't there a rumour about a 200-400/4 coming? Not in the same price range though...
