Pricewatch Deals / $749 24-105mm f/4L IS USM on eBay (BigValueInc)
« on: November 05, 2012, 06:09:44 PM »
I'm not sure what happened to the post on the $750 24-105mm L IS USM, but I bought one and it shipped immediately showing up at my door 2 days after. The seller was BigValueInc and there was some debate as to whether the lenses were really new, whether they were a Canon retailer and if the lens was under USA warranty. They are not a Canon Authorized retailer (there's a PDF if you google it and they're not on it).

The box came and it was a white box with no warranty card though the lens appeared brand new. It came with the lens pouch, the front/end caps and lens hood as you would expect. I emailed them and asked about the white box and missing warranty card and they sent me the reply below. I also did go to Canon's website and started a warranty claim and they show it as under warranty (I canceled the claim before submitting final).

This is there explanation...

Thank you for your email. I am very sorry for any confusion this may have caused. This item was removed from a kit box that included the body of the camera. To sell this item at the price we do, we put the lens in a separate box and sold the item. It is brand new and never been used. This item is covered under US warranty and you can register the item by the Serial number. If you would like to return the item, I can set that up for you as well.

Thank you

Lenses / EF-S 18-135mm IS STM vs EF 28-135mm IS
« on: June 13, 2012, 12:25:57 AM »
I use the Canon EF 28-135mm IS for my "everyday" lens and it's been fine for me. However, I see there's a new EF-S 18-135mm which would give me a wider shot and probably reduce my need for the Tokina ultra wide lens I often have to carry around with me. Any thoughts on this new EF-S lens relative to the older 28-135mm - I'm considering making a switch and would appreciate any input.

A lot of places are showing out of stock for any Canon photo paper and most seem out of Photo Paper Pro Platinum (even B&H is out of 13x19... which I need). Seems it's not just a US issue from what I'm seeing on other sites where people are complaining. Does anyone here know what's going on?

I'm an amateur photographer and understand enough of the basics about colors to use a colorimeter to calibrate my monitor, but I'm not very deep on the subject. I have a Canon PIXMA iP4600 printer. Details at URL below:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_ip_series/pixma_ip4600#Features

I got a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II through a current B&H rebate program which after rebate will cost me $14 or I can sell it on eBay for roughly $200. The only clear advantage I can see is I can print 13x19 inch prints. I don't need 100 year archiving - I print pictures and put them on my wall or give them to family/friends. I would like to print 13x19, but then I went to OfficeMax and printed a 13x19 inch print for $1.50. Now that was a photo taken by someone else and it wasn't a good picture to compare quality. So my question is...

Should I keep the Pro9000 Mark II - will it print better pictures than the iP4600 or OfficeMax?

Thoughts?

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / 430EX II Refresh?
« on: April 04, 2012, 02:45:25 PM »
I was about to buy a 430EX II but it would seem due for an update - last refresh was in June, 4 years ago. Do you guys think we'll see a new one this year? Is it worth holding off a bit?
